Unfortunately the CT scan wasn't favourable and I have ceased the Opdivo. I will be returning to Taxol and Carboplatin. It certainly worked in the past .

Wednesday last week wasn't the happiest of days. Aside from the news on Opdivo ( which part of me was expecting), my BMW M2C went into limp home mode . I've decided that most drivers are complete idiots and never read the traffic.

While keytruda appears to be the immunotherapy drug of choice in US,here in Oz recent developments have established protocols that have made keytruda as a 1st line treatment and Opdivo as a 2nd line treatment.
I am scheduled for my 7th treatment of Opdivo on Wednesday this week following a CT scan last Thursday. It will be interesting to see if it is working its magic or a complete waste of time.
I have really only had one side effect. Very itchy skin which I seem to have been able to overcome with cortisol cream and using my stash of dexmathazone tablets ( only 2.5 mg)

I start on Keytruda next Wednesday.
The Alimta + Carboplatin reduced my haemoglobin levels to 71 g/L ( Ref. range is 125 g/L) and I surely knew it.
Worth noting on the rash. I'll reach for the antihistamines. In 2008 , about a months after I had completed my course of Folfox chemo , I developed a rash and ah worked well.

    I'd take more chemo.
Taxol + Carboplatin isn't that bad. I had no hairloss.
I had 12 cycles of Folfox ( Oxaliplatin + Fluorouracil) for Stage 3 Colon Cancer in 2007. That was really nasty.
I counted them up and I have now done 26 cycles of 4 different chemo regimes.

I am currently on Alimta and Carboplatin as a 2nd line chemo treatment ( I had cancerous nodules).
I have a very high tolerance for chemo ( 12 cycles of Folfox for Colon Cancer in 2007, 4 cycles of Gemzar + Carboplatin followed by 6 cycles of Taxol+ Carboplatin for NSCLC in 2017) and have had no nausea.
I think it is just the luck of the draw.

Yesterday I received the results of the CT scan from a week ago.
Still in remission. My oncologist seemed quite pleased /confounded as I have never had surgery , only chemo ( Gemzar+ Carbo and Taxol + Carbo) and radiation.
He had played a small trick on me by leaving the scan from his previous patient on the light screen. it looked pretty awful but he did say that it wasn't mine and that mine was a lot prettier.

Thankyou for your good wishes and prayers and it's good news on my lung cancer results with no new spots and lymph nodes are still out of site so I'm very happy however I got news that worries me about the sarcoma in my leg that is nearly 7 yrs ago something showed on the bone in the area of the soft tissue sarcoma but oncologist said it's probably damage from radiotherapy back in 2012 and thinks its unlikely to be anything to worry about because soft tissue sarcomas dont mets to the bone so I'm having a pet scan to make sure all is good and I dont have any pain in my leg so that's a good sign and sarcomas go to lungs if it spreads and no sign there so hopefully all good ..

wwroam got a reaction from LexieCat in Gemzar 2nd line metastatic
Until now I had never noticed anyone else being treated with Gemcitibine.
In my case it was firstline with carboplatin.I had a small tumour and 2 lymph nodes and was not a candidate for surgery. I started off with 4 three week cycles and this chemo was very effective. It cleaned out the lymph nodes and significantly shrank the tumour.
As a former colon cancer patient in 2007 , and having already had 12 rounds of Folfox ( Fluorouracil and Oxaliplatin) I was surprised at how few side effects I experienced. With one exception. This chemo left my Platelets and WBCs fairly intact but destroyed my haemoglobin. All up I had 10 blood transfusions and today, 16 months later my haemoglobin is below the recommended range.

    Hi all 👋
So finally saw the specialist on Thursday and he wants me to do a scan in 6 months and if no change still he is fairly certain MPN are probably benign. He was much more reassuring than the doctor has been ..he said there are 3 nodules ( no one has told me this until now... I was imaging like 30 of them 🙃) .. he said they can be as simple as scar tissue from having measles as a child. He also said to me that it would be very unlikely that 3 spots of cancer would spring up at the same time so basically MPN is less suspicious than a solitary nodule in most cases. Anyway what I took from it is If the scan next June shows no change we can relax.
Anyway that’s where it’s at for anyone following the thread. Will update when that scan is complete.

I had another CT scan Monday last week and followed up with a meeting with my Oncologist yesterday ( port flush day).
The nodule showed no sign of progression. According to Dr. Jain I'm still in remission.

My last CT scan found a nodule . My next scan is in 6 weeks so I'll cool my heels until then.
In the world of Colon Cancer, they are referred to as "lung thingies" and back in 2008 I had a couple that never amounted to anything.
