  1. Hi Barbara Ellen I miss you at our other site, but sure am glad to have found you here. I too had not visited this site for a while. It was just easier to keep track of one site than jumping back and forth. I am trying to get use to the new changes, but so many changes had been made. I liked my comfort zone. You gave us all so much information and I hope it will continue here. GOD Bless You and Bill Mary Ann

  8. Debi I too have had no chemo since my surgery. There are times that when I go to get up from my chair I feel like my legs will not move. At night while sleeping I will wake up and my hands are numb. I have always thought that this is the results of my surgery and the sock effect it has had on my body. I never had any of these symptoms before the lobectomy. It is just another side effect I have learned to deal with. MaryAnna
  9. This is really really wonderful news!!! GOD Bless MaryAnna
  10. Hi Debi I am glad you described that pain I had last week. Charlie Horse was a big kick in the side. It was my first with that one and I could hardly touch my lower rib cage after that. It really scared me at first and was sore for a few days. That area just lets me know every now and then that it is still there. I never really like wearing a bra. I think the whole bra thing was invented by a man just like that vice that they ask you put your breast in for a mammogram. GOD Bless MaryAnna
  11. Hi Nick I first was diagnosed with a suspicious spot on my right lung in March of 2005. I had a respiratory infection and had gone to the ER in February for chest x-rays thinking maybe I had pneumonia. In April of 2005 I had a CT and it revealed a mass of 3.6cm. In May my pulmonary doctor did a bronchoscopy, which came up negative for cancer cells. The problem with this procedure was that my doctor could not brush the area in which the tumor was located. His next step was to do a needle biopsy. He then requested another CT scan, which my insurance denied. We had to challenge our insurance and I asked the question if they had doctors that were willing to diagnose me I would like to know their names. My doctor also sent a letter to our insurance stating that he had advised me to seek legal council. My husband and I had decided to go ahead and pay out of pocket for the CT scan. The hospital had previously billed the insurance $1700. In July of 2005 I was granted authorization from Anthem to receive another CT scan. On August 3, 2005 I was told that the tumor had grown to 4.2 cm and I needed to have my right upper lobe remove. I then would put in touch with my thoracic surgeon who scheduled me for surgery on the 1st of September. This allowed me to finish up classes I was taking to become a medical assistant. This surgery was done by the spreading of the ribs. The upper right lobe was removed along with the removal of one nodule on the lower right lobe that had been there for at least 7 years with no growth. I was very blessed that my cancer was type 1B squamous was primary and had not involved the lymph nodes. After the surgery both my pulmonary and thoracic surgeon agreed that no other treatment was needed at this time. I had completed the courses I had taken to become a medical assistant on August 22, 2005 with perfect attendance. My recovery went better than I had expected. After about 10 weeks from the time of my surgery I went on to complete my six weeks externship. It was during this time that I discovered this site and LCA and did I ever have QUESTIONS. I also started a journal to help me reflect on my progress. I wrote very often in the beginning of keeping this journal and now weeks and even months go by before I make any entries. My pulmonary doctor is going to follow me for the next five years. So far all of my x-rays and CT scans have been good. I thank GOD, prayers, good friends, a wonderful family, and great doctors for my being here today. I believe that GOD was looking out for me when I went to that ER in February of 2005. 12. Hi All I come to this site looking for answers and to find hope. Doing searches on the net can be quite scary. I don’t think anyone can give a time table for life. Each is different in their own special way. I would like to share an example. My seventy-seven mother lives with my husband and me. On a trip to the grocery store she ran into an old friend from years ago. My mother proceeded to bring her up to date. The lady knew that my 52 year old brother passed away on March 18, 2002 from cancer of the throat. Mom told her that she was living with me and that I too had been diagnosed with cancer. She told her that my prognoses so far had been good. Then the lady surprised my mother by telling her that she had her whole lung removed ten years ago and that she is living a good life so far. Now of course I asked my mother why they removed her lung and what type of treatment she had. My mother had not asked her any of these questions. Mom was so glad to hear that her friend was doing so well after ten years and counting. Hope comes to us in many ways. I know that this lady doesn’t belong to any wed site and I thought I would share her good news. I am sure that there are plenty more stories out there that are very uplifting. GOD Bless MaryAnna

  15. Hi Carol I too still have the feeling of tightness and the numbness under my right breast. I have learned to accept that this is most likely the way it will always feel. There are times when I am very active that the area of my surgery will become sore. Everyday it feels as if I have a strap around my ribs on the right side. I have learned to ignore these feelings. I think of myself as bless to have had the cancer caught so early. GOD Bless MaryAnna
