  8. My sister went to palliative care for pain relief. It wasn't because she was giving up, but becaused she needed her pain under control. They managed to get it under control and she was discharged home. Hope all goes well with you. Sincerely, Kelly
  9. Welcome Sue and best of luck to you and your husband. From another Freedom member, Kelly (headbo at Freedom) and Kim's sister (kito at Freedom).
  10. Hi Jen- I quit smoking March 7, 2002 cold turkey when my sister was diagnosed. I just told myself I could smoke if I wanted to, but that I didn't want to. And then I thought to myself, if I was going to smoke, I would have done it yesterday. Just quit for one day at a time. Quitting forever seems like an eternity that is impossible. Just tell yourself in the morning I'm not going to smoke today and pat yourself on the back before going to bed for not smoking. It worked for me. Day 4 was the hardest. YOU CAN NEVER HAVE JUST ONE or you will never get past withdrawal. Visit www.whyquit.com for support. Good Luck, Kelly
  11. Deb- The last time I heard from him was at midnight last night. I haven't had a response to my latest e-mail. He must be running out of wise cracks. Not surprising though, he isn't too swift. If I do hear from him, I will e-mail him right back. I am determined he isn't going to have the last word. Do I have too much time on my hands? (lol) Kelly
  12. I just can't help myself, here is the latest e-mail exchange: HIS RESPONSE TO ME: Nothing is more obnoxious and useless that a reformed anything - smoker, drinker, prostitute, etc. You're all pathetic. Me, I'm an ex cigarette smoker, but not a reformed one. I have no desire to be that ignorant or prissy. MY RESPONSE TO HIM: Good comeback. The good old "reformed smoker line." If you are an "ex-smoker", then why are you such an advocate for smoking? You're the obnoxious one.
  13. HERE IS THE E-MAIL EXCHANGE: Now why don't you post a chart of all the businesseses that are doing better because of the smoking ban? Obviously you are a smoker. HIS REPLY: It would be a very, very short list. And everyone on it could improve their business *without* laws that kill other business. Obviously you are a nicotine nanny. AND MY REPLY TO HIM: I use to be a full fledged smoker for over 25 years. I quit two years ago, but I do know how smokers think and you definitely think like a smoker ( I used to think that way too) Until you get off your addiction, you have no idea what I am talking about. I'd rather be a nicotine nanny than a nicotine ninny. regards
  14. I just e-mailed him and told him to post a chart of all the business that were doing better because of the smoking ban. Can't wait to see his response to my e-mail. - What a jerk. Kelly
  15. My sister is starting Iressa next week. Our government will cover the costs as long as she starts it before the end of April. (sounds like a trial here right now). If she started it after the end of April, apparently it costs $2,000.00 a pill. She went to her onc about 3 weeks ago and he had to get approval from the govenment and she has been approved. Just praying now that it will work. Kelly
  16. Sorry to hear about the brain met. My sister went through it last year. I would recommend GET IT OUT, followed by radiation. Good Luck to you. Kelly
  17. I've read a lot of info on G-Vax, but can't find out if it is offered in Canada anywhere. Does anyone know? It would certainly appear to be worth the try. Kelly
  18. Hi Sis- Glad you finally came to check this site out. It is most helpful and encouraging. Kelly

    Brain Mets Again

I see I wasn't signed in with my first post. oops Thank you for your replies. My sister has an appointment with the nuerosurgeon who took out her first tumor to see if the 2 new ones are removable. She has also been referred to another doc who specializes in spot radiation. Would spot radiation be "gamma knife"? I will be sure to ask when we go see him. Has anyone ever had to make this choice? What would you choose? From what I have read, gamma knife would appear to be the best option, but I guess I'd like to hear from you what your opinion is. Thanks again, Kelly
  20. Oops. I messed up my signature. It is corrected below. Kelly
  21. Dear Survivors: I thought I should finally post to introduce myself. I come to this site daily to find both courage and hope and to see how everyone is doing. As everyone here knows, it is a major roller coaster ride that never ends. Visit my sister's website and you will see her whole story. Her story is online in an attempt to help people realize the dangers of smoking and to help them quit. I must admit that I feel I know everyone here although you don't know me. My prayers are with each and everyone of you and I wish everyone nothing but good news this New Year. Sincerely, Kelly
  22. Hi Christina -- My sister quit smoking cold turkey the day she was diagnosed with lung cancer. I quit cold turkey that same day - March 7th, 2002 and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I do have another friend who was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in October 2001. She has undergone chemo and also has had radiation to her head for prevention. She is in remission right now and just has checkups. She never quit smoking, smoked during chemo and still smokes to this day. I honestly think Chris knows more than anyone that he needs to quit smoking, but I don't think all the nagging in the world will help. It is a decision only he can make and he has to do it for himself. Hopefully, he will come to his senses soon. Good luck! Kelly
  23. Natalie My sister had her whole left lung removed in April of 2002. She then developed a brain tumour in December of 2002. The tumor was surgically removed in January of 2003. She then underwent whole brain radiation for two weeks. She went every day for 2 weeks for a total of 10 sessions. Just a little info on how my sister was treated. Kelly
