  1. I have just had a call from the Oncologist to say that I will start radiotherapy next week. He seemed happy with the recent scans and x-rays after just 2 rounds of chemo, but I dont know why he is starting it so soon. He had said at the beginning of treatment that I would only have radiotherapy after about 3 or four rounds of chemo, and only if the tumor had shrunk. Can anyone tell me what to expect from the radiotherapy regarding side effects, and if it will improve the SOB, congestion and cough, which are a problem at the moment.
  2. I spoke to the Oncologist today, he had my x-rays looked at by a very experienced radiologist. He confirmed that the main tumor had possibly shrunk, but I also had a few spots which are all now "gone" Apart from the chemo and hospital treatment, I have also been visiting a spiritual healer for the last few weeks, and have started homeopathic treatment. It is very early in my treatment, so I will not get too carried away, but I was quite encouraged. I will continue to trust in God and hope for the best.
  3. I resigned from my job last month, after discussion with my employer. They had been paying my salary all the time I was off and it could not last forever. There is no way I could even consider working now.
  4. Hi Allie My heart goes out to you. I have 2 daughters (one your age) and a son. My wife died just 2 years ago and now I will be joining her sooner or later, it is just so hard for them to take in. You and your mum are in my prayers.
  5. I started chemo yesterday,I am being treated with Gemcarbo and had the first half of the first cycle. I have to have 3-4 cycles. Luckily I still have private medical insurance, so everything is being done quickly and the hospital is very comfortable. I did not find the treatment all that bad, but realise that any side effects could be delayed. My wife died 2 years ago, but I am lucky I have my 2 daughters and son and 6 grandchildren around, so I am not often alone. I do feel for people who have to go through this on thier own. Thanks again everyone for the support.
  6. Thank you so much everyone for your replies, its comforting to know I am not alone. After a couple of good days, during which I done too much, I had a really bad night and still feel awful today. I suppose I need to take it easy. The doctor phoned yesterday and my chemo is to start on Wed 2/6/08, but I am to meet him first the evening before and he will explain the procedure. I will post again and keep in touch.
  7. After months of being unwell and even having a chest x-ray which showed clear, I have been diagnosed with nsclc (squamous cell carcinoma)probably stage IIIb. I had an MRI scan and subsequent bronchoscopy, and finally had it confirmed yesterday. I also had a brain scan which was clear. (thank God) Surgery is not possible, but the consultant thinks that radiotherapy and chemotherapy will help to shrink it and improve life quality. He is arranging this to start next week, but I am really terrified of the treatment. I will probably reluctantly have the treatment, but would be grateful for any advice on this. I have been browsing this forum for a few days and find it very helpful.
