  1. Hi Lindy Welcome! My dad is going through the same thing. He was diagnosed in November and they did the whole brain radiation. The plan was to do chemo after the radiation to the head. But the radiation to my dad’s tumors did not do anything at all (which the doctors say is really rare) so they have decided not to do any chemo at all and just work with medication and Palliative care. My dad was of the same thought and did not initially want chemo but was willing to try one session before we found out that it was not possible. When I originally spoke to my Dad about trying the chemo I told him about how far advances have come that chemo is not as bad as it used to be and that they have all kinds of new meds to counter act symptoms. This helped and he was willing to try it. So don’t give up! Trish
  2. I'm sorry for your loss my heart goes out to you
  3. Thanks everyone I have kept them up to date on what is going on with their gradpa it's more trying to explain to them what it will be like while we are there. My dad seems to be having more problems everyday My mom said it is like he has Alzheimer’s. I want to prepare them as they know what is happening to him but at the same time I don't want to scare them buy telling them about things that may happen while they are there. He does have some lucid periods where he is not confused. But I am going to go with everyone else on this I think it is better to tell them what may happen so they are prepared. This has been hard on the kids as he was doing really well last month and has just gone way downhill. I have not posted much on this site but have read alot and I want to thank everyone for the support.
  4. Hi guys I need some advice. My dad is doing much worse they don’t expect him to survive much longer and he has requested that we come visit him. (we are very far away). I am traveling back home to Ottawa Can to see them on Feb 2 and the rest of my family is coming on Feb 8. My question is with my dad there are multiple brain lesions that are causing confusion and I’m unsure how the kids (14 and 12) will deal with it. They love their grandpa he has been a large part of their lives. How do you explain to them what is happening. I have told them that he gets confused some times but I don’t think they understand. I don’t want them to be surprised when they get there.
  5. I am new here too and when I read your post I was thinking how much we have in common. My Dad was just diagnosed with LC and we live on different coasts I flew and am here now. I try not to cry to much in front of my parents and am trying real hard to be strong for them.
  6. Hi my name is Trish and we just found out my dad has NSCLC that has metastasized to his brain. He is stage IV and just getting ready to start his first radiation treatments for the brain lesions. Then in January he will be starting chemo. This has been really difficult for my family as he just turned 60 and is in great health. It is really strange as he has no real symptoms he only had a couple of episodes of strange lights in his vision and told mom who works at the hospital for a neurologist. Mom then told her doctor in passing and the neurologist brought him in that day for a checkup and we found the tumors in his brain and that they were secondary cancer. A few tests later we were told that he has a primary tumor in his right lung that is an area that is inoperable. I flew in to be here to help my parents as my mom and dad are having a difficult time with this. They live in Ottawa and I am out in San Jose. I am still in a state of disbelief that this is happening I keep hoping that all these doctors have made a mistake or that I’ll wake up and it will all be a dream. Trish
