    spending time with my family
  1. Karen, I am so sorry that you have to go through this yet again. I lost my Mom Oct 7th and I am so bitter and angry that cancer took her. Mom also had another brain tumor in the end and if she could have gotten her strengh back she could have had radiation to her brain. Mom also had a tumor in her liver. I pray for you and your family that your Mom gets more time with you and your family and that she is peaceful. Take care of yourself as well. Tammy
  2. I am so sorry. When reading this it reminds me of my Mom to a T. This is going to be a tough time for you but may your Mom go peacefully. Lots of hugs and prayers. Tammy

  4. Hi Karen. I sent you a PM but I am not sure if it worked. Let me know. Tammy
  5. Karen thanks for your reply. I am not sure what medical term the Dr used for the location but its in the back of Mom's head on the right side. If I am reading right you did have surgery? Then you had the stereotactic radiation which is Gamma knife correct? Mom does have mets to her Adrenal gland,Liver, and Lymph nodes in her abdoman. The Dr did not say anything about that and her having surgery what are the reasons that your Dr said that? I hope you don't mind me asking all these questions I am trying to understand all this and help Mom in making her decision. Thanks sooo Much! Tammy
  6. I know alot of you have had brain mets and I need your opinion. Mom has a 1inch tumor in the back of her brain that they gave her 3 choices of how to handle this. Surgery,Gamma Knife,or WBR.. THis is my take on this.If you can remove it..remove it because if she has the radiation she can not have that again. If a new met would show up else where and not be able to have surgery that option is still there. I am not sure how many times Gamma Knife can be performed so any info on that would be great. I just want to know am I thinking right when I say surgery?? That would leave the other treatments for the future if needed??? I don't know our heads are spinning!
  7. If you don't mind me asking does this Alimta treatment cause hair loss? Just wondering...Mom went through chemo almost 2 years ago and she did loose her hair but I know some treatments don't affect it. Thanks!
  8. Thanks for your reply. Mom recieved the B12 shot the other day but had no clue why She is not good with asking questions she just goes with the flow Tammy
  9. Hi there....Mom starts another Chemo treatment on Tuesdays with Altima. The Dr told her that she has to take Folic Acid everyday and a B12 shot every 9 weeks. We are just wondering why? Any info would be great. Tammy

    weight loss

Thanks for all the replies. When Mom went through Chemo she gained weight Yep she was up to 100lbs never in her life has she weighed that. Yes Mom has been this tiny all her life and the Dr was nervous about Chemo but she did well. If this new med don't help I told her to at least try the chemo if you start dropping weight then stop. I pray everyday that she hangs on. I am now getting very angry with this disease what a terrible thing to go through mentally and physically. Mom is still doing everything she did before cancer and she looks good so thats a good thing right? Each day we need to live like its the last day and make everyday count. God bless you all.

    weight loss

Mom has lost a good bit of weight considering she was only 87lbs to begin with. She is now down to 83lbs and the cancer is spreading. My question is what can she eat that will fatten her up? Can she take the weight gainer from the nutriton store? She is now taking an appetite medicine lets hope that will help. She is so upset about the weight loss more than the new about the cancer spreading I just want to try and get her back up. Thanks in advance! Tammy
  12. Heather I am so sorry that Mom is not feeling good. I know how you are feeling..being strong for Mom is hard when you are just breaking down inside. Remember to call me if you ever need someone to talk to. Luv ya girl
  13. Thanks so much for all your replies. Sounds like this is pretty normal after radiation. I guess its been about a year since Mom had radiation done on her chest area then about 4 months maybe on the adrenal gland. I know that she is putting it off because she has gotten good news and is afraid to hear bad. I will make sure I tell her that so many of you experience the same thing. This might sound weird but she sneezes alot and belches quit often does anyone else?
  14. My Mom has been doing well for the past year with having Stage 3B. At the begining she did several rounds of Chemo and had radiation. The cancer then spread to her adrenal gland and more radiation was done. All her CT scans have been coming up good. She has been on Iressa for about 6-7 months and that has kept everything under control. She has been having problems swallowing for the past 2-3 months. There are times when she can eat an do well and other times she said it just feels like the food gets caught and she will cough and sometimes vomit. She talked to her Onc Dr and he gave her Acid Reflux pills to try and if that didn't help he would do the scope down her throat. Has anyone had this problem? I know after radiation she has a rough time swallowing but that healed and she did well till all of a sudden. I am very nervous that the cancer has spread to her throat. She is waiting to talk with the Dr at her next visit in Dec but when dealing with Cancer that to me is not soon enough. Any advise or knowlege would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Tammy
  15. I was wondering if anyone has had this done? Someone asked me if my Mom could have this done because she has stage IIIB. She was told no more radiation she is at her limit so they are trying Iressa to see if that works if not more Chemo. She was in the hospital a few weeks ago for chest pains she thought she was having a heart attack but they said it was Pneumonia but her Oncologist said she didn't see that but she must have had some kind of infection because the antibotic was working. While there they did a CT scan and compared that one to one she had had the month before and it showed a slight increase in the tumor size so we are thinking the Iressa is not doing its job. Mom is feeling great she has never had the coughing or anything its almost don't see real that she has Lung Cancer because there are no symptoms really. Any help on the Cyber Knife would be so helpful. Hugs to you all and god bless! Tammy
