    Odd

Katie; I remember feeling exactly the same way after my dad passed away. For the longest time, everything I did, everywhere I went, everyone I saw, there was always something there that reminded me of my dad. There were times when I could swear I saw him on the street or in stores but obviously it was always someone that looked like him. I was just numb & dazed for the longest time, it always amazed me how the rest of the world could just keep going on around me after he died, I'm not sure what I expected to happen but it definitly wasn't that. I was in my own world for the longest time....so weird, so different. As impossible as it seems right now, you do get through it, its tough, but you will get through this, just take 1 day at a time and hang in there. My heart goes out to you....Take care Chris
  2. What a beautiful tribute to your daughter. Such devasting news its just so tragic. I am so sorry for your loss Chris

  5. Actually yes she did have a CT scan, thats what I meant by "he said everything looked good", meaning results, test, reports etc...Thanks for your concern though, it is well taken & appreciated. ********************************************************* AN AFTER THOUGHT: After looking over my original post it almost appears to me like I was "gloating", for lack of a better word. I apologize if that's the way it appears because that was never ever my intent. It's just nice to finally receive some good news after these last few months, especially this month alot of other things happened....I'm sure most of you can relate...Unfortunately life & all its other problems don't bypass you because you've already got this to deal with..Take care & God bless all of you!! Chris
  6. THANK GOD!!!! I just talked to my Mom, she went for a check up with her onc, he said everything looks good, chest sounds clear & she goes back again in a couple of months for a check up.....He did give her something to take for her low energy level thats she's been having lately.....She sounded so good, so relieved on the phone, I just wish I could've been there with her(My other 3 sisters went with her, I leave for holidays Friday so needless to say I'm stuck at work trying to get everything done)...What a big relief, it just felt so good to hear some happiness in her voice again, just like the old days...Thanks so much for all your prayers guys, it sure helped. Well time to go back to work! Chris
  7. Cathy; I am so deeply saddened to hear of the loss of your father. Try and take comfort knowing that he is no longer suffering and in pain. Hold your memories of your father close to your heart and he will always be with you. May you and your family find peace and comfort at this difficult time. Chris
  8. Shelly; I am so very very sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. Like the others, I am also at a loss for words. How I truly HATE this damned disease!!! Please take care Chris

  10. Hi Wenna; I'll be thinking of you & including you in my prayers as well. Hang in there girl, you'll be just fine!!! Take care & most importantly, as hoaky as it sounds, THINK POSITIVE!!! Chris
  11. Maybe try something warm...tea with lemon & honey? Milk might be a little too thick(not quite the word I was looking for but I can't think straight right at this moment), it might aggravate the situation even more.
  12. Thanks guys, one can always use extra prayers...I really do appreciate it very much. Chris
  13. My mom went in today to start her 6th & final round of chemo, thankfully her blood work came back okay & they were able to proceed with day 1 of 3....However, she had never mentioned this to me before, but apparently shes been having some pretty bad pains in her back & down her leg for the last little while. Thankfully she mentioned this to her onc today & he's sending her in for a bone scan on Tuesday the 22nd. I'm just hoping & praying that it hasn't spread & maybe its the fibromialga(sp??) thats causing her pain, the lesser of two evils I guess. Keeping my fingers crossed until then I suppose!!
  14. David P; You don't need a cape to get through anything....You had the cape(and obviously still do) along time ago!!!You are truly an inspiration to everyone...Keep up the hard work & the great fight. You da man David P, you da man!!!! Chris

