    Catfish

    Enjoy this beautiful fall weekend.
  3. Fine friends Fantastic family
  4. Heather, After Earl's lung surgery the scans showed some fluid in his chest, doctors words - they never said plueral effusion or whatever. They acted like it was the most natural thing in the world and it has shrunk.
  5. Dearest Norme, I, too, did not want to open your post, but care about you and your Buddy too much to have bypassed it. I am so sorry about the bad news, but so glad the doctors are saying, 'Ok let's see what we do now'. Every day that goes by may allow some research doctor to go WOW, I've got it, it works. My heart and prayers are with you and Buddy.
  6. Hey Heather, Some of us live on the better side of the Delaware (HaHa). Seriously, we live right outside of Phila and I think there are a few others. Keep us in mind with whatever you are doing.
  7. Please accept my deepest sympathy on the lose of your wonderful Mother.
  8. Andrea, My husband is stage IV - one brain met, one 1cm and change tumor in upper right lobe and some lymph node involvement. You can read his treatment below. The doctors have never said this was terminal and the only doctors that have given us stats have said he has a 30 to 40& cure rate. I'd like higher but I'll take that. We move forward slowly, his body has been abused. We have just started the 3 month cycle of scans and appts. Good luck
  9. Peggy, Earl had 3 taxotere treatments early this summer. He had to take some steroid the day before, the day of and the day after. The infusion only took one hour but he had to give blood and meet with the doctor, so it took the best part of 1/2 a day. He tolerated it very well. He doesn't think so but he never reads any of the posts here or anything about lc. He has no idea how some of you have had bad side effects from chemo. He felt nauseous for a few days and he was TIRED. Good luck
  10. Prayers heading up. Also, guys, please include Earl, he has his MRI this afternoon and his CT scan Friday morning.

    Tim- Hospice

Dear Kathy, So often on this board I wish I had a magic 'cure' wand. This is one rotten disease. I am so sad about Tim's condition. Take each day as a miracle. Hold each other, talk about the wonderful times, love each other. One of the biggest surprises I had as an adult was that life wasn't fair. I expected hard, but I also expected fair. Anybody reading the posts here would know that life is far from fair. You and Tim will be continued in my prayers, especially you Kathy, this must be extremely hard.
  12. From what I know of Judy B. I thought she would be running laps by now. I am so glad to hear the good news. Is their a dx on the mass on her spine? Will she do chemo? Tell her to keep up the good work.

    Ada Waddell

Dear Friends, Jim Waddell just called me and told me the very sad news that Ada died today. She had fought a long and courageous fight. I never met Ada in person but we had become phone buddies. How do you love a person you never met - I don't know, but I sure loved Ada. She was so wise and so kind. She had started a clinical trial recently - just hoping for remission. Jim said that she couldn't have her second treatment because of low blood counts and had to be hospitalized a couple of times. All of her family was with her. Ada told me everytime we talked that her Jim was the best man ever. She passed way too young. But, I believe that she left an everlasting part of herself in the heart of anyone who knew her. She fought hard, but Jim said that she was at peace. We know she is in heaven talking to God about all of her friends here on the board. I am now talking to God to grant her family comfort and peace. I love you Ada.
  14. Mo, Get Ensure Plus, packed full of vitamins etc and is 360 calories. Try it cold or at room temp. I used to put vanilla ensure and chocolate ice cream in a blender for Earl. He thought it was great. There are medicines you can take before eating to numb the esophagus. I think they only work for a few minutes so you have to eat quickly, but you don't want to lose any more weight. You have to maintain your strength to get treatments.
  15. Jack, Wonderful news. Remember, pain pills and pillows.

    Vocal Cords

Annie, Earl had a paralyzed vocal cord from his tracheostomy. We also had to meet with an oto'rhino'laryncologist two times. There was one that specialized in paralyzed vocal cords. Fortunately it has basically recovered although when he is tired his voice gets weak. Glad it went well for Tim.

    Update on Lucie

NORMAL ROUTINE Just about the best words in the world. I am soooooooooooooooooooo happy for the both of you. Continued Normal Routine.
  18. Absolutely true, how to stay young really describes my credo. Thank you.
  19. To Judy's Wonderful Daughters, Judy is in my prayers and in my heart to help get her through this surgery with minimal pain and discomfort and maximum success.
  20. The surprise was absolutely overwhelming. On Friday night 30 members of our family were there from all over the country. How absolutely wonderful. Of course we thought that was all there was - but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. We were going back to our daughters on Sat afternoon, we thought just to visit with the family. When we got there, there were over 50 of our friends in addition to the family. Our three kids had planned all of this. They 'stole' my telephone book that I keep in Excel and invited everybody there. Fortunately, I keep a personnal and a business book or the dry cleaner and milkman would have been there. The children requested donations towards a cruise instead of gifts. As soon as Earl finishes his upcoming scans and follow ups we are going to plan and schedule this cruise. By the way, the parties were twofold - one to celebrate my 6oth birthday which was awhile ago but Earl was not well enough (By the way, that number is a secret) and two to celebrate how well Earl is recovering. The joy of seeing how many people care about us was absolutely overwhelming. Earl (like a typical man) is somewhat emotionless has been very (compared to usual) emotional about this. Now we are praying for good scans.

    Judy B

Judy is a very important and loved member of our board. There will be many, many prayers being said for a successful surgery. Please let her know she is in our hearts.
  22. Can these courses be taken online?
  23. Hi everyone, Earl is doing well, still has the dizzies and some fatigue but he seems to go forward two or three steps and only back one. He has been going to customers (he is a computer analyst/programmer consultant) offices about one or two days a week. This really helps him emotionally and psychologically. Scans (MRI and CT) are scheduled week of 9/22. Neurosurgeon 9/30, radiation onc 10/9 and thoracic surgeon and med onc on 10/14. So of course, as you all know this is hand wrenching time. Something WEIRD is also happening this weekend. Our plans were: Friday night - go to my company's dinner at a lovely restaurant (As the other woman know, I had thoroughly planned my outfit etc.) Saturday am - drive to N. Potomac MD to my nieces house for the weekend. My wonderful sister is visiting there from Tulsa and I haven't seen her since June a year ago. Well, last night, our daughter called and we conferenced our son, couldn't get daughter #2 into the call. Conversation - "Mom - you and Dad have to be at my house at 6:30 on Friday night with a suitcase packed with 3 outfits each, one suitable for dinner out. (Forgot to ask if tropical or mucklucks). I have called your work and they know you will not be at the dinner and the kid in the neighborhood will be taking care of the cat." I CANNOT GET ANY MORE INFO AND IT IS KILLING ME. I really hope it is a big family reunion. I will be very disappointed if I don't see my sister. I am making Earl rest all day - so he will have some energy for our big adventure. Will let you all know. Praying for good scans for the Daves' and a successful surgery for Cheryl and a smooth flight for Gina. I hope you all have a calm and happy weekend.
  24. Kathi, Why does your Dad have the stomach tube? Also, keep after the medical community, he shouldn't be in pain in this day and age.
