  1. I remember the Carfate all to well. Oncologist gave me a bottle of it and also a bottle of Magic Mouthwash. Neither bottle lasted me long because I ....yep you guessed it....down the toilet it went.

    On a more serious side tho. I would spray Chloraseptic in my throat. It nummed it for a while. The thing that did the most good for me was what the doctor called "GI Coctail." No, I don't think it had alcohl in it but then again it was possible. I think it may have been what Jen described above.

    "masspa"]

    Mom found that the carafate helped, but she also took a mix of 1:1:1 Lidocaine:benadryl:maalox.

    Wishing your mom the best of luck and keep us posted.

  2. Gosh. This is a hard one. There are so many people now as well as the past. So many have been an inspiration to me. I am scared that if I start calling names that I will leave someone out. I will say thyat what makes this board special is that there are so many caring people here that are willing to help others when they need it.

    What if instead of calling names I simply say EVERYBODY!

    Thanks for being here to support one another.

  3. I can relate to this post real well. Before the treatments started, I had a good sense of memory. I can still say tht I have that today. I can name off things about the past that others have forgotten. I can go back and tell you what year things happened etc.

    Now my comprension is another thing. I have to read the same paragraph in the newspaper several times to comperhend what it is saying. My wife and family have to tell me things several times before I can get it to sink in. You may tell me something today and I ask the same question again, possibly several times. Is it my hearing? Did I not hear you or is it my memory...forgetting that I ask you? I can't really say that it is either one except that what you told me didn't sink in.

    Now on the other hand, the thing that sinks in real well is if someone mentions Dollywood. That I can hear well. :lol:

    Thanks for bringing this one up Connie. I have thought of posting this to see the response of others.I am looking forward to hearing more on this.

  4. I also remember when Frank would type in CAPITAL LETTERS. I remember when he first learned to Cut - Copy - Paste. He eventually learned to type better but still didn't hit spacebar between sentence. Do you remember when he learned to post a picture? He had a ball with that. Posting the results of the joke contest gave him a boost also.

    I will remember him most for his strength and the ability to give us support, even when he was down. He even tried to give us hope in his last post while knowing he wasn't doing well himself. Rest in Peace my friend.

    Frank, I know you are laughing and sharing those jokes with David A and TBone.

  5. I have been away for a while and didn't expect to find this when I signed on tonight. My condolences go to Frank's daughters and Connie. I know Frank will be missed here with his sense of humor. Rest in peace my friend.

  6. Thanks Shirley. I have a close friend that lost her mother in a house fire last week. I am sending this to her. we never know when we post something who it is going to help do we?

    Glad to see you posting again. BTW...I still have the post that you wrote long ago that Randy wrote...Last Chance. I use it a lot. Maybe you could repost it for the newer ones here.

  7. Hi and Welcome. I understand what you are going through. First of all...slow down and take in a deep breath. I know the feeling to have to wait. I know how you feel wanting to start knocking the dickens out of this beast called cancer.

    There are many different types and combinations to fighting this. Be patient. Let the doctors get all the information to get the right plan of attack in place. A PET scan is necessary in order to determine if it has spread to other places and to determine what type of treatments/chemo to treat it with.

    NSCLC is slow growing and has probably been growing for several years without you being aware of it. 3cm is equal to about 1 inch. Mine was 7 cm. I was dx in 3-03 and had surgery 6-03. I had my left lung removed. My first thought was...Hey come on let's get this thing out.

    If you are not comfortable by all means get a second opinion. Get a 3rd if necessary until you are satisfied.

    Come back and let us know the results of PET and plan of attack. we are here to help you if possible. Good Luck.

  8. I too have been watching for an update from you. You still have your sense of humor and that is great. Hang in there and post when you can. I am standind in one corner with my boxing gloves on and Snowflake is in the other corner with her ballbat. If that "fat lady" comes near where you are we will whop her one. :twisted:

    Take care and post when you feel like it.

  9. With all the SPAM going on within the board right now I wanted to remind everyone to check your virus scan. Also keep it updated. We don't need anyone disapearing because of computer going down. If you don't have one there are some free ones on the net. I will look for them and post back in case anybody needs one.

    Don't these sick jerks think we have enough to deal with without dropping this on our plates?

  10. I currently work part-time.

    Do I like it.... At times.

    Why do I work.... To get out of the house and try to stay busy. I have worke sience I was 14 and somehow not working just doesn't fit into my life. I draw my SSDI but I can use the extra money to supplement my check.

  11. A new teacher was trying to make use of her psychology courses. She started her class by saying, "Everyone who thinks they're stupid, stand up!"

    After a few seconds, Little Johnny stood up. The teacher said, "Do you think you're stupid, Little Johnny?" "No, ma'am, but I hate to see you standing there all by yourself!"

    * * * * * * * * * * *

    Little Johnny watched, fascinated, as his mother smoothed cold cream on her face. "Why do you do that, mommy?" he asked. "To make myself beautiful," said his mother, who then began removing the cream with a tissue. "What's the matter?" asked Little Johnny, "Giving up?"

    * * * * * * * * * * *

    The math teacher saw that little Johnny wasn't paying attention in class. She called on him and said, "Johnny! What are 2 and 4 and 28 and 44?" Little Johnny quickly replied, "NBC, FOX, ESPN and the Cartoon Network!"

    * * * * * * * * * * *

    Little Johnny's kindergarten class was on a field trip to their local police station where they saw pictures tacked to a bulletin board of the 10 most wanted criminals. One of the youngsters pointed to a picture and asked if it really was the photo of a wanted person. "Yes," said the policeman. "The detectives want very badly to capture him." Little Johnny asked, "Why didn't you keep him when you took his picture?"

    * * * * * * * * * * *

    Little Johnny attended a horse auction with his father. He watched

    as his father moved from horse to horse, running his hands up and down the horse's legs and rump, and chest. After a few minutes, Johnny asked, "Dad,

    why are you doing that?" His father replied,

    "Because when I'm buying horses, I have to make sure that they are healthy and in good shape before

    I buy. Johnny, looking worried, said, "Dad, I think the UPS guy wants to buy Mom."

    Have a nice day. :lol::lol::lol::lol:
