  1. Thank you for your responses. I posted on cancergrace.org.....hopefully Dr. West will have some more information for me. Thanks again.....
  2. My Mom got her results back from her first round of Chemo and Radiation. It looks like the majority of the cancer is gone (which we are very happy about) except for one area. The area that is still lighting up in the PET scan is a small area of nodular metabolic uptake in the right peritracheal region. There seems to be no protocol as what the next step should be. Her doctor has mentioned a few options at this point. The two options that she is suggesting is either surgery to go in and try to remove what is left or (SRS) stereo tactic radio surgery. I was hoping that some of you may have more information or recommendations on what to do next. We have an appointment next Thursday with her doctor so I would even be open to suggestions on what type of questions I should be asking when we go in so that we can make the most educated decision. Also, has anyone had SRS and has it been successful? I am sorry for all the questions I am just trying to gather as much information as possible. Thank you for always being there!!
  3. Thank you all so much for your information. I will begin the inquiry in to SSI and SSD. So far Mom still has a job but she is about to start another round of Chemo soon so we'll see what happens. You are all in my thoughts!!
  4. My mom just recently finished radiation to the center of the chest and she did pretty well. About halfway through it started getting hard for her to swallow some foods. She had to eat soft foods such as mashed potatoes and shakes. She also felt like she had a lump in her through/esophagus area which she said was uncomfortable. I think the side effects were worse with the chemo (but everyone is different). I hope this information is helpful!
  5. Thank you all for your responses!! Patti: I will keep you in my prayers that everything with your husbands job goes okay. Hopefully, it will work out for all of us!!
  6. Well, the company hasn't been doing well. It is a very small company and they are struggling to stay afloat. They were told just to have all their ducks in a row just in case. She is also concerned that if she has to take off more time that they may choose to let her go over some of the other employees just due the fact that she keeps taking time off. Nothing is set in stone yet...I was just hoping to see what I could do to help her out if this does happen. If she gets let go or they close the doors she will have no insurance and no income.
  7. Update: Mom is doing pretty good. She just finished first round of Chemo and radiation. She is getting physically stronger but mentally I think she is a little depressed. I think it is the waiting of the results that are getter to her. The fear of the unknown.... Question: Mom could possible lose her job in the next few months. I wanted to be proactive and see if anyone has any advice of how we will be able to get her decent insurance that we can afford and if there is anywhere to get financial assistance if this scenario does play out. She is only 57 so she will not qualify for Medicare and Cobra will be really costly on top of trying to keep her mortgage and bills paid without a job. I was just hoping that someone would have some advice.
  8. Hello all! I haven't been on in a while as we have been busy getting mom her treatment. She just had her last dose of cisplatin on Monday and has about 8 radiation sessions left. She is tired and weak but doing her best to get through the end of this. Her question to you all is when will she start to fell "normal" again? And when will her tastebuds get back to normal? It has been a chore for her to eat. Any input would be appreciated!! My thoughts and prayers are with everyone!
  9. Thank you all for your insight. I am so scared of the future but know that I have to be strong for my mom. I am so glad I found this website as I don't think many people really understand how it feels to see someone you love SO MUCH go through this! Wishing all of you and your families the very best!! Happy Holidays!
  10. Good for you Bruce!! I say be aggressive! My thoughts and prayers are with you!
