Ernie, I think that sounds like very positive news. I'm happy you are doing well. It does my heart good! Take Care, Rachel
  10. Terri, I'm am so sorry you had to seek this site out. It's a club no one wants to be a part of. I totally understand about having small children and having to deal with this horrible burden. One thing that gets me up every morning is a little word called Hope. There are so many wonderful people who post here and are beating this disease. Why not you? Take Care, Rachel
  11. Yvette, So sorry to hear about your dad. I was also one who was totally shocked to hear I had lung cancer. I have always been a healthy eater, never smoker and only 34 yrs. old! I think that environmentally there are more things out there that cause this than we want to know about. I hope your dad continues to do well. Take Care, Rachel
  12. Mark, Wonderful to hear that you have been on Iressa for 4 years! I know of two people who have taken it for a substantial amount of time. My husbands uncle was on it for 2 1/2 years and recently had some progression so they are trying something new. A family friend of ours has been on Iressa for over 3 years now and is doing very well. In fact he just started a men's cancer support group in our area. He calls Iressa a miracle drug. When I start Tarceva I hope that I can have the same results! Take Care, Rachel
  13. Diana, Welcome to this wonderful support community. It's so hard dealing with this terrible disease and having children at home makes it even more difficult. Although the children do keep the need to fight strong. I will be praying for you. Take Care, Rachel

  15. Hello All, I was at my support group the other day and a couple of women were telling me about essiac tea and the benefit it offers to some types of cancer. I was curious if anyone has tried it? I haven't checked with what my doctor might think about it but I knew I could get a quick response here. Thanks, Rachel
  16. Wow. This seems pretty true to my character! Rachel
  17. Sending lots of prayers your way! Take Care, Rachel

    Quilt of Holes

Jamie, Thanks for sharing the Quilt of Holes. It brought tears to my eyes. I too believe in handing things over to God when life gets a little too tough to bear. I have certainly been turning a lot over to God lately! Take Care, Rachel
  19. Adam, I also really enjoy the Bernie Siegel books. There is also a book called the Cancer Conqueror by Greg Anderson. It is about a man who survived and thrived after being diagnosed with a late stage lung cancer. Very inspirational! Rachel
  20. Heather, I am so happy to hear your good news! I hope it just keeps getting better and better! Take care I am sending you more prayers. Rachel

    NED

Betty, Congratulations! So happy to hear your good news. Rachel
  22. Karyn, I totally agree with the consensus of the group. Get a second opinion and definitely do not wait the three months the doctor is suggesting. I made that mistake early on.....I had a ultrsound done on a suspicious lump back in April 06'and my doctor told me I had nothing to worry about....5 months later I was in the fight of my life. A fight for my life. I wish you only the best in whatever comes next for you! Rachel
  23. Happy Anniversay to your mom! She is truly an inspiration to all of us here! Rachel
  24. Julie, So sorry to hear about your mom's diagnosis. It is certainly a tough road to travel on. I was also concerned about the nausea thing when I started chemo last Oct. I told my doctor how sick I got from taking pain medications and to me chemo is on the whole other end of the medication spectrum. They gave me 4 different anti-nausea medications. The first line meds were Zofran and Ativan. I also had Gralla suppositories and Compazine. The biggest thing to watch out for is to take something the moment you even feel just a little bit sick and not let it get out of control. The Zofran and Ativan worked great for me and I didn't need to take the other meds. I can honestly say I didn't experience any nausea throughout my 5 cycles of chemo. I wish the best for you mom! Rachel
  25. Thank you all for the warm welcome and advice. I know I'm in the right place. I already feel like I'm not so alone in this journey.
