More than you probably want to know -
Lung Cancer Primary adenocarcinoma
December 13th – 2012 open thoracotomy right lower lobe, No Chemo
Testing preformed pre surgery:
• Cat scan came back good (only showed single nodule)
• Pet scan came back good (nothing else lit up)
• Biopsy pathology (Moderately-to-poorly-differentiated Adenocarcinoma)
• Lung function test came back (Normal ranges)
• Lymph nodes do not appear to be infected (pre surgery, CAT & PET)
This was Pre surgery biopsy pathology:
• Stage 1
• Single nodule 2.5 cm
• Adenocarcinoma of the lung, compatible with lung primary
• Moderately-to-poorly-differentiated Adenocarcinoma
This was Post surgery pathology:
Pathologic:
Stage pT1b, pNO, pMX
Tumor size greatest dimension: 3.0 cm
Moderately to poorly differentiated Adenocarcinoma
No Evidence of ALK gene rearrangement detected by fish
No K-ras Mutation was identified
Bronchial margin, uninvolved
Vascular margin, uninvolved
21 lymph nodes negative
Lobe sectioning demonstrated a 3.0 cm mass located at least 2 cm from the nearest vascular and bronchial margins, and 0.8 cm from the pleural surface.
No additional lesions or suspicious areas identified.
Hospital stay 4 days
2 chest tubes for drainage
Had epidural but it did not work / bummer
Epidural headache for a week
Overall considering for me it went pretty smooth, remember it’s a major surgery and there will least 6 months of healing time. Your age, prior health, your team as in doctors and family all has to be considered in your recovery.
Last 6 years have been smooth had low dose CT every 6 months for 3 years than once a year for the next 3 years.
My last CT December 10 2018 shows 2ea noncalcified nodules in upper right lobe 1 is 6mm the other 7mm
Now I get to wait to see if they grow, another CT in 3 months (ugh!) fingers crossed!
I don't want to loose anymore lobes that's for sure.
