  1. Hi Del,

I just wanted to welcome you. It sounds like they caught the tumors early in order for you to have surgery. I don't think they usually do surgery on SCLC. That is good news. As for the fatigue, you are lucky that's all you have. My dad has SCLC and never felt sick but he remained active. Sorry, I don't have any advice on VATS surgery.

  2. I absolutely love that "spring smell." I love it when all the snow starts to melt and it also is a reminder that my birthday is coming. I love it when you can wear a light sweater without your winter jacket for the first time! Unfortunately, spring isn't here yet. We got a bit more snow yesterday and last night :( I am really anxious for Spring to arrive!!!!!!

  4. Cindi, I am soooo happy for you. I don't know how you feel because I don't have cancer but my dad does. It is somewhat hard to understand why some people survive for so long and others don't. A good friend of mine's dad died from LC 3 years ago. He died within 6 months of dx. Why did her dad not have that long and why is my dad sticking kicking around? I believe that God has a plan for everyone and it is certainly not your time to go! Go celebrate! Your family must be sooooo happy!

  5. Hi Janice,

I know exactly what you are going through. My dad was diagnosed 19 months ago with SCLC but it was limited. Although he is doing good now, it has been a scary ride. I am 28 and about to get married in October. I am sooo afraid something will happen before then. It is quite a roller coaster ride of emotions...you are not alone.

Don't give up. Whatever the results of his PET scans, I am sure the doctors will have another plan of action. Are you going with him to get the results? We are here for you. Please keep us posted.

My prayers are with you and your family.

  6. Hi Barb,

Welcome. I am glad that your mom seems to be tolerating the chemo. Just know that my dad was diagnosed 19 months ago and he is doing good. Small cell lung cancer responds very well to chemo so I am glad your mom decided to do it! We are here for you when you need us. I will have your mom in my prayers.

  7. Sending you my thought and prayers too! Just to let you know when my dad went for a check up in January, his blood levels were low. Nothing serious. Please keep us updated.

  8. Hi Libby,

The same thing happened to my dad a year ago! He was in the hospital because of short of breath and was given 2 kinds of antibiotics. He had pneumonitis. He was released with oxygen. A CT scan revealed he had a collapsed lung so back in the hospital he went for 5 days with a chest tube inserted. He was and still is on oxygen only when he is at home. He still works full time. Over the past year his oxygen levels have increased. He was very weak at the beginning but he is doing okay except that he still has an occasional cough. I am sure others have experienced pneumonits differently. My dad was never given prednisone, only cortisone for the cough. So, it takes time. Radiation keeps working after treatments have stopped. When your mom starts feeling better, I think it is important that she tries walking slowly to help gain strength in her lungs. My prayers are with your mom.

  9. I strongly disagree when doctors put a "time" on a person's life. My dad's doctors never put a time on my dad. When my dad was in the hospital last year with pneumonitis, we were at our local hospital (not a cancer centre) and the doctor there just looked at my dad and asked him why he was there! Just those words to my parents just crushed my dad. Well, my dad is still kicking around and there are so many people here that have proved doctors wrong! Postive attitude is so important during treatments. So, don't listen, keep FIGHTING!!! I just know that clinical trial will do the trick!
