  1. Hi, tim has been on Tarceva for about 4 months, and the results have been good. Tim's side effects include a rash all over his face which sometimes erupts, and sometimes is virtually non existent, and just last week spread to his neck; diarreha, and slow hair growth (which I didn't realize was a side effect until I read the replys to your post!) He was on 150 but got reduced to 100 due to earlier side effects (rash all over his body and fever) Sandra
  2. jen, I am so sorry to hear what your father and your family is going through. Although my father didn't have lung cancer, I watched him go through the stages of uncurable melanoma. You have so much love to give him, and that's what he needs right now. Be with him, and love him..... My prayers are with your father, you and your family. Sandra
  3. Hi, Sorry I didn't give more information - I tried to update the profile, but it didn't take. Tim was operated on in August 2005 to take out the tumor that appeared on the CAT scan. When they got in they say multiple b b sized tumors on his lung lining (same lung as primary tumor), and didn't take anything out because he would need chemo anyway with the multiple locations, hence the Stage 4. Fast forward to now - no change in the "spots" on the lining, so the Dr. says they may just be scar tissue, because the main tumor has shown reduction over the last year. The Dr. is not keen on surgery, but says radiation may be a possiblity if he sees more shrinkage, however he is very happy with what the tarceva/avastin is doing and wants to continue with that. I have always thought that if you can have surgery, it is the best thing to do, hence my question..... Any thoughts/opinions/suggestions? Sandra wu
  4. Hi, I have a question for you all. should we push for surgerical removal if drugs are shrinking the tumor? What's the next step? I want to be aggressive, and I've always thought that surgical removal is best, but if the drugs are working, do we continue on that or push for surgery? I'd love your thoughts, advice, results that you've had on this issue thank you for your help! Sandra

  7. Dear Carleen, I am crying as I read your post. Although I have never met you, through your posts I can see what a truly compassionate, loving person you are, and my heart breaks for what you are going through. I have never seen such devoted love in a couple. I know I can't offer you much, but please know you both are in my prayers - now and in the future. Sandra

    Thomas Parkinson

Malou, I haven't been on the site for a few weeks, and then I read this. I am so sorry to hear this news. Thomas put up a strong fight, and you were such a great supporter of him and for him. Please know you are in my prayers...... Sandra
  9. I just want to say thank you for sharing. It was beautiful and inspirational. Sandra
  10. Hi, tim has the "rash" and went on the tectracycline, but had to stop as he got a fever and a rash all over the body - they stopped both the Tarceva and the tectracyline, since they didn't know which one caused it. Fast forward, he's now on Tarceva again (100mg instead of 150), has the "rash", but is tolerating it. His oncologist said his patients had seen some relief with using Head and Shoulders on their face..... right now he uses Eucerin, and likes it - but that's really for the dryness. We keep speaking of the talk that if you have the rash, it's working..... check out www.practicaltruisms.com - a woman who found a routine that worked for her while on Tarceva - it may help. Good luck to you..... Sandra
  11. Adela, count on my prayers Sandra
  12. Hello to all, Tim get's his test results tomorrow with his new oncologist - PET scan, MRI, bone scan - very intensive testing, which according to his new oncologist will allow him to have a starting point of his own to treat Tim. Please pray with me for good results! Thank you and bless you all. Sandra
  13. Hello all, I haven't posted in awhile - it's been crazy around here!!! Last update was Tim had a liver ultrasound, and it was negative. His oncologist in Columbus did however take him off Tarceva due to the body rash, fever and increased levels from the urine test. Meanwhile, Tim and the 2 boys drove from Columbus Ohio to Sandpoint Idaho last week, stopping at Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone. We see a new oncologist tomorrow so hopefully we can start on the Tarceva again. A little scared though, because this morning when he coughed, he had a little tinge of blood. Just how it started. The only other thing is that he's had bloody sinus's since starting chemo, so we're hoping that has something to do with it. He is feeling well though - went skiing on Saturday.... Just wanted to update you all - I'll let you know what the new oncolgist says. Thanks for being there....... God Bless you all Sandra
  14. Diane, I am sorry you had to find us, but glad you have joined this amazing group of passionate, supportive people. It's great news that your mom was able to have surgery, and there is a lot of information on the benefits of having chemo post surgery to knock out any miniscule cancer cells that are floating around. I would encourage that path. Anyway, you will be in my thoughts and prayers for positive results! Sandra
  15. tim's liver ultrasound was fine - they think it was the tetracycline, so he's off it now - he also has an infection in his eye, but who knows what that was from. I just wanted to thank you all for the prayers and support - one hurdle over, and waiting to tackle the others as they come!!!!! I am so glad you all are here for support. Sandra

    question

hi, Tim's nose would bleed, and still does - the oncologist said it was partly due to loss of nose hair, so all the "stuff" that is usually blocked by the hairs is going in. Tim's also had a procuedure done by an ENT (ear/nose/throat specialist) that sealed the open places in his nose. I don't know/understand the particulars, but if you're interested I'll get the specifics. He was an assistant to the surgeons before his diagnosis, so he was confident with having them do it. Let me know if you need particulars Sandra

    I'm scared

yes, he stopped the tetracycline yesterday - he only took the morning pill, and didn't take it last night. He says he feels a little better, but the rash is still there. The waiting is so hard.......

    I'm scared

Hi, I am so scared, and feel like I don't know what's going on!!!!Tim's been running a fever for the last few days, and has a rash all over his body. This all started to occur when he started tetrocycline. He got blood work and it was fine, but his liver functions are way high, and the doctor wants him to have a liver ultrasound tomorrow. Can this mean the cancer has spread? It is a reaction to the tetracyline? to the tarceva? I am so scared - I need prayers and advice please...... Sandra
  19. More prayers coming your way..... Sandra
  20. Hi Lisa, I am with those that have responded already. Your and Leah's situation has upset me greatly, as Tim is a non smoker, and we are trying to keep a positive attitude for the children. They know he has lung cancer, but as you, we don't talk about death. Call the principal, the superintendent, whomever. Someone needs to be made aware, and insure it doesn't happen again!
  21. What wonderful news! Cheers to you!
  22. Rich, YOU JUST MADE MY DAY!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't been online for a few days, but this news is keeping a smile on my face! Congratulations - and keep that great news coming - it's bring hope and joy to all of us! Sandra
  23. Sandy, I am so sorry for your loss. I will pray for you and your family to be comforted during this time. Sandra
  24. Lisa, I am so sorry for all the struggles you're going through. I want you to know that you are in my prayers. Sandra
