Survivor celebrates his 10 year journey with his family

Recommended Posts

I am now a ten year and seven-time lung cancer survivor. I know how lucky to be beating the odds and decided to celebrate my decade of survival by producing a new documentary called "Richard's Rays of Hope" about my journey, and that of my family and loved ones, to create greater awareness and hope for people impacted by lung cancer. “Richard's Rays of Hope” shares my journey and does so in a unique way - my actual chest X-Rays were given to ten family members to use as "canvases" to turn them into brightly colored and joyful artwork. Their process, memories and insights form the emotional core of this powerful video. The finished artwork transforms these discomforting and frightful images into wonderful "rays of hope" for all cancer patients and their caretakers. My hopeful message is lung cancer might not be curable (yet) but it is treatable and wonderfully livable thanks to significant advances in cancer treatments.

Please view and share the trailer for our documentary on You tube-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1C2IUkiJUA.

The finished documentary will be uploaded soon.

Let’s turn a negative into a positive and teach the world hope comes from the outside too.

Thank you, Richard

Thank you, Randy.

First of all, I am sorry for your loss.

I can not imagine.

Secondly, I am not sure I have a secret.

I say that I am alive because of a combination of chemistry, biology, timing and some good luck.

Lung cancer is relentless and I am just hoping for as long a time between re-occurences as possible.

Take care,

Richard

Thank you, Randy for sharing my documentary trailer with FB.

I hope it finds its way to that one person out there that was recently diagnosed

and needs some inspiration form another lung cancer survivor.

And yes, that is my philosophy too about trying to stay alive long enough till the next reatment comes along.

Richard

Hi Katie,

I am very honored to have my story highlighted at the ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago and being a face for lung cancer survivors who are benefiting from Abbott Molecular's diagnostic testing for the ALK gene. My documentary is a labor of love for me and I am thrilled with the response. It has received over 11,000 hits on Facebook and over 3,600 views on You Tube.

Regards,

Richard

Congratulations on  your 12th year as a survivor. I am willing to be a caregiver and was having no idea about from where and how to start. But after watching the video and this post, I am pumped up and have some ideas on it. Thank you.
