More than you probably want to know -

    Lung Cancer Primary adenocarcinoma

December 13th – 2012 open thoracotomy right lower lobe, No Chemo

    Testing preformed pre surgery:

    •           Cat scan came back good (only showed single nodule)

    •           Pet scan came back good (nothing else lit up)

    •           Biopsy pathology (Moderately-to-poorly-differentiated Adenocarcinoma)

    •           Lung function test came back (Normal ranges)

    •           Lymph nodes do not appear to be infected (pre surgery, CAT & PET)

This was Pre surgery biopsy pathology:

    •           Stage 1

    •           Single nodule 2.5 cm

    •           Adenocarcinoma of the lung, compatible with lung primary

    •           Moderately-to-poorly-differentiated Adenocarcinoma

    This was Post surgery pathology:

    Pathologic:

    Stage pT1b, pNO, pMX

Tumor size greatest dimension: 3.0 cm

    Moderately to poorly differentiated Adenocarcinoma

No Evidence of ALK gene rearrangement detected by fish

    No K-ras Mutation was identified

    Bronchial margin, uninvolved

    Vascular margin, uninvolved

    21 lymph nodes negative

Lobe sectioning demonstrated a 3.0 cm mass located at least 2 cm from the nearest vascular and bronchial margins, and 0.8 cm from the pleural surface.

No additional lesions or suspicious areas identified.

    Hospital stay 4 days

    2 chest tubes for drainage

Had epidural but it did not work / bummer

    Epidural headache for a week

Overall considering for me it went pretty smooth, remember it’s a major surgery and there will least 6 months of healing time. Your age, prior health, your team as in doctors and family all has to be considered in your recovery.

Last 6 years have been smooth had low dose CT every 6 months for 3 years than once a year for the next 3 years.

My last CT December 10 2018 shows 2ea noncalcified nodules in upper right lobe  1 is 6mm the other 7mm

Now I get to wait to see if they grow, another CT in 3 months (ugh!) fingers crossed!

I don't want to loose anymore lobes that's for sure.
