  1. Gosh. I must be getting old. I remember most all of them. I actually got sent to principal office one time for having a dangerous weapon in school. I got caught shooting spit balls at the teacher. It was a small wooden rod about the size of a straw except if it got wet it did not collapse like a straw.

Does anyone remember the coke machine where the bottles stood up in water and slid on a track to the edge where you pulled the drink up (after depositing a dime of course)?

  2. Swing across the mountains of East TN and I'll hop on. I promised myself when I was dx 6 years ago I was going to see the beach for the first time in my life. Well 6 years later and no beach. Hurry down my way. Dont wait till July tho cause if you do, I won't be in TN. I will be at the BEACH for 2 weeks. :D:D:D

  4. Hi Christy. Sure I remember you. I can still see the picture of Darrell and his dog. Been thinking of you for a few weeks now and wondered how he was doing. Have not heard from you in ages. I am sure your story is an inspiration to many on this board. I too was declared cured this year. Like you, I can never be to cautious or take things for granted. This disease is BEATABLE. One again CONGRAGULATIONS and post again from time to time . Good Luck.

  5. Hi Barbara. Welcome to the board. Sorry that you had to come looking for us though. You won't find a better group of people to hang out with. We will laugh with you, cry with you and just be here to listen when you need to talk. Whatever your situation is, someone here has walked in your shoes.

I was 48 when I was diagnosed in 2003. In June 2008 my doctor released me and told me I was cured. I had NSCLC and had my left lung removed.

Tell us a little more about your treatments and diagnosis so that we can help you more. Take care and remember you are not on this ride alone. :)

  6. It was a little over 5 years ago that I was diagnosed with NSCLC. I was not sick but merely went to the doctor for a check-up on April 13, 2003. The result of that visit turned my life around. My doctor saw a cloudy spot on my lung. A CT was ordered and then more tests and eventually on June 19, 2003 I had surgery to remove my left lung. My surgeon told me beforehand that it was not an easy ride but it was doable and WE would get through it. He was right. There was pain, restless nights and days that I got hungry because I could not eat. I was sore and I was weak. I left my job and went on SS Disability because I could no longer work at the job I had been doing.

Due to me not working put me on the internet more...

I then stumbled on this wonderful site. I was member number 441 to join. Today there are 4367 registered members. I would check it 1 time a day. Now I check it 4 or 5 times a day. Am I addicted or what? I don't post much but I do read all the posts. I mean ALL. I click on 'Read Post Since Last Visit" and that gives me all.

When you laugh; I laugh. When you cry; I cry. When you grieve; I grieve. I pray for each of us daily.

Cancer is rough and hard. As Norme used to say "buckle your belt, you are in for a rough ride." I am doing fine at the present time. But why do I keep coming here if I am doing good? I CARE ABOUT OTHERS. I look at posts sometimes 2 or 3 times. I could post reply but I know someone else has been there and will post. If not I will post in a day or 2.

A lot of people have come and left since I joined. Some left because they no longer need the support that is offered here. A few have left because they were a caregiver and their loved one passed. And last but not least, some have lost their battle with the disease. I don't know how many of these 4367 are still with us. But I do know that there is more support here then ever.

I truly am glad to be a part of this group. I want to think each of you for caring enough to want to share with others. I am blessed to have crossed paths with each and everyone of you. Some of you truly amaze me. I would never have the courage or strength that some have.

I went to see my oncologist this week. He told me there was no need for me to see him anymore. I was shocked at first so I ask him to explain. He said as far as he was concerned, I was CURED. For the first time in 5 years I actually cried.

I don't want to call names cause I'll leave someone out. Some have left us. No matter what has happened in a given day, you can be there to help others no matter what your day has been like. You all have been an inspiration to me and I wouldn‘t trade the memories for anything in the world.. Thanks Katie and Rick. You go above and beyond in keeping this site going. Said I would not mention names so I'll shut up. As long as you can put up with me, I intend to stick around.

Thanks for reading this lengthy message and I hope it gives someone a ray of hope as to what the future may hold.

  7. This is a long story but I will try to make it short and get to the point. I have been trying to take care of a relitive for the past 4 years. He was not an invilid until about 6 months ago. During this 3 years, I have been the only family he has known. He does not have a Living Will. We have talked about it in past but he never expressed a preference to me. Last week he was sent to ER. He almost died while I was inroute to hosp. They called me and said he was dropping fast and what did I want them to do. His doctor was calling on the other line for me. I ask given his medical history, was the ventilator the best for him. He said he thought he could come off in 4-5 days.Today makes 6 days.

I have one doctor telling me to seek hospice. His medical doctor tells me he still believes he will come off life support. Here is my question for you caregivers. All of a sudden there are relitives that had all but vanished for these years. Nieces, nephews, and 2 sisters. Oh he told them years ago that he did not want the machine and all that. They are pusing for me to stop treatment for him. I have made his arrangements for him and given him an extra grave vault that I had. None of the relitives stand to gain from his passing, so that is not the deal.

Have any of you been in this position? I am about ready to pack and leave town and head to the mountains and tell the others "there it is, you handle it".

Perhaps if I disapear then Ry won't fine me to bad. Thanks for your input and listening.
