  1. Hi. I'd like to email you to compare results for your Mom's Gemzar treatments, since I am also Stage IV NSCLC. and am on Gemzar/Carboplatin. However I'm getting much less: Two weeks on and then three off. Sept. 11 I start my 2d round with chemo for two weeks, then three off again. I do wonder why the difference in amounts; how do they decide how much we need? So far, my oncologist says my disease is "small" (the large number of tumors in both lungs); plus there are two in my neck. I had one removed from my hip in July (hip replacement). Also what effects does she feel from the chemo, besides being tired? Sounds like that's the main thing; same with me. My blood counts are climbing back some due to Prokrit injections and time off too, I imagine. I don't know whether I want more chemo to feel worse or if it matters. Please email me what the results of her scan are next week. Thanks.
  2. Hi. Since I will just begin Gemzar/Carboplatin next week, I don't have any actual exerience yet. I've never had Chemo and am "girding" myself against nausea, weakness, etc. I will stay in touch so your dad and I can compare notes. It seems a cough and breath shortness seems manageable, but maybe not. I've hardly had time to register or give info on myself....new here. Just had hip replacement due to mestasticised NSCLC in both lungs, neck and Femoral Neck bone of hip. That delayed chemo, but I'm stage IV and will be looking for help and support, as well as offering anything I can do my fellow travelers.
  3. Hi Jonathan. I asked my oncologist about trying Iressa. He said OK if you want, I can give you the prescription. However, it's only been effective in 2% of the cases tried for lung cancer. There was one type that had a response. I can check on that if you like; but I know it wasn't NSCLC, squamous, which I have. I'd be interested to know if anyone here has had a positive response. From Shirley
