  1. Hello, What the doctor said after an appointment? Are you not clear with stages of lung cancer? The cancer is located only in the lungs and has not spread to any lymph nodes in stage I, when the cancer is in the lung and nearby lymph nodes in stage II, where cancer is found in the lung and in the lymph nodes in the middle of the chest, also described as locally advanced disease stage III.
  2. Options for surgery include the following, depending upon the size and position of the tumor in the chest: Lobectomy, which involves removal of one lobe of the lung. Segmentectomy (the removal of an anatomical division of one lobe) or wedge resection (the removal of a non-anatomically defined area of lung around the tumor) may be considered in some patients with a small tumor of 2 cm or smaller. This form of surgery may also be favored for some people who could not tolerate conventional lobectomy. This might happen in a person whose lungs do not work well.

  18. The total dose of external radiation therapy is usually divided into smaller doses called fractions. The most common way to give it is daily, 5 days a week (Monday through Friday) for 5 to 8 weeks. Weekend rest breaks allow time for normal cells to recover. The total dose of radiation and the number of treatments is based on size, location & type of your cancer.
  19. The test does not prove that a person has cancer, but it does identify people who need additional, more definitive tests. The important thing is that we can pick up even stage I lung cancer. To diagnose lung cancer really early provides the opportunity for curative treatment. Unfortunately, lung cancer does not cause symptoms until fairly late in the disease process.

  21. You should see a doctor as quick as possible. There are three main types of lung cancer. Knowing which type you have is important because it affects your treatment options and your outlook (prognosis). If you aren’t sure which type of lung cancer you have, ask your doctor so you can get the right information.
