I also take vit D3 5000iu every day for deficiency in my blood work. No research for help with lung cancer that I know of but I am going to resear.ch it today
  2. I had an open thoracotomy for right lower lobectomy exactly 4 months ago. Almost immediately post-op I had full range of motion with my right arm. I could feel some scar tissue formation at the chest tube site if I was pressing on the site. Not painful to speak of but noticeable. I was working yesterday and was pulling a pt up in bed with the help form another nurse and I felt a quick pop or snap or something under my right breast close to my underarm and the visible scar from the chest tube. I have no change in my breathing, no swelling or loss of movement. I just have pain on deep inspiration in my right upper chest near the collar bone where all my previous chest tube pain was. Does it sound possible that I broke apart some scar tissue that had formed over the last 4 months? Does this sound familiar to anyone? I had stage 1a nsc adenocarcinoma. Any help is appreciated. If the pain increases or my symptoms change I will be contacting the surgeon. The good thing is I work with the surgeon and see him daily. Obviously the support and suggestions from people who are living with this diagnosis is farmuch better than from the md who doesn't live with the lung cancer diagnosis. Thank you my fellow fighters.
  3. Every single word she said is so absolutely true. I too was a non-smoker, no prior lung history of asthma or copd. She is beautiful and so inspiring.
  4. Good morning Bridget, I also had surgery for Stage 1A NSCLC adenocarcinoma. My surgeon and oncologist both agree that removal of the lobe where the tumor was is the current treatment. Personally I am scared to death. I too had breast cancer 13 years ago and treatment was removal of tumor with chemo and radiation. Seems like there would be some type of further treatment with lung cancer have such a bad rap about recurrence with in the 5 years. I carry the brac2 gene but there does not seem to be any correlation with breast and primary lung cancer. I am lost just like you are. If anyone can find reassuring info on this topic I would be greatly appreciative. Keep me posted Shari

    confused here

Donna and Tom, Thank you both for your quick responses. I really appreciate any and all help. Shari
  6. Thank you so much for the encouragement. I saw the pulmonologist today and he basically said the same thing and actually congratulated me for doing so well post of and not requiring any additional therapy. He is referring me to MD Anderson to see if there is any gene typing that can be done. He's awesome. I have worked with him for years and trust him wholeheartedly. Thank you again
  7. My paperwork from my recent surgery says that I have primary pulmonary adenecarcinoma. Been searching the internet for hours and still can't figure out if it is small cell or non-small cell. Of course it's a Sunday night and I 'm not about to call the md to ask. The internet can be quite scarey especially when looking for survival rates. Any help?
  8. Good evening Michelle, When planning my surgery the surgeon was not sure if the Vats procedure would work for me because I had the implants from a bilateral mastectomy, radiation to the right side of my chest from the breast cancer and possible scar tissue in the chest area. So I went in to surgery not knowing if I would have a VATS with a simple wedge resection for a noncancerous nodule or an open thoracotomy with a right lower lobe resection due to a cancerous lesion. I ended up with the second and open thoracotomy that was small cell adenocarcinoma with negative nodes. Hope this helps. Keep me posted.
  9. It's a good thing that you are having surgery to get some definite answers. I just had surgery in october and I too have implants due to breast cancer. My surgeon and I decided against a Vats due to the implants and the location of my tumor. I had an open thoractomy. I am an ICU nurse who works with open heart and lung surgery patients. My patients having Vats are up and about in the am and really get back to everyday activities quite quickly. Prayers for a quick recovery and good news. Keep me posted. Lastly, I totally agree about the antidepressants. Shari
  10. My name is Shari and I am a 52 yr old open heart nurse. I am a soon to be 13 year breast cancer survivor. On Labor day I was admitted to the hospital for what we thought was chest pain. Of course being the ICU nurse that I am, I insisted that everything was normal. As I said, everything was normal with my heart. It was a strange meant to be situation I guess. All of my heart tests were normal. My CT scan of my chest showed a small nodule in the right lower lobe of my lung. I am a non-smoker and non-drinker. I have not been around second hand smoke. Long story short, I had a open thoracotomy and a right lower lobectomy for adenocarcinoma. I guess it was a good thing it wasn't mets from the breast. Primary lung cancer though how could that be? One would expect that since I have already gone through all the grieving and fears from the breast cancer that this would be a breeze to get through. I am struggling so hard with this diagnosis. My lymph nodes were all negative thank God. There is no treatment for me now, they took the entire lobe. My oncologist says we will just have to be very aggressive with follow up scans since my body "likes to make cancer" That's really scarey. No chemo, no radiation, nothing??? I had surgery on Oct.19th, I am still not back to work yet. I continue with pain in the right upper chest with deep inspiration. I still get short of breath very easily. I am not taking narcotics anymore but I do take tramadol daily to just not feel like I am 90 years old. Everyone is telling me to stop being so hard on myself, but I feel like I should be much better by now. I know though that there is no way I could run up and down the halls of my ICU to care for others right now. I have not seen a pulmonologist yet, my surgeon didn't think it was necessary since I was so young and healthy. I have an appointment Monday with the pulmonologist because my primary highly suggested it. Maybe I can get some guidance here and from him too. Thanks for just listening and understanding where I am.
