  1. Hi Amanda, My mom has had bloody noses (although probably not as severe as you're talking about) from the Tarceva (at least we think) and also a blood taste in her mouth. These side effects are getting better. I'm with the previous poster in thinking he'll feel much better in a few days. Hang in there!!!
  2. Hey everyone! I haven't posted in a while, but I still read here quite a bit. Mom's cancer has unfortunately turned into bony metastatic disease and her care is now palliative, but she feels and looks great. Hopefully she still has a lot of time left. Several things have really been helping her, and I thought I would pass them along. She's using a cream called Cetaphil for her Tarceva rashes, and they are all but gone the next day after a breakout. Her husband used it for skin cancer chemo several years ago and got it for her. She had severe neuropathy that is all but gone because of this machine from Homedics. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009 ... ZZZZZZ.jpg Sorry for the URL, the IMG function didn't work for me. Anyway, I hope this helps a few of you who are suffering side effects. Have a great day!!
  3. Mom said she watched a special on it tonight and it was SCLC. I just figured it had to be as aggressive as it was. As far as smoking goes... My mom was a smoker (not anymore!) and had/has adenocarinoma and her best friend was a smoker and has SCLC. Doesn't seem to be very discriminating.
  4. I've been looking for the answer to this question all day. God bless their little son.
  5. Hi Meghan, it's really inspiring to read about your mom. I'm so glad you're able to breathe deeply again.
  6. I'm glad everything went okay and you're home! My mom was in a lot of pain for a while but we're three weeks out and she sounds spunky again. Hang in there!!
  7. Trish, it's so awesome to hear you were re-staged like that. I hope the Taxotere blows out that cancer!!
  8. This is a new term for me, which is amazing considering how much I read about lung cancer. (not that I'm an expert or anything.. I've just read to exhaustion since mom's diagnosis as I'm sure many of you have) I tried to google it but the info out there is a little vague and weird. Could someone point me to further reading?
  9. I hope everything went okay (((hugs)))
  10. Mhutch, that's just Exactly the thing I like to hear... It's nice to read your progression and see you're doing so well. We found out today that mom's best friend (mom is 50, friend is 51) has SCLC. (( They think her heart is involved. She went to the ER with chest pains last week.
  11. Wow, I didn't think this got posted either. Weird. I was having lots of trouble with just this site at home but it's working just fine at work. I was worried that maybe my comment about Essiac might have been frowned upon, but I see there's a whole forum dedicated to alternative therapies. This place Rocks.
  12. Thanks again you all! Maryanne, grats to Joel for completing the 5 mile walk, not even sure I could do that right now! The site seems to be having a little technical difficulty this morning... Oh hey, those of you who've had experience with Taxotere... Is hair loss pretty much a certainty? I guess it's really the least of our worries, but her pretty hair was just starting to grow back.
  13. I posted a thread in here last night and had several nice replies, but it's gone this morning. Was it something I said? Oh well, hi again all and thanks for the support.
  14. Hi Cindi!! Thank you so much for the quick response. We're in Northwest Arkansas, you'd think it would be bad re: medical care but actually her surgeon and oncologist rank as some of the best in the state. I'm hoping it's cutting edge... I've been giving her Essiac tea, so I'm down with anything experimental that just might work, you never know...
  15. I am so excited to have found this place, I've been reading in here for several hours and I'm astounded by the wealth of information. This site is a blessing right now. My mom was diagnosed with stage IIIA lung cancer last fall. So far she's been through 6 rounds of chemo (cisplatin and v-16), 6 weeks of radiation and a lobectomy around 3 weeks ago. Next Wednesday they're hitting her with another round of chemo, Taxotere this time. They also may try brachytherapy with Iridium 192. I'm hoping it will be easier on her, but with the potential neuropathy and bone aches it sounds like it might just be a whole different kind of pain. I hope not. Anyway, *waves and big hugs* to you all.
