  1. Saw mom on Friday and she was in really good spirts, she is very upset about how they cut her hair and is a little grossed out about the cut and staples on her scalp. She goes on Wednesday to get evaluated for therapy and on Monday to get the staples out. The Dr. still has not released her from his care yet so she can't watch my daughter until then. I think she is afraid to until he says so. Friday went very well. She was walking and talking like the person I remember. She still has a problem with letting go of items in her left hand but with therapy and time that will be corrected. Thank you all so much for you prayers and thoughts. I will keep everyone updated on her progress and visit the board. Theresa
  2. Just spoke with my mom and they are releasing her from the hospital today. My dad is on his way to pick her up. She is so happy, I'm happy. She actually sounded like her normal self meaning her voice was not weak and filled with worry. So I will be visiting her tomorrow with my daughter which will make her very happy. Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. Theresa
  3. Thank you everyone for your prayers and thoughts. Went to see mom last night at the hospital. She looked very tired, which is to be expected from the anesthesia. She had a bandage on her head put not her holw head. She was more upset about her hair being cut the way it was then the operation. She is very relieved that the operation is done. My husband, daughter and I stayed about an hour. We will go back tonight and I beleive she will still be in the hospital until sometime on Friday maybe Saturday. I know she was hoping to get out today but my dad talked to the Dr. and he said the soonest would be on Friday afternoon. So we will see on that. She did have a headach which is to be expected. She wanted Tylenol but they would not give it to her. Don't know why. She was on Morphine before since she can't have the other drugs they wanted to give her. They wanted to give her Percasets(sp?)but they make her sick to her stomach. I'll keep everyone up dated on what is going on. We are all relieved that everything went very well. Theresa
  4. Well the surgery went very well. Mom is in recovery for a couple of hours and will be transfered to her room. From what the Dr. told my father, the tumor was all dead and the radiation that she had to kill is was making it swell which was causing pressure on her brain. So the tumor was removed along with a couple of nodules? Can someone explain what a nodule is. So all is well. I will be going with my daughter and husband to see her tonight. Can someone tell me what to expect after a surgery like this. I know her head will be bandaged up and all but what else should I expect. Also if all goes well and she is released from the hospital I will be with her on Friday, what can I expect that day also. I have been around people that have had surgery before but never on their brain. Thanks
  5. Dinner was good last night, she was tired but that is to be expected. My dad was there also so he was able to clam her down a little when she would get nervous. Surgery is today. She has to be at the hospital by 6am and they were going to give her another MRI at 7:30 to pinpoint exactly where the tumor is located. They also want to compare all of her MRI's which I think are like 3 or 4 I lost count. I will post an up date when my father calls me after the surgery.

    Pet Scan

Mom got her results back from her pet scan that she had on Saturday. NED, nothing was there everything was clear. She is so happy and relieved, now all we have to do is get over the surgery tomorrow and go from there.
  7. Mom is getting surgery tomorrow at 6:00am. She had to go and preregister yesterday and it was a big toll on her. My aunt her sister brought her for that, from what my aunt told me everything went very smoothly. My mom didn't seem really interesting in talking to me at all yesterday or even today when I called. It was like she was blowing me off. It kind of hurt me. But I have been trying to not let anything she says or does bother me. Most of it is due to the steriods that she is taking or the zanix. She was on two pills a day and started to really scare everyone around her. She was so mean and hurtful. She finally called her Dr. and he lowered her to one pill a day. I'm hoping she will be off of them after her surgery. It is like Dr. Jeckel Mr. Hyde. Very scary. I almost didn't let her see my daughter the other day because she was acting so crazy. I however relized that it would only make matters worse if I denied her to see my daughter. I'm going to dinner at my aunts house tonight with my daughter, my husband can't make it and my mom is all bent out of shape about it. He made a prior commitment and can't get out of it. I'm really dreading going to dinner. I have no idea what to talk to her about since she doesn't seem interesting in anything I say. I was telling her about my checkup today on the phone and it was like she was not even listening. I just don't know. I know Wednesday is just tomorrow but it is not comming fact enough.
  8. Jen I couldn't of said it any better myself. This is our norm now. There isn't a day that goes by without me thinking about the word cancer. It is something that I and my whole family has to deal with on a a daily basis. Even when my mom makes it to the 5 year mark. It will always be in the back of my mind, put on the back burner for simmering. The test will never go away the will always come every 6 months or so.
  9. Mom got the call from the Dr. today and she is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday August 16th at 6:15 am. The Dr. said she will have to stay overnight and should be able to go home on Thursday if all goes well. I'm not sure what type of surgery they are going to perform, but if she will be released the next day I don't think it is that invasive. The Dr. did say he wanted her to go in for a PET Scan on Saturday to make sure her lungs are still clear. I think she is more nervous about the PET Scan then the upcomming surgery. The Dr. also said that the pressure is the reason why she is experiencing weakness on her left side, but since she has been taking steroids her strength is coming back. She is starting to sound like her self again. Her voice still sounds a little tired but I know that is to be expected. I will keep everyone up dated on what happens. Thank you Theresa
  10. Mom just called with news on what the Neurolgist said. He wants to operate to remove it. They are going to call today to schedule her for surgery next week. She will be in the hospital for 2 to 3 days, then maybe rehab due to the weakness on left side. Dr. said the weakness is due to the pressure the tumor is causing. She will be evaluated after surgery to determain rehab. The Dr. seems very good about this surgery he has been doing it for 19 years. So we got some good news.
  11. Mom has a meeting with the neurologist today to determain what her options are. They are either looking at surgery or cyberknife. Dad is going with her since she can't drive until she get the all clear for the Dr. Which will not be until all treatments are done. I saw her on Saturday and some moments she is good others she is not so good. I would be talking to her and it was like she wasn't even paying attention. Or she would be on one subject then switch to another subject then back to the first subject. It was very confusing and I was tired by the end of the day. Is this all normal with brain mets. I can't remember it being like this last time. I will keep everyone posted with the upcoming news. Theresa
  12. Thank you all for you prayers and thoughts, this weekend will be a long on. I plan on visiting with my parents on Saturday so I'm hoping that I can talk with my father so he can fill in the blanks if there are any. My mom has a habit of leave some information out which can be important. I'm also going becuase I know she wants to see my daughter. Since it will be a while before she can watch her on Mondays again. We are all hoping by the middle of September she will be back to normal. Or somewhat normal. I'll keep everyone posted. Theresa
  13. WEll mom got ger MRI yesterday and there are no new growths on her brain. What is causing the problem is the old tumor that is still there. Half of it is dead and the other half is still alive but not growing. So that is good news. She is meeting with a nurosugren on Monday the 7th to determin if they can operate with out messing her up. If they can't then she will get cyberknife done. she can't drive until the procedure is done either one. She is kind of upset about that since she watches my duaghter on monday's. But I told her that this is not forever that we will figure something out, but now she just needs to concentrate on getting better. If they so the surgery she will be in the hospital of 2 to 3 days, then rehab for a week, since she has weakness on her left side. She says it's like she had a stroke, but she didn't. They put her on steriods like last time so he comes the mean again. It is only one pill so it will not be to bad. Now we just have to wait. Thank you for all your thoughts. Theresa
  14. Michelepal I live in Manchester, but my parents live in Madison, she is going to Saint Frances for the MRI.
  15. Mom is geting her MRI today, we are all praying that it is not as bad as we are thinking it might be. She is going in at 1:00. Then off to the Dr. office to wait for the results. My dad says they are not leaving until they get the results, he doesn't want to wait at home. I'll keep everone updated on what is going on when they call me.
