Barry was on iressa for over a year and kept him completely stable. After small progression was noted he started Tarceva. He feel fine and we will have scans next month. Meanwhile he is feeling fit and welll.

This is absolutely fantastic. Barry has now been on TARCEVA for just over a month and we found real encouragement in your post. Long may this continue.

Hello everyone
On the recommendation of our onc with saw another oncologist. He went through various options but thought that we should give tarceva a try. (As suggested by Ric and Ry}. He said give it a little time. However we are seeing a surgeon to see if surgery may be an option (removal of lung and pluera) oncologist say too dangerous but we will see what the surgeon says.
Best wishes to everyone.

Barry had a very good response to gemzar. The side effects were fairly minimal. A little tiredness and on the fourth treatment some sickness but no too bad at all.

PS Little hair loss.

I think we will try and see if we can have a shot at Tarceva as we can tell quite quickly if it is having a benefit. Also looking into avastin. This has been a terrible blow as Barry is feeling so ok. (But then it is to everyone in this position).
I will keep you posted.

Hello
We have just returned from a visit to our oncologist where we received the following report (I'll paraphrase}:
Comparison is made with the scan October 05. Appearances of the small mediastinal nodes are unchanged from previously. In the left lower zone however within the lung parenchyma I am suspicious that there is slow progression. At the leval of the carina the lung parenchymal nodule has doubled in volume. In the adomen, liver and adrenals remain clear. Appearances are consistent with slow progresiom.
The nodules are still very small (1mm).
We are now going to the top lung cancer centre in London as they have access to more clinical trials etc.
The onc. says we should discontinue iressa, he does not think that tarceva will be beneficial but we will check this out (I do not know whether anyone follows Tom Cross' website but tarcea after iressa seemed to help.}
Any commments gratefully appreciated.
Love

Dear Sharon
We were really pleased with the news. I am sceptical when it comes to medical opinions sometimes(due to past experiences). Maybe get another opinion?

Dear Ry
I only just found your post and we are very disappointed at the news. There are drugs in development for patients who have acquired resistance to egfr inhibitors and perhaps these might be useful. Sloan Kettering in NY seem to be at the forefront of this research.
Very best wishes to you both.

As I have said before I know people are different but for Barry the chemo was not nearly as bad as was anticipated and the pain went very quickly. After each chemo session we actually had lunch in the local pub.

I am so upset and sad at the news. I cannot come to terms with the speed of her decline. Leslie will be missed greatly. Thinking of Mark.
