  1. Hello Everyone; I'm sorry it has been so long since I posted here. I just wanted to let you all know how I made out this past summer. My story began with a visit to the doctor back in May for a cold with blood pooling at the back of my throat each morning. I just assumed it was from snoring. My doctor ordered X-rays and they discovered a 2.9 cm nodule on my upper right lung. CT scan confirmed this growth was cavernous(sp). The location precluded a needle biopsy so I went to see the surgeon. He felt the lymph node near my clavicle and said it was enlarged and therefore very worrisome. He ordered a PET scan wich showed no lymph node involvement but a "process" showed up on my spine. I had an MRI which showed the "process" was harmless. Back to simple lung cancer. I had two lobes of my right lung removed. Two weeks after the surgery, when I was having my staples removed the surgeons assistant asked if anyone had gone over my pathology report. I said no and he informed me the nodule was just scar tissue from pneumonia and there was no evidence of cancer anywhere. I can't express the feeling that ran through my mind. I had my life back and I consider myself so very lucky.I just wanted - and needed - to Thank everyone on this forum. Your strength, courage, good humour and compassion got me through the darkest days of my life.I just wish everyone could be as lucky as I was with this diagnosis. Bill Lordan PS: This was my second lung cancer scare in 5 years. I hope I never have to go through this experience again but, if I do, it is nice to know there are so many caring people out there willing to help you survive this monstrous disease.
  2. Hello Everyone; I was scheduled to have a needle biopsy done Friday morning on a 2.9 cm nodule in my upper right lung. I got a call from the doctors office yesterday afternoon cancelling the procedure. They now want to do an open lung biopsy. They said there was to many blood vessels and bone to do the needle biopsy. Should I read anything into this change in procedure? Surely they would not put a person through this type of procedure unless there was a very high probability of lung cancer. I just get the feeling they know a lot more than they are telling me. I realize they cannot verify anything without the biopsy but I would appreciate someone discussing their rationale with me. I am waiting to set up counsultation with the surgeon and maybe he can shed some light on what is happening. This operation doesn't sound like much fun. Just as an aside, I started seeing blood again while clearing my throat in the morning. I hadn't seen any for almost a week and now its back. Once again, let me say how wonderful it is to have a place to go and get these things off my chest to people who know and understand. Thanks Bill Lordan
  3. I want to say Thank You to everyone who took the time to respond to my post. It is comforting to know that you folks are out there and always willing to help. I will keep you informed as to how my needle biopsy goes when I get the results. Thanks again, Bill Lordan
  4. Hello Everyone; I just discovered this forum this morning and I thought it might help me if I posted a message. I am waiting for a diagnosis that I suspect will be lung cancer. I had a very bad chest cold last month and I have been spitting up blood many mornings for several weeks but always thought it was my snoring combined with the constant coughing from my chest cold. I finally went to the doctor and had a CT scan done Thursday. They have discovered a 2.9 cm something on my upper right lung. I had no other symptoms and feel pretty good overall. I can't shake the feeling that it is going to be lung cancer and I just don't know how I am going to break it to my kids when it is verified. (They are 11 and 9 years old)I have never been more scared of anything before in my life. In reading this forum this morning - I have been up most of the night - I am encouraged that the diagnosis may not be the death sentence I expect. I am trying to stay positive for my wife who is in complete denial but it is a very hard thing to do.I just needed to tell someone. Thanks for letting me vent a little. Bill Lordan
