Hi John.  I am so glad you found us. In December 1997 I was suppose to start a new job.  I am an RN.
I was told the pain down my arm and in my chest was not due to moving and unpacking.  It was Stage 3B Lung Cancer.
I did have to put off starting this new job until I finished chemo, radiation , then RUL Lobectomy followed by more chemo again..
I responded well.  I did get to start that new job in 1998 and I retired from that hospital last year.
I hope you respond well to your treatment also. Keep us posted.

I am so thankful that I met the late Connie Berchem and she
introduced me to  a lung cancer support group and later to the on line support group.
I am so thankful that Katie started the on line support group.
I hope you also have many reasons to be thankful.

Just wanted to say that I opened my internet site to get to my email this morning.
It always lists the latest news , stories of interest etc.
On the top right guess what !!!!!!!!!   There was a link to Lungevity  so people could learn about lung cancer and early diagnosis .
The TV news always talks about Breast Cancer events etc but mine has not mentions Lung Cancer Awareness month is November
so I was really pleased to see this info on my internet site.

    Where are you being treated?
I am here in Minnesota also.  Boy it has been a great Fall.  Great weather for being outside.
Hope we have the mild winter they predict.
Are you having any symtoms?  How did they find it?

Hello.  Welcome to our group.   Wow, you are still working full time?
Glad to hear you are in a clinical trial.  Cyber knife is such a good treatment.  Glad to hear it was a success on the brain mets.
Hip surgery on top of all the rest !  A couple of years ago I broke the head of my femur off at the hip and had surgery,
it took  a while to get "back on my feet" and recover.  That also was long after I was treated for lung cancer.  Yours you say was
during your treatment , again WOW.!

Pessimism doesn't cure any disease.  It either makes it more difficult or impossible to get over or cure.

Stress is bad for you.  All of us should do what we can to reduce stress, as --- go for a walk, talk about what is going on, get it off your chest.

Lung cancer is horrible.  I lost my father in law and my husband to it.  Some how I survived. Some of us do survive.

Hello.  Sorry you are going through this.  I imagine your husband is acting as most men would  ,  " like a tough guy"

I can not say for sure what that Dr 's role is but what I can imagine it might be. If your husband smoked that long he might surely need help quiting.
Also he might need an evaluation of what his lung capacity is or is he able to maintain good Oxygen sats.  Will he need help to tolerate his needed treatment.

Please be there for the times your husband may open up and talk  He will need someone nonjudgemental to listen to him.

    Keep us posted.

Hello.  So happy to hear of your story of survival.

I survived but my father in law and my husband did not.
Did you hear the American Lung Association trying to raise money for research of lung cancer?

I bet not.  The news broadcasts every month it seems about events to raise money for Breast Cancer
BUT almost never about lung cancer events.  Most people think that all people with lung cancer smoked.
Do they ever mention that pregnancy and breast feeding decrease your chances for breast cancer?
Do they ever say that using birth control pills etc increase your chance for breast cancer? No they call them "health care".

When I was young they encouraged you to smoke and enjoy yourself.  Every one smoked on TV , the news broadcasters, Lucille Ball and Ricky .
Research had  been done at that time that showed it put you at risk but the tobacco companies said it was not good research, you'd be fine.
After all they wanted to make lots of money!

I hope you are serious with wanting to join us few survivors to inform the public and get research on prevention, early diagnosis and cures.

even making a laughing sound and putting it with a smile on your face is good for you.
It raises good hormones and makes you healthier.

Hello and welcome.  You have done one of the things you need to do , you found us.   Finding  support and information , a place to air your feelings are all very important for you.

They saw the spot last August? It took 5 months to diagnose?  Glad they got your treatment going. I started with daily radiation and 2 chemo drugs.  The follow up CT showed it responded.
then I had surgery to remove my right upper lobe and more chemo after. Let us know what your next step is.  Keep us posted.

See below to find the story of my journey, It was tough but I am so thankful I am here to tell you about it.

Debbie I am a survivor.  Before I even got married my husband's father died of lung cancer. So his mother had to come to our wedding alone.
My journey started December 3, 1997. I had 2 different chemos and daily radiation.  The tumor  in my right upper lobe shrunk.
I was able to have surgery and after I had more chemo ( Cisplatin and Etopiside.) . I went to a local support group in St. Paul for lung cancer.
I met a wonderful women Connie who eventually introduced me to Katie who started this on line support group and murged with Lungevity because it also
was into educating and research and support for those with lung cancer.
Then  about 2 years ago my husband was told he had lung cancer.  It started with 2 tiny spots.  They were vicious and spread to his hip,
lymph nodes, spine the to his cerebral spinal fluid and I lost him.   We had been married 45 years.
I go to a grief group.
I have been through this journey, have friends that have been through this journey, have lost loved ones to this journey .
Did I mention last year I retired working as an RN.  It seems many times at work I would find out my patient was on the journey or had a relative there.
I really want an early screening diagnostic tool.   Better targeted treatment and cures.  Best of all a way to prevent this from happening at all.

Wishing great results from your treatment like my good friend Janet that I met with small cell about 15 years ago.  She is still in " remission"

Hello, glad you found us.  I have several friends that have survived SCLC for many years.  Are you getting chemo?
Glad to hear the tumor near your heart has responded so well to the radiation.  That is good news.
This disease and treatment is quite a challenge emotionally and physically.   Please keep us posted.

Hi Rose.  Wow you had two surgeries on the same side of your chest.
Isn't it something how our bodies can adapt ?  I have a friend who also had lung cancer and had a lobe of lung removed,
then a few years later a tumor showed up on the other side.  So the took a lobe off that side also.  Bothe were different kinds of NSCLC !
She is doing well and goes to exercise everyday. Glad you are here to share your survival story and give support to those just starting.

Hi Pixie.  Glad you found us.  How did the doctor find that tumor?  Were you having symptoms?
When they remove a lobe on the right chest the other two lobes just expand out and fill the space.
I had a lobe on the right taken out in 1998 ,  no problems since then as far as breathing goes.
Keep us posted on how things are going.
    Waiting to hear.

I do not believe killing people is medical care. Doctors are suppose to take an oath,  " Though shall do not harm "
I also learned as a small child  -- " Though shall not kill "  In some states here in the USA they have legalized murder, doctors can prescribe meds that will kill you.

On the other hand if chemo or other treatments are not going to make a difference , you are not obliged to take them.

There are many things you can do for people with health problems, pain control, nausea, etc etc
Do them.  Help them.  The Lord knows when your time is.
