  1. It looks like Tim's cancer is back and it's in the mediastinum area. The CT shows areas that are not well defined, but they're sure that it's tumor activity. The chemo Tim was on really brought him down and he had to have blood transfussions after each round. He's lost weight (and can't afford to-129 lbs) and has a lot of fatigue. We started Iressa today and we hope that is will work without too many side effects. He doesn't have much strength, so there's not much reserve. This is such awful news and we have been lucky so far, so maybe our luck will hold. I was just reading some to the post about Iressa and it sounds like so doctors are saying it works well, when it works. I'm pretty down in the dumps. We just found out yesterday, so I have trouble even talking about it with family and friends. I hope he can be well enough to take a trip to Southern CA to visit our family. I haven't been writing on the boards much lately, but I do keep up with everybody. I pray for all of us everyday.
  2. Cathy, I'm really sorry to hear about the reoccurance. I hate cancer!! We don't have any experience with two lung surgeries either, but I sure wish you the best and will be praying for you.
  3. Norme, I saw you were missing in action, but I hoped you were on vacation. No such luck. I will be praying for your Buddy from now till his surgery on the 24th. And I will be saying some for you too!! It's hard to keep our heads up all the time. I feel like crawling under the covers myself.

    the shakes

Debbie, my husband has the same problem and I also think it's a combination of the meds and get very bad when he needs to eat or is dehydrated, so listen to Mary Ann. I really don't think it has anything to do with mets. Annie

    I made it

The trip sounds wonderful, and what a awesome thing to celebrate!! Your an inspiration to all of us and we owe you more than we can say for helping to start this board. You should feel very proud that you are helping so many people deal with this horrible disease by being able to help and support each other. I don't think I could have dealt as well as I have without the help of everyone here. Annie
  17. Andrea, wonderful news for your mom. Waiting for the test results is awful, but love that good news!! Annie
  18. Yeah!! Take her out to dinner and celebrate. A year is great news, but just the start of many more. Annie
  19. Prayers for you Ray. I just know you have an empty head. I hate this waiting for tests. It sould be used as a torture device for prisoners of war!! Your in my thoughts all the time. Annie
  20. JC, I'm so sorry for your loss. 43 years is a long time. The day you played music and talked about all the good times and what your life together meant---I'm still crying. What a special thing to do. We should all learn from this and do it today to our loved ones. My prayers are with you. Annie
  21. When Tim was on Gemzar and Carbo he was on the same schedule as your mom. The 1st week he would get both drugs, the 2nd week he would only get Gemzar and the 3rd week was a rest week. He didn't do well on the combo and needed blood transfusions after each cycle. The onc was surprised and says most people do very well on it. Good luck to your mom. Annie
  22. Janet, get well soon and come back to us soon. Our prayers are with you and take advantage and rest up while your there. Annie
  23. Fay Tim has been having stomach pain and bloating, some intestinal problems. He just had a visit to the GI doc and they did a colonoscopy and looked at his stomach too. He gave him an all clear. Should I believe this?? Annie

    bad news

Jay, we don't have experience with brain mets, but you sure have received a lot of good advice from everyone here. Your always in our thoughts and I know that you will fight this and win. You have all of us on your side. Annie
  25. Tim had to stop getting chemo today. He went in and had lost 10 pounds in a week! I knew he wasn't feeling too well, but had no idea his eating was this bad. I have been working all week and wasn't home to nag him. The onc said it's doing more harm than good and he will not finish his course of treatment. He was supposed to have a treatment today, have a week off, and have two more treatments over the next 2 weeks. I don't know if I should be happy or upset about this. The last scans he had showed no evidence of disease, but I know from others experiences that this can come back with a vengence. If it does, he can't have chemo, and he's had all the radiation he can have. If he's being that affected by the chemo, does that mean it's working? He was getting Gemzar and Carbo and the onc didn't think this would be so hard on his system. He's hair has gotten very thin and he's had to have 4 units of blood after two rounds, much to his suprise. What do you all think?? Should I be glad it over, or upset that he may not have had enough?? Help!! Annie
