  1. Hi All, I saw my oncologist and it seems to me this thing never stops. We have to make decisions based on thier lastest best known knowledge. When I was in the hospital he told me they found that treatment was best for me. He now says that I have three choices. 1. Aggressive: one treatment over two days, every three weeks for four treatments. 2. Take selenium, will give me more information on this within the next two weeks...I think this is a clinic trial, anyone hear of this? 3. nothing. He said there are no statistics to show that stage 1a benefits from treatment. The treatment I would receive is Paclitaxel and Carboplatin. My children would like me to take it but he won't even give me a 10% chance it won't come back. I lost 60% of my right lung, I'm still trying to accept that. My cancer was adenocarcinoma, slow growing, and 2Cm.
  2. I'm seeing my oncologist today but plan on taking the second opinion advice. Will keep you updated as I ask for more input from all of you. Thanks so much. Patt
  3. They said I had adenocarcinoma, removed upper and part of middle lobe on right side, said everything else is clean. It was very early cancer but now they say they want me to take treatment because it has been proved nationally that it reduces the chance of return. Anyone else hear of this? I don't understand. However, my surgeon seems to think that with or w/o treatment it can come back. My operation was on May 24th without incident. I did well and feel fine....at least so far but I don't want to suffer more than I need to. Thanks for the information, help, and prayers, Patt

Tomorrow is my day I just don't know what time I need to be at the hospital yet. I did want to thank all of you who have responded to my post. You have all been so great and I thank you for giving so many things to consider before the big step. I will be back to post when this is behind me and let you know of the happenings. God bless to each of you. Patt

Wow....thanks to all of you for your replies. ok, here I go. I was having trouble swallowing for sometime and my Dr. sent me for a barium swallow but instead of a problem with that they found a tumor. They then sent me for a cat scan, no clear diagnosis. Then off for a pet scan, phone call two days later that said I had a "live mass" ??? Could be a fungus. After that it was a bronchostomy, excuse bad spelling, then was told the piece they biopsied was not malignant. That Dr. then sent me to a surgeon who said he was 95% sure it was cancer. I probably should mention that 25 years ago I had a bad case of double pneumonia that I was given anti-botics for about 6 weeks, I said I won't take anymore I feel fine, they said ok but we can't seem to clear up that right lung. I have mentioned this to each of the Dr.s. Also, they have ruled out a fungus and are saying that a scar would have a much different shape then the tumor. Thanks again to all of you. Please let me know if you still think I need to check with another doctor because my thought was if there is something there it should come out.
  6. Hi All, I seem to post in the wrong places. I'm not real computer savy so please bear with me. I am 66 yrs. old, smoked for 50 years, went for a baruim swallow 6 weeks ago and they found a tumor in my right lung. I've had several tests to date and they have not been able to confirm cancer. However, I did see a surgeon who stated he was 95% sure that it was cancer. I am having my upper right lobe removed on May 24th and of course I am fightned of the unexpected. I have shared the news with my three adult children but I am putting on a brave face for them. I don't see a need for a second opinion because noone is saying cancer and whatever it is I guess the best thing is to get it out of there. I am open to any thoughts, suggestions, ideas, past experiences, or "poor kid." LOL Thanks, Pat
  7. Two months ago I went for a barium swallow and they instead found a tumor on my upper right lung. I have had several tests but so far have not been able to confirm cancer. My last trip was to a surgeon who says he is 95 percent sure it is cancer. On the 24 of this month (may06) I am to have my upper right lobe removed. I have not shared with anyone outside of family and have tried to keep the "stiff upper lip" for them so I have had no one to talk to about this. I have not had a second opinion, I am staying here in my hometown, which is a small area, for the operation. The doctor said he cannot tell me much more until he is in there and I am really very uneasy. I am not so much uneasy with my care here but because I don't know what to expect. Thanks for any guidance or info. on this.
