  1. I hope this is not too depressing for some, but I have been reading the posts on here, from all the way back to 2003..everyone seems to suffer so much all through the treatments..and so few seem to beat this thing. My sister has sclc, extensive. She has been through her 1st round of chemo. Came through that pretty good..a little nausea and really tired, but from the majority of the posts, it gets worse with each treatment. So many things happen. Mets to the brain, spine, and everywhere. More treatments..Is it really worth it in the end? Please someone give me something to believe in. I am so scared of what she is going to have to go through.
  2. My sister has had her 2nd chemo treatment and is in the process of her 3rd right now. I talked to her last night and she was really hoarse. To recap, she has lung cancer and it spread to her thyroid. Is this a normal thing..it has gradually gotten worse and the Doctor said it was because of the cancer. Also, how long before she starts to fell any side effect from chemo? I know it is different for everyone, and some don't have any problems, but is it too early to tell if she will not have any problems. Her first treatment was monday..yesterday her second and today is her third. She said she feels fine.
  3. Everyone seems to have had such a hard time. I am so scared for my sister. I have read a lot of posts and see where people overcome such hardships and it does give me a great deal of hope..a lot of posts show the person improving..then BAM out of nowhere..things go bad. It is very scary to me.
  4. Well my sister took her first chemo treatment yesterday and is on her way to get the second one to day. She did fine with it, but I heard from someone that it takes 5 days before any side effects are felt. Is that true? I do not know what type of chemo she is getting..I forgot to ask. I have been trying to get her son home. He is in the Navy somewhere on the Arabian Sea. Finally, I think he is going to get leave to come and be with her for a couple of weeks. Hopefully, he will bring her spirits up. I will continue to update, as I get information. I am going there this weekend to cook some meals for her to freeze, so she doesn't have to worry about cooking, so I should be able to find out more. Thank you all for staying in touch. It is an incredible comfort to me.
  5. Thanks so much to everyone for the support and constant uplifting. My sister, Beverly, has her first chemo treatment today. She is very nervous, but in good spirits. Her faith is just unbelievable. Her PET results showed no further spreading so that is good, I think. I live in another city, but I plan to go there this weekend to see her and get her house in order and cook a few meals for her and her family. Her husband is there with her and we have a really large family, so someone is always there. Thank you all so much. You have no idea how it makes me feel to know that others have been where I am and can tell me what to expect and hope for.
  6. Thanks to all who replied. I am still praying for a miracle..my sister has already claimed one. She will start chemo on Monday, so I will continue to update as I know things. Just not really feeling too talkative right now, but wanted to say thanks because it really does mean a lot to me to know there are people out there to talk me through this.
  7. Hello everyone. My sister has been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. It has spread to her thyroid. She starts Chemo on Monday Sept. 25. Please tell me what to expect. What are her chances of surviving this? I need someone to be frank with me, so I can know what to hope for. Please help me cope with this.
