  1. I'm here. heading into my 8th week of bedrest. I was so psyched to have lots of lcsc time...until I realized that the position I need to be in to type gives me contractions. d'oh! so I lurk. I spent a week in the hospital trying to convince the little pumpkin to stay put a little longer, and he listened to his mama which is great. Suki is BEYOND psyched for the pending arrival, although we'd all have liked a slightly less eventful pregnancy.

I am in touch with Patkid, not so regularly but enough that I can tell you she's working hard and missing Brian. she's a love, as always.

I couldn't be prouder of the small role I played in getting this amazing NYC walk underway this Sunday, I am just so excited!! $36,000.00 raised and counting! shame I can't go, but it fills my heart to see the response it got.

my heart is broken over Joanie. we had lunch a couple times, and she was truly a shining light in the world.

  2. Dana, you and your family continue to dominate my thoughts. Strange coincidence - my grandfather is buried in the same place, my father grew up (from age 11 or so) in Clifton. Love and prayers to you. Amie

  3. Dana, I am just devastated to read this. Joanie definitely had a light that eminated from her person, and I know how proud she was of you and how thrilled she was to see you married, and to have time with her first grandbaby. my heart hurts so much for you. peace to you and the rest of your family, and all my love and admiration to Joanie's memory. xoxo

  4. Hi all. It's your MIA Bunny. I just wanted to let you know how phenomenally Suki is doing. She took a 'day job' in a furniture showroom to ease the pressure of being in business for herself (designer/space planner) and she was really worried about how she'd be able to handle it with one lung. Well. From my vantage point, anyway, she is better than ever! If anything, she appears to have more energy and stamina. I always felt she was too sedentary but would never say that to her, given what she's been through. But this has been great to see - she's really thriving. She still gets winded coming up to my 3rd floor walk-up apartment, but that's to be expected. It's such a mircacle to see, given where she was 18 months ago.

As for me, I having some struggles but am doing OK. Cooking Suki's first grandbaby (it's a boy!) has proven a little, er, different than expected. I found yesterday that I will have to be on bedrest for 9 weeks, after a month on/off. I'll spare y'all the medical details, but I am now a full-time incubator. Suki has indicated that, although she wishes it didn't have to be this way, she is grateful for an opportunity to take care of me, for a change. I'm just glad she's around to do it. David the Irish is a godsend as well.

So far, we haven't figured out an easy way for me to be on the computer for long period while laying down (I can get up to pee and shower every two days and that's it! OY!) but once we do I hope to be able to hang out here a little more.

I am still doing everything I can for our fabulous NYC walk coming up on May 20, 2007.

Love to all of you, you're always on my mind if not my computer screen.

  5. hi there. I can't help with the medical questions, and I am not here as much as I used to be, but I really wanted to tell you that my mom is a stage IIIb survivor! six years with lung cancer and 18 months since her last surgery, she is cancer-free, working full time, and doing just great. so keep the faith, it is absolutely survivable!!

  6. I love you guys. I just do. wish I could hang out here like I used to. I feel funny posting this here, not LC related, but everyone's asking so here are the baby details:

I am due July 13, 2007 (it's a Friday! yikes!), so I am 15 weeks (about 3.5 months) pregnant as of today. we ARE going to find out the sex, on February 8 (unless the peanut is feeling shy  ). I have been inadvertantly using the male pronoun since we found out we were expecting, all the women in both of our families are predicting a boy, and all three of us (me, Dave and the technician) thought we spotted a little something-somthing on an ultrasound I had earlier this week, but it's too soon to be official. I will NOT be disappointed if it's a girl, I just don't think it its. :D I've had a minor complication from 6 weeks on but so far nothing to worry about (but, of course, I do), it's just something to watch, and the baby is active and growing everytime we check on him (or her) which is what matters. he (she) moves ALOT every time we've had an ultrasound, but I can't feel it just yet. I am really looking forward to that. I had bad nausea (morning sickness, my a&*, it was all day long) for about a month and then it passed, so I feel pretty lucky.

feeling pretty great right about now, though a little tired - I have to learn how to sleep another way since my tummy is no longer an option (it's actually getting a bit bigger now! :)). Dave is adorable, if I do say so myself. he has always used "chicken" as a nickname for me, and now he talks about his two chickens. it's pretty hilarious. we just can't wait to meet him! (or her). thanks for asking, all, of course I will keep you posted.

    xoxo

  7. Hi all! I wanted to pop in and give everyone a little hope injection.

My mama Suki's 6-month scans were clear and beautiful!! The report notes a couple inflamed 'nodes' that have really always been there so it doesn't actually say "NED"...but I like to think of it as my Uncle NED in drag. 8) So mom is 18 months cancer free and a 6+ year survivor of stage II/IIIb lung cancer. What a miracle!!!!

Her Tarceva rash comes and goes, but she finds it bearable (she takes 75mg daily) and she has no other side effects from it. She recently started a new job to supplement her self-employed income and she feels more invigorated than ever!! Suki the One-lung Wonder, indeed!

The doctor said he'd see her in 6 months, and if that scan is clear she'll go on the once-a-year plan, which she is thrilled about. Thinking about scheduling her next appointment around the July 13 due date of her first grandchild produced many grandma-to-be giggles and squeals.

  8. "Don Wood"]I am still here, but probably more in the reading mode than in the responding mode. I do need your thoughts and prayers. You will be in mine. Don

Don, your spirit pervades everything that is amazing about this place, whether you are posting or not. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts, of course.

  9. For what it's worth, my mom's docs specifically discredited any correlation between the rash and Tarceva's effectiveness. My mom has been on it since October 2005 and the rash has come and gone. She continues to be NED (scans tomorrow, actually, but we're all feeling very confident!) She never had AVastin so I can't speak to that aspect of your husband's treatment. Good luck to you!
