  1. My prayers to the whole family. On another note, has your doc tried clonadine in combination with the gabapentin? Our pain clinic anesthetists use it with good success. Something to research and inquire about.

    Best wishes,

  2. Andrea,

Thanks for thinking of us. Mother's day is the hardest day of the year for me. My Mom passed away three days after Mother's day 2003. That year she gave me a present, earrings..... she said I had been a Mom to her through her journey with cancer. I was honored to be able to give back to her what she had given me. Give your Mom a hug for me and enjoy the day!

  3. Hi,

My Mom's experiences with the Canadian health care system were different from some of our American counterparts. Although, we don't pay for many of the treatments and tests as our south of the border friends do, I found our "wait times to treatment" were significantly longer. Also, the doctors seemed less eager to do tests unless symptoms dicated a strong reason. Often I had to really push the Onc, and really highlight the symptoms in order to get tests done. I agree with everyone else that I'd persue another opinion and find a doctor who is willing to fight.

  4. Hi,

The "R" drug they gave him may have been reglan. Check out this link. http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/reg1369.htm .

Sometimes adding dexamethasone helps the zofran to work. Another drug like Zofran is Kytril. Unfortunately it sometimes takes trial and error to find what works well. I work in an operating room with anesthesia, and we find that what works well for one, does not necessarily work for another. Be persistant with your call to the oncs untill you find what works. If it continues on, you may need a trip to the ER. We did that with my mom, and they were able to get the nausea and vomitting under control faster using IV meds.

  5. Hi Gang,

Heard from Amy this morning. Here's what she wrote:

I am at work right now, but got a call that an ambulance was called for him last night. He was admitted to the hospital for severe dehydration. He has IV fluids. His remaining lung is very congested and he is still very weak. I will update as I know more. Thanks Fay for your help!!

Prayers for Amy and a quick recovery for dad.

  6. Amy,

A test you can do to test for dehydration is for his girlfriend to pinch your dad's skin between her fingers. Have her do it on his hand or tummy. If the skin stays up for a bit he is dehydrated. If he is not, the skin will rebound back down. Tell her to try it on her own hand first to gauge the response. Perhaps if he has a visual of dehydration, he will be willing to go get IV fluids. My Mom always bounced back quickly after fluids.

I hope I explained that clearly!!! It is harder to describe than to do!

  7. Cheryl, Just checked in today after a few days away and was saddened to hear your news. Hope by now you have the fighting spirit back, I know you can overcome this bump in your journey, remember you have Jack and all of us along side you. Hope you went out and spent some time with your horses, they always have a healing, comforting affect on me!

You will be in my thoughts and prayers as always.
