  1. Raney, Yes, that's it. Thank you. Jill
  2. I have a vague memory of reading somewhere about a possible (but rare) pulmonary inflammation side effect from Tarceva. What is that condition called? Thanks for any help! Jill

    Diarrhea Control

I will be watching the replies with interest as my mom also has problems with diarrhea. It started about the same time she began the Tarceva. Between the diarrhea and the fatigue, I'm wondering if we should request that the doctor try a lower dosage of the Tarceva. She's taking 150 mg. I've seen several people on here that take 100mg or less. Jill
  4. Just wondering if anyone has experience with increased fatique while on Tarceva. My mom completed 6 treatments of carbo/taxol/avastin in February. now She started Tarceva 12 days ago and she is extremely fatiqued, even when she gets a very good night sleep, she still feels very tired. Is this the Tarceva? Anyone have experience with this? Will it continue. She's on 150 mg/day. She's only 115 pounds, maybe she needs a smaller doseage. Any advice for dealing with fatigue?! Thanks, Jill
  5. My mom (dx stage 4 adenocarcinoma in Oct.) experienced a severe reaction to taxol during her first chemotherapy 2 weeks ago. They stopped administering immediately gave her some allergy medication to stabilize her and then asked if she wanted to "challenge" the taxol (meaning to try it again). So they waited two hours and she went ahead and tried it again (challenged it) and did okay with it. This was very scary because they said she could react again (maybe even more severely) or do okay with it. Has anyone had this experience before. If so, how did it go the next time around? My mom's next round is next week, and I'm nervous about the taxol. The onc says they will do it a little differently this time, wait longer to start it, give her some type of immuno suppressant. Anyways, any experiences out there like this? Thanks. I'm working on getting the signature written.
  6. Hi. I'm responding because your signature sounds a lot like what mine will read when I get it written. My mom was diagnosed with stage IV adenocarcinoma last month, there is lymph node involvement and the doctor is unsure of the primary. She made it through her first round of chemo two weeks ago: Carbo/Taxol/avastin. I don't know about Taxotere. Maybe I should find out, because my mom had an allergic reaction to the Taxol during administration. They waited an hour and tried again and no reaction. Other than that, she didn't experience a lot of side effects, mostly hightened anxiety and pulse, possibly due to the anti-nausea medication. She's feeling good now. Hope it goes well for your dad. Jill
  7. My mom (diagnosed with NSCLC, adenocarcinoma, Stage IV)has had to have fluid (thoracenticis) drained several times since her diagnosis several weeks ago. The fluid on the last one was more bloody. What does this indicate? Also there has been talk of pleuradecis. Someone I know said her dad had this and was angry about it because it lessened his quality of life because it was harder to breathe. Anyone else have personal experience with this procedure? Thanks, Jill
  8. Wow, thanks so much for all of the replies. I want to work on my profile, but that will take time to piece it together. I think for now I want to focus on researching the chemo and possible side effects so that we're ready for that. I also would like to know from those of you that have been diagnosed with lung cancer, what do you think I can do to be the most helpful to my mom? Thanks for any input. P.s. what is NED
  9. Hi, My mom was just diagnosed this week with non small cell lung cancer- adenocarcinoma, stage IV. She is 66, and I am very sad about this. She is too young. She is the best "Granny" to my 4 kids! This has been a rough few weeks as they searched for the primary source of the cancer. It seems like she has been through every possible test this week, biopsies, MRI, CT scan, PET, mammogram, ultrasound, x-rays, etc. It's in several lymph nodes. She'll start chemotherapy next week. The drugs are Taxol, Avastin, Carboplastin. My siblings and I are doing everything we can think to be the best support to my mom. Each of us is taking on a piece of what needs to be done. My piece will be doing research online. I'm just starting, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
