  2. Marci, I am so very sorry to hear of your mothers passing. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences. May each and every day bring you strength and peace. You and your family will be in my prayers during this most difficult time. Teresa
  3. Shelli: I am currently reading this series also. I just started New Moon this weekend. Very good!!!! I also love James Pattersons books. Teresa
  4. I posted on Sept. 6 that dad was admitted to the hospital for pnuemonia. After a nightmarish stay in our local hospital for a week, dad refused further treatment there and was transported via ambulance to Johns Hopkins where his surgery was done in May. I followed the ambulance up Friday morning (80 mph in the pouring rain I might add!! )so I could take mom since we did not know how long he would be there. They performed a bronchoscopy as soon as we got there and withdrew fluid from his lung for testing. They took chest x-rays, ct scans, ultra sounds, and what felt like a million different blood tests. Long story short....dad has pnuemonia and is still cancer free!!!! Praise the Lord!!! We were scared out of our minds during this whole process. Mom and dad are driving home as I type this and we are so very grateful for him being blessed. Thanks for all the prayers. Blessings, Teresa

    .....NED......

Ken, So very happy for you on being NED!!!!! Prayers for safety during the impending storm. Blessings, Teresa
  6. Thank you all so much for your prayers. This is why I can't let go of this website. So much compassion for someone you have never met. Dad is still in the hospital. He has bacterial pnuemonia and they were awaiting some blood tests so they could determine whether or not to change his antibiotics. They made a change this afternoon and he said he is feeling better and hopes to be released tomorrow. But that is what they told him last night. We are all to familiar with how that works!! My son and I have both been sick with colds and have not been able to visit him in the hospital. That makes it hard as well, especially when I am only 2 miles away!! I have been there for everything he has had done and I feel like I am deserting him. I know he is ok with it, but I feel guilty. Thanks again, Teresa
  7. Haven't posted here in quite some time, but visit almost everyday. Dad has been doing so well over the past several months since his surgery. He was talking last weekend when he went camping with us that he would be going back to work in a few weeks. However; this afternoon mom called and said that she was taking dad to the emergency room because he had been coughing and had a fever of 103. They did a chest x-ray and he has the early stages of pnuemonia. They admitted him for the rest of the weekend to administer antibiotics and fluids. The docs said they were glad he came in as quickly as he did so they were able to start treating it early. It is just all so raw the emotions that we all go through each time we or our loved ones suffer one of these setbacks. I feel like we will forever be "stalked" by cancer. Dads fever was down some this evening and he was finally settled in his room, please if you can spare a few words of prayer for him. Mom said that he cried the whole way to the hospital, saying over and over again...."I can't go through this again, I just can't do it anymore." Thank you. Teresa

    Basically NED

Ken, I am so glad to "see" you back and to hear that everything is going so well. I had always followed your posts closely because your history was so very similar to my dads and I was starting to worry about ya. Take care and keep us posted. Teresa
  9. (((Patti))) WOO-HOO!!! I was so happy for you when I saw....STABLE!!!! Enjoy your summer with Nick!!! (and hubby too, of course. ) Teresa
  10. (((Dar))) I am so very sorry for your loss. May God grant you peace in the coming days. You have my heartfelt sympathy. Teresa
  11. Kelly: My dad had is right middle and lower lobes and surrounding lymph nodes removed on May 2, 2008. He was in the hospital for 10 days, and they had him up and walking the day after surgery. Not far but his distance improved each day. Before he left for surgery we set up the hospital bed downstairs because we didn't know whether he would be able to do steps when he came home. (he has 7 steps to get to the upstairs). So he had the options of the hospital bed and the recliner on the main floor to rest and sleep in. He tackled those steps the day after he came home because he wanted to take a shower. He took it slow and steady but he did it. He now does the stairs 2 or 3 times a day. The doctors told him they wanted him to attempt the steps as soon as he got home. As for sitting at your computer...The only thing that dad can still do is to sit in an upright position. When he lays to flat he coughs to bad. He does "sleep" propped up in the hospital bed at night but during the day he is setting out on the deck or at the kitchen table. He just uses pillows under his hiney and behind his back. This isn't the recovery that the doctors told us it would be, but I put some of the blame on dad. He walks, but not as much as I think he should. He did say last night that he was going to contact the local rehab/therapy here to see if they can help him get going in the right direction. So my biggest advice is to walk, walk, walk. For the first while take your pain medication on time, not when you start to feel pain, and to use your spirometer every hour. Prayers for a successful surgery and quick recovery. Keep us posted. Teresa
  12. Mary: I am not able to answer your question as I find myself in a similar position with my dad. On May 2 he had RLL & RML's and surrounding lymph nodes removed as well. Surgeon told us after surgery that he felt sure they would find cancer cells in the lymph nodes as they were still swollen, and that he would need more chemo in about 6 weeks. Well the biopsies came back negative for cancer anywhere...the surgeon had them tested twice because he didn't believe the results. So now we don't know what they will suggest since his Pet scan prior to surgery showed cancer no where else either. Dad goes back for his post-op with the doctor tomorrow, so I guess we will know then. As you are aware the recovery is very painful; however, for the most part dad is doing really well. The pain and the coughing are decreasing each day. He isn't getting up and walking as much as I think he should, but he is scared he will not be able to breathe. (his oxygen levels have been between 95 and 100 percent since surgery?) I guess the thing that concerns me most right now is that he seems to be getting very depressed. It seems like forever since I have seen him smile. I think it is like you said, he went into surgery feeling great and came out in all this pain. This has been the first thing for dad since he found out he had cancer that has made him feel any kind of physical problems. The chemo and radiation were very easy for him. Anyway, enough about me. I will let you know what he finds out tommorrow. I wish continued recovery for your husband. Let him know that each day it does get better. I will add you both to my prayers. Teresa
  13. Rain, wind, rain, cold, and did I mention RAIN?!? Teresa
  14. WOO-HOO!!!!! Congratulations on the wonderful news. God is good. Continued Blessings, Teresa
  15. Mr boss, as well as my friend, came back from vacation today only to receive a call from her doctor that they wanted to see her this afternoon. The news was she has aggressive cervical cancer. She will go next week for tests to see if it has spread so they can determine treatment. As you all know, she is devestated. She asked us all at work not to feel sorry for her, just to pray for her. She is always so strong and takes care of everyone else, now is my turn to be strong for her. Teresa

