  1. I hope the second round does it for him! He is in my prayers. God Bless, MO
  2. Hot Days / Cold Days / Hot AND Cold days/ fatigue / all common side effects and all will go away when treatment is completed. As has been said, it is just proof that the chemo is doing something. Hair loss was hard to take BUT it grows back and you can always start a pool to see what color it will come back as and if it will be curley or straight! Mine came back pure white the first time and is almost black this time (and I have dyed it red for so many years THIS is hard to get used to). Your wife and family are in my prayers! God Bless, MO
  3. When my sclc came back they gave me one dose of Topotecan and then changed me to Carbo / Taxol with the Taxol every week and the Carbo every 3rd week. It has helped with my lymph nodes but not so much with my liver so far. I have been lucky (thank you God) to not have much pain but when I do I take Darvocet-N 100 and it seems to take it away. Your Mom and family will be in my prayers. God Bless, MO
  4. Star, DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO STATISTICS! According to the "statistics" I died 3 months ago (or longer). They are old, out of date and mean very little today. As long as your Dad is breathing there is hope! SO many things have changed. I was dx'd with sclc last year. Had chemo and went in to remission, had pci and came out of remission with mets to lymph and liver and have been on a new round of chemo since but I AM STILL HERE! I enjoy every day I have and live each day as if it is a gift (which it is). There is treatment for your Dad if it is what he wants. You will be in my prayers, MO
  5. Welcome to the family. I am sorry you have to be here but glad you found us. I am also in my 40's and have been fighting this beast for almost a year. Good news is I AM STILL HERE TO FIGHT IT!! Please do not pay attention to the statistics. Be sure your Mom's medical team is willing to be aggresive (if that is what she wants) and she has a good chance of fighting this. We are all here for each other so please, don't be a stranger and invite your Mom to visit if she like also. You are in my prayers, God Bless, MO
  6. Glad you are empty headed!!! God Bless, MO
  7. Wonderful news! Prayers continue! God Bless, MO
  8. Sweetie, I lost both my parents within 6 months of each other. My Mom in Oct of 1992 and my Dad in March of 1993 and I still miss them all the time! I can tell you the crushing pain will diminish with time but the pain of losing them will always be there. I catch myself once in awhile picking up the phone to call me Mom ( boy I don't want THAT long Distance bill) and then it hits me that I can't call her. I just sit down and "talk" to her and that helps a lot. Time is the only thing that will help and I am praying for strength and healing for you. God Bless, MO
  9. I get a chest x-ray each month, a CT scan every 3 months, a blood test every week and a liver profile every 4th week. Had an MRI and bone scan at dx but not since. So far this has been telling them what they need to know to be able to treat me. Prayers and good wishes being sent your way. God Bless, MO
  10. Usually burping is caused when we swallow to much air either in eating, drinking or when we talk. In my case, it comes whenever I eat green veggies (always) or oriental foods. Best wishes, MO
  11. Prayers and best wishes that this Dr. is THE Dr. for you! God Bless, MO
  12. Prayers for a quick recovery being sent your way. Congrats on the Relay! God Bless, MO
  13. (((((Ginny))))), I am so sorry things are down for you right now! Be sure they check Duke's blood counts! It could be he is running a quart low and just needs a refill or maybe he picked up one of the bugs running around right now. I felt like cra* on Tuesday but I am feeling like dancing today! The Duke, your sister, your friend and YOU are all in my prayers sweetie. Hang in there and there are lots of ears and shoulders here when you need them! God Bless, MO
  14. Angel, GET A SECOND OPINION! Just because the cancer is in other parts of the body should not mean they can't do chemo. In fact chemo would be better than radiation in getting to the other areas! I have mets to the liver and lymphs and am getting chemo. Most people who have mets get chemo and they respond pretty well. I think your dad needs to look at geting a better medical team together to help him fight this cause it can be fought! Prayers for strength and healing headed your way! God Bless, MO
  15. Prayers sent for it to have been just a "bug"! Let us know! God Bless, MO

    ok guys...

I feel like I know a lot of the people who come here. We share so much that we don't share with IRL (In Real Life) friends it just makes it easier to talk to them. I know I am addicted to the board as I have gotten caught a couple of times at work typing messages and when I travel I always end up spending $10 to get online from some hotel room to check the board, lol. I find myself thinking that Snow is going to get a kick out of this or Donna is going to think I am nuts or whatever, lol. You are certainly NOT alone in your feelings!! God Bless, MO
  17. Not only can reading your own scans drive you nuts but a "new" tech can also drive you nuts. I had one look at an x-ray and come out to ask me if I was missing a lung! I actually had a major pleural effusion where the entire lung was "hidden" but it set be back a few minutes when she asked the question! Let the "Big Boys" do the reading cause thats what we are paying the "BIG BUCKS" for!! God Bless, MO
  18. Have a wonderful trip and say Hi to Minnie for me! God Bless, MO
  19. Wonderful news and a great way to start the day! Hope all testing comes out clean and they are able to treat (and beat) this beast! God Bless, MO
  20. Shar, Only you can decide what is best or you. Yes it hurts like hades when your esophogus is involved but it goes away! I haven't noticed any SOB since radiation since they radiated a limited field. I would check in to it again as it really does seem to offer the best chance of stability or remission. Best wishes headed your way! God Bless, MO
  21. Shar, In my case I wasn't so worried about pallitive care, I just wanted the tumor GONE. I think there are actually very few cases where the tumor returns in the same spot once it has been treated with chemo and radiation. In most cases there is an amount of scar tissue left aftet treatment (may diminish with time). What is it that you have heard that is keeping you from getting the treatment? Everyone I talked with before and after radiation has had some side effects but they we basically "minor" when compared with the destruction of the tumor. Esophogus pain is the BIG side effect but it goes away. Prayers for strength and healing being sent your way! God Bless, MO

    Iressa

    Wonderful news!!! God Bless, MO
  23. That is good news. I hope they can locate the cause of the pain and she can start to eat again! Ativan has helped me a time or two when I wasn't able to eat. God Bless, MO
  24. Congratulations Ray on a job well done! Our Relay for Life is in August and I just spoke with the coordinator yesterday about setting up a booth. She was all for it so I hope to be able to contribute that way. She also invited me to an event on the 22nd of this month for survivors which I hope to be able to attend. God Bless, MO
