Jackie....first off...so happy you can have surgery....For me the surgery was very successful...didn't even touch my ribs....scar only about 5 inches long...away from the girls...hee.. Came home from the hospital on the 5th day...and never got out of hospital garb and all my pretty nighties came home all nice and clean.....Had a RLL and back to work in 5 weeks and back to bowling in the sixth week...Threw the painkiller's away after 2nd day home....made me very nauseous...tylenol was just as good.... I wish the same for you...prayer's for all going to surgery....and of course ALL of you hugs...nonni

Hi Shelly.... A big hearty welcome to you...sorry you are here but you certainly have found the right place....This board has been my lifeline.... I hear your frustration and believe me we ALL feel the same...Just recently I was at the doctors..(I couldn't get ahold of my own) a walk in medical center...I had a very bad flu and with my history of LC I was afraid it would turn into puenmonia.... When the doctor came in and asked me questions...I also told her I was a lung cancer survivors for 3+ years and the first thing that came out of her mouth was "did you smoke"....grrrrrrrrrrrrr....I litterly shook my finger at her and said "yes I smoked about 10 years ago...and YOU should know better than to ask a question like that"....and as a matter of fact...my LC did NOT come from smoking ...it was BAC which has nothing to do with smoking....I shut her down in her tracks....I hate hate hate that question....So what if I did and still smoked...do I deserve LC....you idiot....I'll never go back to her again...she needs to get back to her text books... Shelly please come back and post more ...you will get such support here that will make you feel so much better...So sorry about your dx...you are much too young...but you have a wonderful hb and beautiful children to get you thru this and you'll be fine...Many people on this board with you stage are doing just fine...keep up the good fight and hang in there while we are all waiting for the BIG C meaning the BIG CURE hugs...and come back soon...nonni

Hi Pat and welcome to the group...Of course sorry you had to find us but glad you did... With that being said...I WOULD RUN OUT OF THAT ONC'S OFFICE WITH THE SPEED OF LIGHTNING....I've heard a lot of stories about different Onc's...but this one takes the cake...He doesn't even know what he is talkin about....He is so contadictive....I would try and talk to your FIL to get a second opinion and who know's..he may like the second one better... Best wishes and prayers for all of you...believe me WE know how frightening this could be...but if you get a good doctor and a good game plan ..you can revolve your life around that and feel better about everything... Connie my friend...you are 'da best'....You alway's come up with such wonderful 'thread's' on the board...I think this is really a good one to share with all our friends here... For me...you know my main problem is 'sick in the head' with this LC stuff...worry wart that I am is my main health problem...but I am slowing over coming that specially when I get a good report like I just did...Other than that...it is mostly aches and pains...(and dare I blame it on old age)...no way!!! not me..ha... But really...I really don't have to much to complain about ..thank God...a little 'osteo'...a little "Gerd'..but for the most part I'm OK... I pray for everyone here for all the other health problems...other than LC..(Lord only know's that's enough)..and hope that what ever it is...they could deal with and get on with their life the best that they can...This is no 'dress rehersal'...so we have to make the best with what we have...and alway's remember there is someone who is worse off then us.. Hi Sandra.... Many moons ago I had blood in the urine...way before I was dx...went to the uroligist...he did a cystoscopy everything was fine...kept checking with him for years...till it finally went away and nothing came of it...but that's not to say..don't have it checked...YES..you must...like other's said it can come from many many things...and maybe just nothing like me....Good luck but please have it checked right away so you won't worry... hugs...nonni

Like I said in a previous post...I quit smoking about 8 yrs before being dx...After 7 attempts and one time as long as 7 months...than at my niece's wedding ...a couple of vodka tonic's is all it took...and there I was back smoking again...Mind you I am not a drinker...just sociable one...but that did have an effect on me that I wanted a ciggy...ugh And there I was back smoking..only took one to do it Than about 4 yrs later watching tv one night...something triggered me and I swear I can't remember what...but I said...'that's it..I will never smoke another ciggerate...I had 2 left in my pack and crumbled them up and threw them in the trash... My biggest support was my family...(not really)...and I'll tell you why....they ALL said.."oh yeah...we know..you'll go back again"...Well you couldn't blame them for saying that because they knew that I tried to stop numberous times...When I say they were my biggest support..what I mean is..."I'LL SHOW YOU'...and as hard as it was..I did....I think the was the hardest thing I have ever done...I thought of them as my 'friends'...just popp a cigg and i'd be fine... Now when I think back...how in the hell did I EVER smoke all those years...I gagg just thinking about it...I think cold turkey is the way to go...instead of all this other stuff that you put in your body...Hard I know..but ya gotta do what ya gotta do... Don't you know us LC survivors are NOT supposed to smoke????...(just a little snicker here)...I wish everyone the best of luck that are trying to stop...just keep trying and it will happen hugs..nonni

Hey Nick... First I want to thank you for the wonderful job you are doing and when "they' come up with this BS...it is only going to make you work harder and BE HEARD.. Ok..it's true...we know smoking is a big risk factor...but I am so %$#^&* sick and tired of hearing "DID YOU SMOKE"...Yes!!! I smoked..but quit 8 yrs before I was dx and my LC DID NOT COME FROM SMOKING IT WAS BAC....not smoking related at all...