    Update on dad

Dad had his surgery on May 2 and returned home on May 11. (What a wonderful Mothers Day present for me!!!) They ended up having to remove 2 lobes instead of 1 due to the radiation damage, so the 3 to 4 hour surgery ended up taking 6 to 7 hours. He was up walking a little the next day and off of oxygen. He had some problems with irregular heartbeat from the trauma of the surgery, but once that was regulated everything went well. Every day is a steady progression of recovery. He is still coughing quite a bit which is painful, but expected. I am so surprised how fast he is recovering. To look at him you would never know that he just went through a major surgery. (He liked all the nurses in the hospital telling him how great he looked!! ) His surgeon called him at home on Monday and told him that he couldn't believe the results from the biopsy of the 2 lobes and lymph nodes that were removed, so he had them test them again.....NO SIGNS OF CANCER!!!! (Do I actually get to say NED?!?!) He, of course, could not promise him that the cancer would not come back, but told him he had as good a chance as anyone to beat this!!! So we thank God for his blessings and will enjoy each day and take it one day at a time. Thank all of those who prayed for my father and my family. Dad firmly believes that his faith has brought him this far. Teresa

    Prayers for dad

I just want to ask for your thoughts and prayers for my dad (Jerry) in the morning (Friday, May 2, 2008) as he undergoes surgical removal of the upper right lobe. His surgery is scheduled to begin at 7:30 am. Thank you, Teresa
  18. Hi guys. I haven't posted here in a while, but I do visit almost daily. I won't bore you all with all the details from the past several months, as for the most part everything has been pretty good. Dad had his Petscan on March 27 and the results were very good. Tumor unable to be seen, improvment in lymph nodes, slight plueral effusion. Dad was given several options as far as what his choices were as far as treatment from that point, with the best option (in my opinion) removal of the right upper lobe. We all told dad that the decision was his to make and that we loved and respected whatever choice he made. He chose surgery, but because it is what he feels that he "has" to do for everyone else. So to say the least the past week has been very stressful for everyone involved. Dad is scared beyond words, mom is losing her mind trying to put dad at ease, my son is acting out because he is scared, I feel like a puppet on a string being pulled in every direction... Cancer SUCKS!! His surgery is scheduled for this Friday (May 2) morning at 7:30am at Johns Hopkins. As each day gets closer to the surgery I am more and more frightened of all the unknowns that lie ahead. Please keep my father and my family in your prayers. Blessings, Teresa
  19. Susan: I'm kinda a neighbor as well. I live in Harrisonburg, VA, which is about 1 1/2 hours from you. My dad has his "main" docs at Johns Hopkins as well and they are consulting with the docs here locally. We will be making the drive up to Hopkins this coming Thursday for ct and pet scans since dad is finished with his chemo and radiation. Praying for a surgical option!!! I hope that all is going well with you on your journey. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Teresa

  22. Absolutley must have my own pillow to sleep on. I have to take my sons as well because he has allergies and his bed and pillows are all encased. I know that I would forget to take the encasings off, so I just take everybodies pillows. Teresa
