  1. Hi Deb, I'm glad you found us, but I'm sorry you had to. We're here to help you. The first week or so after being diagnosed is a confusing, roller coster and strenuous time on your nerves and body. Everyone here will tell you to ask all the questions you can. What type of cancer is it? What can I expect from the treatment? What treatment can I expect? If Chemo, what kind? What side effects? If radiation? How many treatments? Having a lobectamy tells me they caught it early and it's not small cell (I could be wrong). Doc thinks he can get it from surgery. Probably following up with chemo/radiation. Your body will change. This is a life changing experience. Don't read any of the statistics. You be your own statistic. The one that goes into remission, lives a long happy life and can help others who have gone through the same. OH, don't forget to ask God for a little help. You'd be surprised. All the best to you and your friend. Love, Darrell
  2. Hi Jill, I'm very sorry to hear about your mom. I can tell you that I had radiation to my hip and it helped with the pain. I wasn't able to walk and after 14 treatments and a few weeks for it to kick in, I was up and doing laps around the city park (1 mile). The radiation takes time to kick in though so be patient. Don't worry about the 1 year thing the doc said. He gave me 6-8 months. I'm still going strong. If you need anything, just yell! Darrell
  3. Hi Laurie! Keep us posted!! Thinking of you! Darrell
  4. Hi Morgan. Sorry you had to find us. While I was reading your post, I felt the sense of frustration in your writing. Even though you can only help on the weekends, you're still helping. Don't feel badly about not being able to get off from work. I can relate to that. I hope that her treatment is more effective than just a few extra months. Let us know how things are progressing. Big hugs! Darrell
  5. Some great advise already Sis. Run with it. Go out west and take care of business!!! Best of luck and I pray your trip is fruitful. Darrell
  6. Hi Sue! I know of ONC docs who only want people to do trials. It makes them look good to the ONC community. I believe we need trials. Absolutely. But who does them should be completely voluntary. You do what's right to YOU. Additionally, I see alot of folks here telling others to get a second opinion. In your case, I would do just that. Find another ONC and see what he/she has to say. Keep us posted. Glad you found us. Darrell
  7. Hi Tracy! There is some great advice already on the forum for you. I hope everything works out well. We're praying for you! Darrell

    MRI ? My Time

I agree totally with Carleen. The MRI is much more precise than an eye exam. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Darrell
  13. Hi Troy! A Navy man here myself. Ahoy. Sorry you had to find us, but I'm glad you did. Radiation and chemo at the same time.... I went through that. That was the most trying time of this whole ordeal for me. I had absolutely NO energy. I had to will myself to eat for all I wanted to do was sleep. Keep her hydrated as much as you can. Milk shakes are great for her right now. She may not like the taste of things she enjoyed before. Be patient with her. Of all of the things going through your head, she has the same feelings as well as the non stop pain. But never stopping her love for you because of it. Even if she can't tell you. We're here for you. Darrell
  14. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.
  15. Tell you what. I know too that it can come back. But as long as I keep doing things like eating right, sleeping enough, not drinking, taking my vitamins, drinking my NASTY green tea, abstain from smoking and trusting in the man upstairs, I'll be fine. ohhhhhh almost forgot, not letting my neuropathy drive me nuts!!! grrrrrrr!!! LOL
  16. Welcome!! Don't listen to that statistic! They told me 6-8 months. I'm still here. Cancer free and doing great!! Makes me mad when I hear docs saying that. Keep us posted. Darrell

  19. Hi Angela. Doc wouldn't do surgery on me either after I went into remission. I wish it were out of me, but I every day I thank that man upstairs that he's given me another day. Your mom is a fighter who is loved by many. She's incredibly lucky to have someone like you supporting her. She knows that. Keep it up because she needs that. Darrell
