  1. Tomorrow it will be 10 years ago that Henk was diagnosed. The dx was Pancoast tumor, adeno, stage IIIB. Inoperable. His doctors thought Henk wouldn’t survive. They advised against a (possible curative) chemo/radiation treatment, because the chances of survival were very small and the chemo and radiation treatment would be very severe. Also, they thought that Henk might be too old to survive the treatment. However, Henk decided he had to try. The treatment was very severe indeed. But he survived not only the treatment, but also the LC. At the moment, Henk (81y) has some health problems, but these problems are not LC related. The input and support we had from this LC forum was very important. It’s here that we found some HOPE. Here we learned that a pneumonia vaccination exists. This was very important for us because at the time Henk had pneumonia several times a year. It’s here that we learned a lot of other things about LC, possible treatments, medication etc. We thank you, Katie, and all the other people who work and worked to keep this forum on the internet! Henk and Ellen.

  5. Thanks everyone! Today we are celebrating 5 years since dx. Five years ago, Henk docs gave him 6-12 months at most. Ellen.
  6. Henk had his 6 month chest X-ray today. All clear, NED. The doctor congratulated him and said is't highly unlikely that the LC will come back. It's 4 year and 9 month since diagnosis and 4 year and 4 month since last LC treatment. Thank you all for your support! Ellen.

Rochelle, I'm so very sorry! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Ellen.
  16. Lisa, I don't know about adrenal glands, but Henks CT-scan said that his liver was 'suspicious for mets'. The PET scan didn't confirm this (he had both scans before dx) and the docs ordered some extra tests for the liver. They said it was important to know if the liver was involved, because the treatment would be different. It's good to have a second opinion about surgery. But even if it's inoperable, there still is hope. Henks dx was more than two years ago and he is doing well without surgery! Henk was on oxycontin before the radiation. But after the radiation, the pain was gone. Ellen.
  17. Can't your mum have radiation for pain relief?
  18. Hello Michelle. Several people here with pancoast. Henk is one of them. He's inoperable b/c 3 vertebrae are involved. He was in severe pain before the chemo/radiation treatment, but after 2 weeks of radiation the pain was gone. Ask the doc about the radiation! Ellen.
  19. Linzy, Welcome! I think it's a good idea to have a second opinion. If you have questions about the availability of Tarceva in the UK, you can ask Deanne (user-name JenkazMrs). She also has a website: http://www.lc-action4life.co.uk Ellen.

  22. Welcome Charlotte! My friend also has a pancoast tumor. He's stage IIIB. He (and his docs!) also thought that he had a pulled muscle. This board is wonderful. Lots of info and support here. I see Kasey has posted already. She has helped us a lot! Ellen.
