  1. for what it's worth, my mom experienced SOB with each 'change' in her treatment, as if she had to adjust to each coming on/going off of medication, etc. for her, slowing down but continuing to move as much as she could manage helped regulate her breathing. I am pretty sure she also used an inhaler for a long time - may still use it. good luck to both of you.

  2. Suki isn't quite a year out from her pneumonectomy, but she describes getting "zapped" and areas of numbness now again, near her scar. I know she had this off and on during the 5 years between her lobectomy and her second surgery. hope you get some relief from it soon.

  3. I signed on today looking for more information about Melissa, I received the notice, too. lit a fire under my butt to work for HER, and for a cure for lung cancer. her story of activism is one of a kind, but her 'cancer story' is too often repeated.

  4. married, I am!! we did it this past Thursday, and spent the weekend with the Irish inlaws. whew. the whirlwind is done, we are so so happy, and the dust is starting to settle.

the mother of bride looked gorgeous, and all the family who knew what she'd been through last year but haven't seen her were stunned at how healthy she is!!

I can't believe I am about to do this, but this place is my family, so I will tell you...we found out 3 weeks before the wedding that

 there will be a baby bunny arriving in July!

can you believe that!? we can't. I have been sick sick sick, but we're just thrilled. we told the parents this weekend, and are slowly leaking it to friends...well, this isn't slow, huh!? broadcasting it on the internet...needless to say, Suki is thrilled.

so there's a heck of an update, huh?

when I get these thank you notes done and we start looking for an apartment with room for a baby, all of my attention will be turned to our May 20, 2006 walk. we have a great committee forming, Joan, I get emails all the time. I'll probably need a cochair in light of these, er, developments, but everyone I've heard from sounds so committed, it's great!

oh, and Pat, you're not getting my emails, girl. I have written you twice in the last month or so! I figured you were up to your eyeballs in fasteners...

    :D:D:D

thanks for missing me. I think of and pray for you all every day, and will try and be around more now that wedding planning is done...

  5. Congratulations! This is the report I came looking for. I can't wait to see the pictures and hear the final tally! Well done, Rich, and everyone else involved!

  6. thanks everyone. no word yet from the doctor, but Suki seems to have a very strong sense that this is all a big load of nothing. she feels a lot better after a round of antibiotics, which suggests that the bug she had was just that. she's also having a bit more of "the rash" than usual, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the Tarceva were acting up a bit in other ways. overall, she feels good and isn't waiting for the results of the sonogram NEARLY as nervously as I am.

as for the wedding plans, since you asked, they are going great. it's shaping up perfectly, in ways I didn't even realize I wanted it to. we're on a budget, whcih means there will be lots of personal touches which I LOVE - friend making cookies, friend and mom making cupcakes in lieu of wedding cake, another friend making boutainnieres [!?] for the guys, etc. we are doing the flowers (simple centerpieces and bouquets) ourselves, as well as all the papergoods. I was nervous about that, but the reaction to the invites has been so positive! and I am really psyched to order 300-400 roses from Costco!

my dress is in, am going with my brother for a fitting next week (he's my "man of honor" and my own, personal Fab Five  ). mom has picked out a beautiful dress for herself, which I can not wait to see her in. Dave has decided to wear a tux, so now all the other guys (our brothers, my father and probably Dave's) are, too. Dave's brother from Chicago will be here, as well as the brother that lives here, and his sisters, parents and aunt and uncle are all coming from Ireland!

my biggest *problem* is that MORE people are coming than I ever imagined, but we're making room for 'em all. GREAT problem to have.

the miracle of Suki's HEALTHY presence in all of this is not lost on anyone (some would also say it's a miracle I am settling down  but that's a whole other thing).

truth be told, I am really looking forward to settling in to married life after all this hecticness has ended.

  7. Hi Beth. I just saw this, haven't been able to get over here for weeks. The walk is postponed to May 19 (I just actually posted it, before I noticed yours) due to my inexperience in planning, as well as some factors beyond my control.

If you're looking for an LCSC get together while you're in town, I'd love to see you for dinner. We could even "go for a walk" if we wanted, in solidarity with the other walkers. I will be 2 weeks away from my wedding day, and will likely need a break! If not, next time you're in town, I hope.

  8. blood work a few weeks ago for a persistant flu-like bug suggested that Suki's liver enzymes were high. in all liklihood, it is a side-effect of the Tarceva, but I know she'd appreciate your prayers and well-wishes.

  9. I suspect your words are true, Lori, you will always miss her but please know that your example of a loving daughter caring for her mother under any and all circumstances changed my life, and my mothers'. I am so sorry for the pain you must be in, and so grateful for what you've shared with us.

    xoxo

  10. This is a heartbreaker. He was a friend to me, in so many ways, and one of the first connections I made here. Grace under fire, in every way.

    so hard.

    xoxo
