  1. My mom has been diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer mets to bone, adrenal glands, lymph nodes....in April 07. She has no chemo.....right now she is too weak to get up on her own. She is on soooo much meds that she is not totally there. Decadron, Time released Morphine, and for break through pain liquid Morphine. She is sweating soooo profusely! Her bone pain is so severe that my sister has to give her 3 mls of liquid Morphine at one time. We have to feed her food. She still has eats pretty good. Her feet, face, and hands are so swollen. She is sleeping most of the time. Her breathing is somewhat labored......It is sooooo hard to see her this way!! I feel soooo bad for her that I can't look at her. Is that selfish?? So what should I expect??? Thanks in advance!!
  2. My mom is scheduled for radiation on Monday due to the fact we just got the CT scan results and it was not good!! It is around her spinal cord so it can paralyze her. The onc do not want her to lose funciton of her bowels/urination. The tumors are fast growing and crawling up her nerves. She is on Decadron and Ativan.....helped with the pain she's been having. Doc said no chemo.....possible Navelbine. What's the chance of that? Thanks!
  3. Hello all, Today has been one of the darkest day of my life. My mom was diagnosed with NSCLC Stage IV on April 07 with mets to bone and lymph node area, no liver and kidney. She was on Tarceva.....scrapping that....not working. We got the test results of the CT scan and it's progressed. To the tune of 3cms?? All the docs are offering is radiation to the spine....concerned of being paralyzed. And then hospice and die. My mom has off the charts side effects to every meds. For example they gave her Decadron(steroid) and it gave a BAD side effect. IT had suicidal effects on her. Also gave her EXTREME anxiety!! She said she rather die then go throught that again. Anyone have that side effect? Anyhow....since my mom's sensitivity to meds and toxins....the docs recommend hospice and go home and die. They did mention Navelbine.....any thoughts on that? Pls advise!! TIA!!
  4. Hello, My mom has NSCLC Stage IV and is on Tarceva. No prior IV Chemo yet. My questions are she needs a blood transfusion. I am not familar with that. Is it a unusal thing when getting chemo? Pls feel me in. It just seems like a scary word!! Also.....my mom has bone mets and she is in SEVERE pain EVERY night! She cries and moan at night. I feel so bad for her. The pain also comes and goes during the day. She is on Morphine and Diladid(sp?)around the clock. But it's not helping with her pain at night. When it flares up she need like 10mgs of Diladid! Is there any other pain meds for bone pain? Fentanol patch? Oxycodone? Thanks so much for your time!
  5. Hello, My mom has had severe reactions to Tarceva 150 mgs. She has been taking it for about 3 weeks...She has mouth sores to the point where she can't eat or drink. In her inner mouth and tongue it is red, raw, and swollen. Everything she eats is bitter. She no appetite. Her fevers of 102 have been on and off for about 3 days. After going to the ER....her chest x-ray is clear so no infection there. She was told to get off of Tarceva to recover. Her onc is now talking about either lowering the dosage or go to Carbo/Gemzar. We can only imagine that being worse as her sensitivity to the toxicity of Tarceva. Has anyone have this severe reactions to Tarceva?? Please help!! Tammy
  6. My mom has been taking Tarceva 150mgs for about 3 weeks....she has bad rashes throughout her body....but what put her in the ER 2 times is her fevers of 102 she has been having for about 3 days. Both times in the ER...her vital signs are good....chest xray is clear....heart ok....just a fever. Has anyone experience a fever while taking Tarceva? Maybe a lower dosage is what we need....TIA Tammy
  7. Hello, My mom has just started Tarceva....she is wondering if and when does side effects kick in.....such as Nausea/rash? Just want to prepare...thanks! Tammy

  9. My mom is 60 years old, non-smoker. She was diagnosed with NSCLC and in stage IV. She is in pain....there are couple 2cms tumors on her left lung and several in her adrenal area(2 and 3 mms) and has pain in her hip area. Her oncologist is recommending Cisplatin/Gemcitabine combo. 4 hour drip of Cisplatin every 3 weeks and Gemcitabine once every week......There are several on here that are taking the Carboplatin/Taxol combo as opposed to what her doctor is recommneding....Anyone know why doctors prefer one over the other? Anyone who has been on Cisplatin/Gemcitabine? What are your side effect? What anti-naseua meds were prescribed? What can we expect? Sorry for all the questions! Just very anxious!! Thanks!! Tammy