  16. I WASN'T SURE WHICH CATEGORY TO POST THIS IN, BUT I JUST WANTED TO WISH ALL THE DADS A VERY HAPPY FATHERS DAY WITH MANY MORE HEALTHY & HAPPY ONES TO COME IN THE YEARS AHEAD!!
  17. On the day of my dads funeral when we were all up at the cemetary, a monarch butterfly flew by during the service. Then while we were in the car on the way home, we were stopped at a traffic light, when once again, a butterfly flew by the car that all of us were in(my mom & us 6 kids). The same day, after the service back at my parents house a few people stopped by. We were all out in the backyard when once again, another butterfly flew by. The same thing happened once more on that Saturday, and then a few more times the following Sunday. Needless to say we were all just mesmerized by this, just totally speachless. We truly all believed that it was my dad watching over us all, we joked later that if there was a party, my dad would find it. He always loved parties, and having good times, he was usually the life of the party in some way. Still to this day, it brings my mom & us kids a little comfort everytime we see a butterfly.
  18. If I remember correctly the nurses name that came up with the "Essiac Tea" was Rene Caisse. I do take the tea myself & like you said the ingredients are all pretty much the same. Personally I think the stuff is great, but everyone has their own opinion, some people don't care for the taste.
  19. Natalie; Sorry about that I didn't mean to worry you. I have actually purchased Noni juice & some Essiac Tea for myself and on the literature that comes with the products the company states that they are safe to take while receiving chemo & radiation treatments BUT, I think maybe just to be on the safe side you should probably consult with your moms doctor about it. I've read on a few different sites that it's ok to take antioxidants while receiving treatment, and then I've read the opposite to that on other sites so it's a very mixed opinion, kind of confusing.
  20. I think from what I can remember my moms onc advised against her taking any kind of antioxidant or herbal remedies(ie: essiac tea) until after her treatments were finished. I think they(meaning antioxidants etc.) work against what the chemo & radiation treatments do. Mind you my mom said as soon as she's finished with her treatments she's going to start right up on them.
  21. Hi Lee-Anne When my mom was diagnosed and before she started treatment I know she was quickly losing weight even though she was still eating. We were told that it was the cancer taking up all the nutrients & such in what she was eating. She's very petite to begin with so she really couldn't afford to lose much more. We found that once she started chemo she was able to put some weight back on & hold her own. She only weighs about 107 lbs but she's always been like that. We started her on one of those weight lifting proteins drinks, (Mass 2000 or something like that) and each day she makes up a batch and adds some ensure, ice cream etc., and drinks about 3-4 glasses everyday. Like I said she keeping the weight on so it seems to be working. Hope this helps you.

  23. Hi guys! The following article is in the May issue of "Alive" magazine & is not posted on their website as of yet so I figured I'd just type it in instead of waiting. It's from the clinic of well-known naturopath Jim Chan. Here goes: After 13 years as a naturopathic doctor, Dr. Chan has seen 5000 cancer patients, may of whom are diagnosed as "terminal" cases -- but not for long. When patients first arrive, their medical & personal histories are thoroughly reviewed, including all previous pathology & lab reports. Then they fill out Dr. Chan's own comprehensive personal survey. Additional tests may be conducted for immune function, digestion, endocrine system, level of stress & free radical load. The point of gathering all this data is to get a picture of how healthy a patient is, to find out the body's strong and weak points, and to determine the possible causes of the cancer. "We know 15% of cancers are hereditary or genetic related," says Dr Chan. "The rest are environmental." By environment, he means things a person is exposed to in everyday life, including food, water, chemicals, viruses & electromagnetic radiation. Only after all the data is available for review does Dr. Chan lay out what he feels to be the most effective, individualized treatment plan. Like many naturopaths who work with cancer, he has no objection to orthodox cancer treatments, which may or may not be beneficial in a given case. "We must look at coventional intervention and ask, will it be meaningful or not?" "Surgery, chemo and radiation focus on attack. [Naturopatihic physicians] also devise means to support the cells," he says. So, if patients choose to go the orthodox route, they can also use wholistic approaches to bolster the body's strength and healing abilities. The key is combining treatments to achieve the best possible results. One treatment the Dr. Chan is very excited about involves a special ginseng extract called Careseng, which he calls the "first non-toxic natural cancer treatment that can be considered at par, if not better, in efficacy compared with most chemotherapies." Like regular ginseng, this product contains active compounds called ginsenosides, specifically, high amounts of Rh2 and Rg3, both known for their anti-cancer properties. In animal studies, the supplement inhibited tumour growth, increases survival time, and, in some cases, caused complete tumour regression. Dr. Chan was involved in clinical trials in 1999. In one trial, 40 patients with various cancers, including lung, colon, liver and breast - took Careseng orally for 60 days. Seventy-five per cent of patients experienced tumour inhibiting effects with no side-effects or toxicity. In a second trial involving 15 patients, the intravenous version was effective in 80% of cases - again with no reported drawbacks. More studies are continuing. The treatment has been shown to work in several ways. First, it stops cells from entering the cancerous growth stage. Second, it causes cancer cell death, and third, it can actually reverse drug resistance. "So in cases where chemo doesn't work, we can fix it," says Dr. Chan. For example, if someone becomes resistant to chemo drugs, which is very common in late stage cancer patients, taking Careseng can make the body's cells sensative to treatment again. Today, Dr. Chan uses Careseng with about 80% of his patients, who may also undergo other treatments such as acupuncture, supplementation with vitamins, minerals and herbs, medicinal peata baths(soaking in mineral-rich water) and sauna therapy(using far infrared heat chambers) to help the body detoxify. His advice to cancer patients is to evaluate the risks and benefits of any chosen teatment. "For a doctor, it's difficult because we can never guarantee results. What works for one[patient] won't work for another. We have to be individualized. -end of article-
