Just wanted to write and let you know that I can relate on the big family thing and yet my husband and I always do things for my Dad virtually on our own. I would not have any less part in my Dad's treatment anyway, and I know you would not have it any other way with your Dad either. We both seem to be the strong ones in our families. Just know that, as he was in life, your Dad is soo proud of how your are still "handling" things for him in your special way. Hang in there Katie, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Tracy: So glad your Dad is done with his radiation! Hope all continues to go well for you and your family. I am up right now(4:30 am) thinking about my own Daddy who is battling this monster, just like yours and know how you feel. Remember, we are not alone and hang in therer@

Heather: Saw your post and reminded me of me alot. I am in same position with my dad(51years old). He has completed 5 0f 6 scheduled chemos, but has tolerated them wonderfully(so far). He says he is feeling stronger everyday! I too am very active in his care/treatment and know the mental toll it can take(on anti-depressants myself). Please feel free to post to me or PM me anytime. Dad will receive his next two sessions as scheduled and then will be re-scanned after 6th one. I asked doc what was plan after that and she said she will see him every month and re-scan every two months. I don't know if this is aggresive enough, what do you guys think. Remember Dad has small cell(extensive) and this can greow VERY rapidly. Onc seemed very positive today and commented that my Dad looked good, he loved that being the lady's man that he thinks he is LOL. I was wondering if I should ask doc about possible radiation ect... or maintenance chemo after short break from this initial one. Just wanted to share this good news and hopefully get some answers at the same time. Have not been on for a while, but thought I would report some really encouraging news. My Dad is feeling sooooooo much better. He has finished 3 0f 6 scheduled chemo rounds and is fishing off the Jersey Coast as I type. He is not even napping during the day as he feels so much better. I am convinced that the chemo is working and will meet with the doctor on Monday along with my Dad for his 4th round of chemo to begin. Hoping for good scans soon, but thought I would share. He is looking better then he has in months and feels it too!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love, Kelleyu PS. Taking him to the Philadelphia Phillies game tomorrow!

Hi all: Went to oncology appt with dad on Monday to get results of most recent cat scan taken previous Thursday of lung/liver. We met with the nurse practitioner, as the doc was on rounds. The report showed mixed results. One lesion smaller, two slightly bigger. Here is the question: they are comparing this recent cat scan with the initial one that diagnosed the spots on liver/lung, which was taken sometime in early April. My dad did not start chem until May 8th. It is my understanding that this kind of cancer grows very quickly and that it probably grew atleast some during the iterim between when the inital scan was taken in April and starting chemo(a good 5 weeks.) So, couldn't the two that have grown slightly really have shrunk some as compared to what they might have looked like on May 8th when my dad actually started chemo? At first they said they were going to re-evalute my dads reports/films and wait a whole week to start a new chemo. I said I was not comfortable with waiting a whole week(dad agreed) and that I wanted the doc to call me. When she did she said they had infact decided that the vp-16 and carboplatin was working and that my dad should resume his regular course of chemo the next day. He currently receives chemo every three weeks, for a three day period and has had little problems. Sorry I am ranting here, but I need some of you who have been through this to please write me back. Also, my dad had a bump on his leg and it was ruled benign(good news, I guess). Thanks for listening to me rant, glad I have you guys.

Just wanted to say congrats on your good news and just noticed that you are from philly. I grew up in philly and my dad, who has small cell still lives there along with all of my family. What part are you from or should I say neighborhood, since all of us philadelphians knows that is what matters LOL. Wishing you continued success with your treatment. Write me back if you like.

Jennifer: Just wanted to say welcome and let you know that the two of us have alot in common. I am 34, my dad was just diagnosed with extensive small cell in May and just finished second round of chemo. He has mets to liver and hip. So far, so good, keeping my fingers crossed. I also have a younger sister(29) whose name is you guessed it Jennifer. I am the oldest and as such am the one who has to be the liason among alot of people, my parents have been seperated since I was 3, but still see each other, even though dad has a girlfriend(go figure). We are taking this one day at a time like you said and yes, this board is a God send. If you like send me an email at Kelleyu@comcast.net. Where are you from and where is your mom being treated. My dad is from Philly and is being treated at Hospital of the University of Penn. They said no for radiation with extensive and was wondering your mom's doctor's rationale. Write back and hang in there.

Sam: I think you should focus on the good news and the rest will take care of itself, keep posting and we will all keep you in our positive thoughts.

Just wanted to welcome you to this board. You have come to the right place, we all feel better after we find it! Try not to worry too much, we are all in this together. My dad was just diagnosed with extensive stage small cell last month and began chemo two weeks ago. So far, so good, but I am still in shock and yes do get your wife on here, we would love to be able to give her the support she will need so much from people who truly know what she is feeling. Hi Carleen: Thanks for writing me back. I love hearing from everyone on this board. Went with dad today to oncologist for check up. He started first round of chemo last monday and so far(keep your fingers crossed)has had little if any reactions. Dr. said to look out for fevers this week. Will start second round week of june 2nd. Actually feels little better and liver was less palpable today(good I think). I am just sooo heart sick over this whole thing and HATE to see my dad go through any of this. Nice to know am not alone and told dad today that he is never ALONE in this and made him cry(good cry) I think. Thanks for listening. PS liver function is good too according to latest blood tests!

Linda: I am very sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis. I too am going through a similar situation with my dad(51) and SCLC just diagnosed. This site is a WONDERFUL support for us. Take it one day at a time and keep reading and posting. You and your family are in my prayers.
