  1. Hi Nicole Sorry to hear that your Mom's " big break " is not going as you had hoped. I think until you get scan's done it is difficult to guess at what may be the cause. I think the new normal is the usual after you fight this beast. even when you win, it takes it's toll on your body. Maybe your expectations for your Mom are based on pre treatment and may not be realistic now ? Maybe it is a result of that thing which catches up with all of us....age. There could be a number of reason's for it but I can understand that your first thought's would be cancer related. Take care Nicole and please keep us updated. I am sure she still has her great sense of humor.

    Intro

Hi JRx Sorry you have a reason to be here. I was also 47 when I was diagnosed and I can certainly relate to the shock your family is dealing with. As other's have said, it does get easier once a plan is in place. Then you go from confusion into a fighting mode. This is a great site for support and information. Please keep us updated and post any questions you have. I'm sure some members will have answer's for you. take care.
  3. Denise, my sincere condolences to you and your family.
  4. Hi Matt Welcome to this great site. I had a lobectomy in Sept. 2007. I am sure your next scans will be clear as well. Please keep posting.
  5. Judy thanks for offering to share those words of wisdom. Some of us can use all the help we can get. LOL Now Linda, being from Alberta, I'm sure you know what I mean. LOL Well really nice day here in the knife. Maybe around -15C.

Welcome to this great site but sorry you had a reason to find us. Sounds like your Dad was very fortunate for it to be found so early. Mine was also discovered early enough for surgery. You did not mention if your dad had a PET scan done to determine if it was malignant or not. Mine was too small for a biopsy and the PET scan was inconclusive. In my case they did a wedge resection and removed the spot which was on the surface of the lung. They looked at it under a microscope in the operating room and determined that it looked suspicious. So they removed my upper left lobe by VATS. I was released from the hospital on the third day and flew 900 miles to my hometown. The following day I even dropped into my work to say hello to everyone. Within 2 weeks I was taking very little pain medication at all. Please keep us updated.
  7. Welcome Kat. That is such great news to hear. This is a great site with very supportive members. Good news stories such as your's always provides encouragement especially to new members. Please keep posting.
  8. Hi ts I think working during chemo may be different for everyone. I had 4 rounds of chemo and found that fatigue got worse with each round. There was a gentleman next to me that would take chemo day off but go back to work the next day. I think it effects everyone different. I can also understand your desire to have some kind of normalcy in your life by going back to work. For me I think sitting around the house and having too much time to think was more difficult than the physical side effects of chemo. Fortunately my boss's wife was also dealing with cancer and he was very supportive. My insurance covered my salary but he made it clear that I could go into work and " volunteer " whenever I felt up to it.
  9. Hi Sorry you have a reason to be here as well. You will receive lots of support from members here. They will also pass along their experiences to your questions. Tarceva has been called a miracle drug by some members on here. Hopefully it will work just as well for your Dad so that he will have lots of time to spend with his grandkids. Please keep posting and keep us updated.
  10. Happy belated birthday Shelli !!!!!! Great pic too.
  11. Mrs Krauss Welcome to this great site.I think it was very fortunate that your Mom was diagnosed early enough to have surgery. I too had a lobectomy and my chest tube was removed on the third day. I never had any of the problems your Mom had. I agree with everyone else in suggesting another Doctor. This guy may be respected in the medical community but he has made too many mistakes with your Mom. Take care and please let us know how things are going it.
  12. Well Judy my avatar is of a billboard showing the temperature of -47. It wasn't snowing but there was plenty of ice fog.
  13. It sounds like your Doctor is not satisfied with partial good news. It is good that he is being aggressive and trying another chemo combination to even improve the results. They have medication to deal with nausea from chemo drugs. I had some ringing in the ears from Cisplatin and have heard the same comment from other's as well.
  14. Hi Kristin Sorry to hear about your Dad and that you have a reason to be here. You will certainly find great support from the members here. they are also very knowledgeable so if you have any questions, just post them and I'm sure someone can help with an answer. If you read some of the forums, you will also see there are good news stories here as well.
  15. Hi Mary Welcome to this great site. I will share a little of my story with you. I had some chest pain and after 3 weeks my daughter made an appointment with a GP. One of the test was a chest x-ray and 2 months later I was told they found a spot about the size of a pea on the surface of my left lung. I had alot of test over the next 6 months but they could not determine with 100% certainty if it was malignant or not. I lost my Mother and Brother to L/C so I told them I wanted it removed. Even on the operating table. the thoracic surgeon was still telling me it was not cancer. He removed the spot during they surgery and it looked suspicious so he removed the upper lobe. It was cancer. I am praying that your's is not. But just wanted to share my experience with you. A lobectomy is major surgery and I'm sure everyone especially you want to avoid it if possible. So I agree with the testing to be certain. Mine was too small to do a biopsy. I am not sure if you can give yourself symptoms but I do know for sure that every little ache and pain you have, you can find a way to relate it to L/C. While going through that wait and see period if I have a pain in my big toe, I find a way to think it may be L/C. Of course it would not have anything to do with me stubbing it on the stairs yesterday. Take care and please keep us updated.
  16. Well Judy I think everyone is having a party today because there is no one on here. LOL And that is great. LOL Well it is really nice in the knife today. Somewhere around -20 and it is a light snow falling. When snow is falling this time of the year it is a good day because normally it is too cold. Soon be time to go ice fishing. Planning on going to the farm next weekend as well. Just to do some nice snowmobiling in all that fresh powder.
  17. Thanks Linda for posting this. We met Corrinne a year ago. A lady who did everything she could to lead a healthy lifestyle but this disease still snuck up on her. Will be sending prayers for her.
  18. Well that may be a first Kneesaa!! At least you had a laugh out of it and folks at the clinic will probably be repeating that story for years to come all the while getting a chuckle out of it. LOL I'm sure your husbands telling of the story of your phone call requesting cloths, will also get a few laugh's. So as long as you are physically OK, everyone will laugh about it for year's to come. LOL
  19. Now I can just imagine you ladies together for four hours !!! LOL And yes it will be great to see the pic.
  20. Now take it easy tiger!!! Listen to them for 30 seconds...then give it to them !
  21. Great news Muriel!!!! I'll drink to that.
  22. Do you mean Judy that there are not as many snowbirds around as usual ? LOL Well if you are not at chat tonight, take care and have a great trip. Oh and have fun at your luncheon.

    Still waiting

Hi Dana Dana no matter what age we are, we will always need our parents. My Mom passed away from L/C over 10 years ago. Reading your story brings back memories for me. I moved to the opposite end of Canada so we talked on the phone alot. Whenever I answered the phone, she would begin the conversation with " yeah......" There are times even now I answer the phone and I expect to hear that word beginning a sentence. But when that thought crosses my mind now I smile because I remember those times fondly. Whenever you are feeling down, just talk to your Mom. I'm sure she is watching over you. Take care Dana.
  24. Well Judy you could easily pass for 40 in your avatar. But now that was before the TWO glasses of wine. LOL
  25. Now Judy my 1/2 day off was not because of self inflicted partying. LOL I wait til the Stanley Cup playoffs. LOL
