The purpose of the Rally for Medical Research and the National Day of Action is to call on our nation's policymakers from all 50 states to make funding for National Institutes of Health (NIH) a national priority and raise awareness about the importance of continued investment in medical research that leads to MORE PROGRESS, MORE HOPE and MORE LIVES SAVED. Aside from supporting lifesaving research, NIH funding sustains a vibrant and innovative 21st century U.S. economy and supports jobs. Thanks to the $2 billion increase to the NIH budget that Congress approved for FY 2016, the U.S. saw an additional economic gain from investing in the NIH of $4 billion compared to 2015. In 2016, NIH funding and jobs generated by that funding produced $64.799 billion in new economic activity compared to $60.717 billion in 2015.
