    Mom's Home

Well good news I brought Mom home from the hospital today.(Just in time for Mother's Day). She came home on two blood thinners Inahep(injection and Coumadin (pill form). Her breathing is a little better. Her coumts are dropping from chemo and she is tired, but she is home. Thank you for all of your prayers and know that we are praying for you and your families also. We are just taking one day a time.
  2. Weel Mom's SOB turned out to be a PE in her right lung. She has started radiation to her hip while she is the hospital. She is feeling a little down and dicouraged. They may have to put in a filter in to get catch the clots before they get to her lung.
  3. Welcome to the board. That is great that your Dad responded so well to treatment. My Mom to was dx withstage IIb nsclc had a left pneumonectomy 3/16 radiation to r hip started chemo taxol and carbo with anaphylactic reaction to taxol stopped with 1st dose, now going to try carbo and taxotere. Keep the faith my prayers are with you and your family.
  4. I too was a lurker it took a little while before I could pull myself together and put my story up. The support here is truly nothing short of a miracle. It is important to keep the faith. My prayers are with you and your family. Good luck with your next scan!
  5. My mother has shortness of breath six days into chemo(carbo had a reaction to taxol). Has only right lung, was not short of breath after surgery 3/16 started having shortness of breath six days after 1st dose of carbo. Has anyone else had shortness of breath during chemo? Did it get better or go away?

    Thank you

The plan is carboplatin/taxotere for four to six months. She stats radiation therapy to her hip on Monday. The radiation oncologist was very positive. It's a small lesion and the hip will heal itself. It's amazing what a difference one doctor can make. On May 19th we are going to see Dr.Corey Langer at Fox Chase Cancer for a second opinion on our chemo plan. Plus the doctor we are seeing now is not very informative and does not show much emotion. I rold my Mom a "doctor is like a shoe, you have to keep trying them on to you fnd one that fits." Although I believe her current oncologist may be good, he doesn't give the emotional support she needs from a physcian. Also he does not educate a patient well on his treatment plans. I am a little familiar with this, since I work in a hospital lab for over thirteen years and healthcare all my life. Well thank you all this message board is like a ray of hope in a terrible storm..........
  7. This board is the answer to my prayers. My mom 69 was dx with non small cell adenocarcinoma and had a left pneumonectomy 3/16. With 13 out of 17 lymph nodes involved closest and on the side of the tumor. The rest are clean and the surgeon was able to get the whole 4cm x 4cm x 3cm out with clean margins. After surgery a bone scan was done with a spot on the right hip, a Ct scan of right hip showed some lucency and lytic changes. The hip bone was moth like and had a small pathological fracture. What I need to know is a Ct scan of the bone a diagnostic tool in diagnosing mets. And is it true that non-small adenocarcinomas respond poorly to chemo? And any advice on treatments or thoughts would be warmly welcomed. My mother has no other health problems other than hypertension (on meds) she is very active and still works fulltime(currently on medical leave but chomping at the bit to go back). She runs circles around me, laying floors and laying ceramic tiles and in her spare time likes to garden.
  8. I am new here. On March 16th,2005 my mother(69years) had a Left Pneumonectomy she was diagnosed with non NSCLC adenocarcinoma staged at IIB with 13 out of 17 lymph nodes involved (closest and on the side of the tumor). It measured 4cm x 4cm x 3cm. No other lymph node involvement. Surgeon said he removed entire tumor margins were free. After surgery she had a bone scan which showed something in her R hip. Ct scan of right hip showed some luceney with moth like appearance and small pathological fracture of right hip. Her first treatment of chemo was taxol and carboplatin(she had an anaphylactic reaction to the taxol after ten minutes so she just got the carbo. It's been five days since chemo still feeling sick some vomitting and nausea and fatigue. Tomorrow we are off to the radiation oncologist for possible radiation to the right hip.
