  1. Unfortunately, I believe there are many people who don't make it a year from diagnosis. . . young and old. My 49 year old brother lasted 10 months. Not meant to be doom and gloom but there's a whole lot more that needs to be done before the majority of people who have lung cancer can consider it a "chronic illness". I just don't think that's the case at this point in time.
  2. Unfortunately my brother did not have early detection. I believe he started having symptoms over a year before he was diagnosed. We had a family vacation at the beach - he was always a jogger but that summer wasn't jogging anymore because he was too winded. Because he had no risk factors (never smoked, worked in an office), I believe his symptoms were never taken seriously until it was Stage IV, even an xray taken before he was diagnosed did not show the cancer though undoubtedly it was there. Better screening, go for it. . .
  3. Thank you for posting this and remembering all who have lost this battle this past year. My heart aches for all of us.

I'm sure it wasn't intentional. Perhaps the people assigned to pick it up were just too quick.
  5. You are awesome - keep doing what you're doing!

  8. Do what your heart tells you to do. It's such a personal decision - you need to do what you feel is right for you and what you can do. No regrets.
  9. So sorry to hear about your Mom - sounds like she fought a brave battle.

    Mike K

My brother Mike only posted a few times after he was diagnosed but I have been a lurker for the past year. Though I haven't posted, I have read here almost daily. It has been a wonderful source of knowledge and support. Thank you. http://www.legacy.com/Tucson/Obituaries ... D=17409765
