  1. Hi Kelley I had surgery ( removal of upper left lobe - stage 1A ) on Dec 11th and was released from the hospital on the 16th. I'm still off from work but plan on being back to work by Jan 21st. I found that I was ( and still am )in some pain ( mostly when coughing or laughing )but not as bad as I had anticipated. Definitely get out of breath fairly easily but working on that. My best advice would be to use your pain meds and do your breathing exercises.
  2. Hi everyone Well Im back from my surgery ( 12/11 ) Got home yesterday ( 12/16) Have to commend my wife on her driving skills during our winter storm. They removed the upper left node and had a small (< 2cm tumor ) Was classified as stage 1A.They mentioned a lot more information that I'll need to do some internet searching on but every thing sounds very positive At this point it seems there will be no need for any chemo or radiation therapy, So I feel VERY fortunate. Post operative pain is actually less than I had anticipated ( except when I cough ). I have my first appointment with my Dr. on 12/28 and I'm sure I'll find out much more. I feel a need to acknowledge a great staff at Strong Memorial Hospital. They treated me great and and handled an admittably squeemish patient with fantastic professionalism and care. Also thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers. Well I just wanted to give you all an update and I'll keep everyone informed Take Care Jim
  3. Hi everyone just found this site. My name is Jim and I'm 53 married with 1 son ( 26 ) Had a bad case of flu at the end of October and went too see my doctor who sent me for a chest X ray Noted a small spot on upper left lobe and then went for ct scan which revealed a small 1.9 cm nodule Pet scan showed that spot ( thankfully no others ) as hot. Went for a Bronchoscopy/ biopsy 12/10 but unfortunately could not get to the tumor and lung collapsed ( got to spend an unexpected night at hospital ) Now will be going in for Surgery tomorow ( 12/11 ) for VAS at which point they'll do biopsy and if cancerous proceed to remove upper left node. At this point Drs' are saying stage 1 if it turns out cancerous Well thats it for now will let you know how things are when I get back home from surgery Thanks for taking the time to read Jim
  4. Hello everyone just ran across this forum, ( wish I had found it sooner ) Anyways I'm going for surgery tomorrow and a you can imagine a bit nervous. Going to have VAS for biopsy (collapssed lung during attempted Bronchoscopy ) and they'll remove upper left node if it proves cancer Cat scan and Pet scan shows small < 2 cm mass So I guess I'm quite lucky to have it detected at such an early stage. Thanks for reading Take care Jim
