PaulaC reacted to Rower Michelle in Scan Time (again)
    Hi All,
Somehow the last three months just flew by doing blissfully normal things.  I'm up for the semi-annual brain MRI and CT Scan next Wednesday afternoon results scheduled for Thursday morning.  I've got the usual activities planned to help pass the time.  Overall I'm feeling pretty good heading into this scan, which is 15 months on targeted therapy.  For some reason the scanxiety hasn't hit yet (am I getting "used to" this????).    I just started the LiveStrong Program at the YMCA so I'll probably be too sore and wiped out to have the worry monkeys take over.
Irrespective of the results we are heading to Amelia Island the last week of January for our normal winter trip which I am really looking forward to.   In the meantime, I've placed a call to the clinic this morning to obtain the Valium for the MRI so I am locked and loaded for this go round.  Any prayers, thoughts, ju ju or good karma is appreciated as I head into this next round.   I'll keep you all posted.

Good morning.  We had a wonderful Thanksgiving and holiday weekend with friends and family.
Husband is doing pretty well.  He is eating good and he/we have figured out his abdominal pain is more from constipation than disease.  Once we took care of that he is feeling much better.  He has gained a couple of pounds back!  The heartburn has also resolved.
Yesterday he had a port placed which went well. He also had an oncology appt. His labs are better than last week so 2nd cycle is scheduled to begin Monday.
Some more good news.  No evidence of metastatic disease was found via brain MRI he had on Tuesday!!  👍
Here's hoping all goes well with this round.  There's still going to be some trial and error involved, I just hope since we both understand a little more, it will help us stay ahead of any side effects.

Stage !V adenocarcinoma - first line of treatment is clinical trial. 5 treatments of stereotactic radiation, followed by bi monthy infusions of immunotherapy. Opdivo every infusion, and Yervoy added every 3rd infusion. Having my 6 month scans.  First PET scan since treatment began.  Hoping ...praying.... for good news. .  Since I have plenty of annoying side effects from immunotherapy ..dry mouth, constipation,  itchy, dry skin, LOTS of muscle pain ..breathlessness and cough ---  I sure hope it's worth it!
Please keep good thoughts for me!  I am happy I can go to this forum and reach out to others like me!   It makes all the difference in being able to unload my hopes and fears.  Will update results next week.

Thanks Tom and Curt for replying, I had no idea that they would continue to scan for so long, but I am going to change my way of thinking and be grateful for the scans, as they would surely catch lung cancer early if it becomes that!

The key in this situation is to stay hydrated and as long as he can get water down the rest will follow.

Thank you! So far so good, but just magnesium, potassium, steroid and anti-nausea drugs at this point. Two chemo drugs coming soon ...

I remember that first treatment and being prepared for a long day. I was one of the ones that felt like sleeping through it because of the Benadryl given through my IV. I’m glad you’ve started her treatments and pray for mild or no side effects.

    Hi Charles,
It’s nice to meet you and I’m glad you found us. I’m sorry you find yourself in this situation. At the time of my diagnosis last year, we were floored to find I had lung cancer.  In fact almost 60% of newly diagnosed lung cancers are people who have never smoked. Who knew?  It’s not well known in the PCP community. In most instances like yours, there are often no symptoms.  We’ve had a number of members who learned about their lung cancer in the emergency department following a scan for something else.

Of course you are freaking out, I did too. We all do.  Fortunately there have been more advances in lung cancer treatment in the 5 years than in the last fifty.  There’s a long diagnostic process that involves the biopsy, biomarker testing, brain MRI and PET Scan before a precision treatment plan can be implemented. This can take a few weeks.  Most people who were not smokers have something called a biomarker.  The biomarker is a gene mutation that caused the cancer. It’s not generally hereditary.  It’s a freak accident.

During this time it’s important to stay off of Google.  Dr Google is not our friend as the lung cancer science is moving so fast generally anything more than 6-12 months is already too old.  Ask us anything you want. In this forum you’ll find the most supportive inspiring people.

We’ll be here every step of the way.

My wife had her 1st round of chemo Monday. The 4 hr treatment turned into 5 after the lab work came back she was a little low on potassium which added another hour for that I.V. So far she has been doing well no serious effects . Since this was our 1st treatment now we know what to expect. We took a tablet and watched Ray Donovan, See and some of the Mandalorian. It helped pass the time but we had to get up as the chairs were not too comfy. We also took snacks. I am just glad that the treatments have started after all this waiting. I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and also to Thank all for the encouragement and tips we have received. Thank You,Robert.

I almost feel that I shouldn’t even be posting here, as I do not have lung cancer.....yet! My father did, and died at 46 when I was 12 years old, so I have lived most of my 62 years waiting and wondering when and if lung cancer will be my demise! Bless all of you on this Lungevity site, I love how you can all help each other going through these horrible events in life that you push through with such determination! I hope I can do the same one day if my nodule becomes cancer. Next CT scan is December 4th, scanziety is here to stay until the results are in......losing sleep, but hoping for the best!

    Hi All,
Thank you Lou, for the warm holiday wishes.  I feel the same way, this is a very special place and I'm grateful for all of you.  Not sure how I would have made it through the last year without you all.
So I just can't help myself.... a little ditty to kick off the holiday week.....

    All,
I hope it's okay to post this here.  I figured "General" was a good place to do it.  Having lung cancer this year was one of the worst things I've ever gone through.  When I came to this forum I was a hot mess; depressed, despondent, little hope for the future and scared to death.  So many of you were so wonderful to me.  I sometimes go back and read the original posts and feel the same comfort they gave me then.  You all helped to get me through this terrible time and on this Thanksgiving I am so thankful to be alive, NED, with my family and super thankful for finding all of you.  You gave me hope, strength, great advice and took me from helplessness to hope and recovery.  Thanks to all of you and while I'm not happy about having LC I sure am glad that I met all of you.
    Happy Thanksgiving,
    Lou

Thank you all for your replies. I really just need something that is finally positive in my life since it has been a long, long year.    So I am using tomorrow, 11/24 as my date since that was the date of detection.
So a happy 1 year cancer survivor dinner and toast will occur tomorrow.  I wish good health and healing to all on this board. Thank you for being here for me whenever I have needed answers. I'm grateful that I am not alone. 🧡
