    No Mets!?

Mom had her appt. at MD And. on Wed. and the docs were happy to say they have not seen any mets from her lung cancer. Monday we meet with the surgeon and he wants a Xenon lung scan, PFT's, and PET scan before making a decision to remove her left lung. Only one doc staged it a IIB. I guess after the PET scan they can be sure. We are happy, but also cautious. Not sure yet about post-op chemo. Thanks to all for your support!
  2. Welcome Genie, Sorry to hear the news about your Dad. I found a great website after my Mom was diagnosed...www.blochcancer.org Check it out it really helped us with our attitude about beating cancer. But, be careful about some other websites..they can be very depressing and make you feel hopeless which is the worst thing. Good luck and keep us informed.

    Update on my mom

Praying for excellent Pet Scan results
  4. That x-ray tech should have never made that comment to you, especially since it was not confirmed and the x-ray had to be repeated. Anyway...your story was worth sharing with us.
  5. Shelley your post brought tears to my eyes and everything you mentioned about your emotions I have thought about also. I haven't been through all that you have, but it is still painful to think about losing a wonderful parent and friend. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

    Questions

Just curious..After a lobectomy, thoracotomy, etc. how many of you were on the ventilator after your surgery and for how long? What is the average treatments per week for radiation and chemo? I know everyone is different but I need something to prepare myself for what's ahead. Mom has 2 tumors in her left lung and they're very large. We will find out this Wed. what the docs plans are to treat. Thanks to all

    Congrats!!!
  14. Ada you are right...an O2 sat. of at least 90% is good. You are probably on a low flow O2 device (nasal cannula) and 92-93% is good enough for your doctor. When you are ambulatory it should also be at least 90%. Good Luck and God Bless
  15. You're right Katie..no one deserves lung cancer. The first question someone asks me is "does your Mom smoke?" which means to most people if you smoke they think you deserve cancer. Makes me very mad because there are so many other diseases caused from bad habits, but smokers get no sympathy.
  16. I know how you feel June. My Mom did not smoke either and it is hard to believe that she has this d--- disease. I appreciate every moment with her. Keep a positive outlook, even though it may be difficult.
  17. Lisa, I am so sorry for what you and your Mother are going through. I hope this site can be as helpful and informative as it has been for me. I will pray for both of you.
  18. What a beautiful poem and worth making a copy to post here in the nurses lounge at the hospital where I work. I couldn't help it...I cried.
  19. Thinking good thoughts and praying for you and your wife
  20. Found a really inspiring website. www.blochcancer.org Read "a letter to all newly diagnosed cancer patients" it is very helpful and there are free books for the patient and caregiver. Tells what to expect in the journey to beating cancer and how a positive attitude helps. Good Luck To All!
  21. A positive attitude is needed and your Mother-in-law is a brave woman. Hope she beats this awful disease.

    It's Time

Hi Gail, Some of these docs can be so tactless. I think 20 years smoke free is a great accomplishment. Hope the Zoloft change will work for you.
  23. Thanks for some wonderful news. I am hoping the same for my Mom. She is my best friend and could not imagine life without her.
  24. Hi Jen, I believe a second opinion is needed for any serious illness. The doctors will not do anything without your father's consent. Please urge him to go so that you will know everything has been done in your power to help him. An hour away in not far at all. Good Luck and God Bless.
