  1. I am so glad that he left in peace and so glad that you have many wonderful memories of your dad! He will forever live in your heart!
  2. Hi! It may be from the Mets to the Liver, i have a friend that has that itchiness from the Liver. Definitely tell the dr. because there could be meds that could help.
  3. hmmm, do you know how to move it? Thanks for your input, yep, sounds like your Dad is just like mine.
  4. Hi Don, Maybe I should have started a new chain with this, but was hoping I could get your input. My Dad just got done PCI two weeks ago. He has had a total of 48 radiation treatments 30 to the left lung where the tumor was (which is gone now) and 18 to the brain for preventative. He basically is doing well, although whenever I speak with him, he complains about the metallic taste in his mouth and that food just doesn't tase the same. His scalp is itchy (but things could be a lot worse) Do you know anything about the metallic taste? Do you know of anything that can help this. Thanks so much for your time!
  5. Good morning, one other thing I though of that you may want to check, is that when my dad has his tumor diagnosed, his sodium level was really low, as the tumor secretes some type of hormone that causes this. This caused a lot of confusion with him and memory problems. I would definitely talk with the dr. They had my dad on special medicine for this which took care of the problem. Best of luck and many prayers!
  6. It is sooo hard to be far away from a loved one as they are going through this. You want to do everything to help, and it is ALWAYS on your mind. You must believe, though, that right now she is in the best place to get rehydrated and find out the best meds that work for her. Sending you prayers!
  7. I am so sorry you are going through this. This is just how it went with my Dad - he lives in SC near Hilton Head. He was originally going to stay near the SC University Hospital at a hotel during treatment, but found that there was a place 20 minutes away from his home that he went to each day for his treatments and was able to stay in his home. This was so much better for his stress level, and it is so important when you are going through this to be as little stressed as possible and know that you can be comfortable in your own home. I know how hard for you this is and that you need family. Maybe you can have people come and be with you at different times. You could just play it by ear, see how he does, and take it one day at a time in FL. If things seem to get worse you could always change plans. He may do VERY well on all his treatments and have wonderful care just from you at home. Best of luck!
  8. Interesting comment - I read that also. Hmmmm, have to see what we find out on this. That is so great about your Dad! You wonder though - you hate for them to have to go through that unless the have too!

  10. What an inspiration to read this and how very happy I am for both of you. That is a real pick me up after reading the other e-mail posted on SCLC board. Best of luck always!

    My Dad

I am so happy for my Dad today and just wanted to share. After 30 radiation treatments to the chest, and 18 treatments to the brain of radiation he is done! I am so pleased for him. Ya know, he wonders why he has been tired lately! Everything he did was back, to back to back. All chemo is done too! Now, I said to him, it is moving forward and getting well and thinking positive. I just am so glad that he has stopped running back and forth to get everything done, and can concentrate completely on himself. I do NOT want to see the SCLC come back. The tumor is gone that they had found in December. I will pray everyday for his continued recovery. He truly is my hero!!!1
  12. Hi All, Would love to hear from anyone out there that is familiar with PCI. I need to add his history below. But Started in early December with chemo/radiation. radiation 2x a day for 3 weeks and chemo for 4 weeks. Anyway, his tumor is gone, now he is going for PCI. He has 3 treatments left. He is all of a sudden in the last week VERY tired. He can't keep focused either. I am figuring the fatigue is from the Brain radiation. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks so much!
  13. Hi all, Wanted to check in to see if anyone has input on the metallic taste that my Dad has been having and a very dry throat. Thirsty a lot! He has been through all his chemo and radiation (the tumor in lung is gone) and is now going through PCI. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Karen
  14. Thank you everyone! I was finally able to talk to my Dads oncologist today and they are prescribing an antidepressant along with Xanax for a little help. I am so glad! I think this will help him a lot right to get him through this part. Thanks again for all your advice and encouragment. What a great group. Also, the oncologist told me that many during a time like this take these type of meds, so I know he is not alone!
  15. Thank you all for your advice, Well, I took the bull by the horn and called the Oncologist myself and I am waiting for a call back. I truly believe my Dad has a hard time talking about really the way he feels. I know his mind is racing and I know how hard this has been on him. Thanks again everyone. God Bless! Take care of yourselves!
  16. Well, he just got back from the Dr. and they are first trying him on the Ambiem CR. Although, my feeling is that the Xanax or Ativan would be better for taking the edge off for him. I just know that this is so hard for him, and wish I was out there. We will see how this works, but he promised he would call for me. Thanks everyone for your input! God Bless!
  17. Thank you Katie! My Dad wasn't listening to me, but now I think he believes that he does need something. My mom is going with hin today, and I hope this helps. I want him to get his rest. You confirmed exactly how I was feeling!
  18. Thanks so much for this. I will keep you posted. Is your Dad doing good?
  19. Wow! Thanks for telling me this, as I think that is what he needs. If you could find out what he is taking, I would be very interested. Although my Dad is seeing the Dr. today. I appreciate your input. Hope all is well with your dad and you!
  20. Good morning all. Hoping I can get some advice for my Dad. He is having a horrible time sleeping and is depressed. He has finished his radiation and chemo and the tumor is gone in his lung. He just began radiation on Friday to his brain. Anyway, they are going to the dr. this afternoon, and I am thinking he should be on an anti-depressant and possibly something like Xanax. He take Lunesta for sleeping, but it doesn't seem to be helping. This is very difficult for him as he was always a great sleeper. Any tips anyone has would be greatly appreicated. Thanks again!
  21. I love to hear these stories! Congrats! Best of wishes to your sister!
  22. Hi all, I am going to visit my Dad on Sunday for a week. I live in Philadelphia and he lives in SC. I can't wait to see him as I just want to be near him and give him support. He was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer the beginning of December. He is on the end of his second week of radiation. 2x a day and chemo once a day. He has another full week of radiation next week. I guess what I am asking is, he has been feeling great so far, and I know that he may get side effects. Since he is starting his 3rd week whil I am out there, wondering what I may expect to see. I want to be totally strong for him and prepare myself. He is everything to me. Any advice you can give me on how to support him would be greatly appreciated, plus what I may expect symptom wise. Thanks so much! This is such a great site with such helpful people!
