Thank you to all who responded so tenderly to my message. Not long after posting my fathers oncologist called with the news that a tumor 10 cm in size was located in the exact spot where he had the surgery. The last ct scan was done in Oct. So it grew to that size in 4 months. I was so shocked I couldn't even cry. Today I woke up feeling angry. My parents are still positive and willing to fight. His Dr. wants to start chemo asap but I still do not know details. Again thank you to all who took time to send kind thoughts and words. Dean Carl... First off thank God you survived the fires out there. Your inquiry got my attention. My father was diagnosed with nslc 1/03 with a nodule, he had a loebctomy in 4/03 and we were given a clear. However in 7/03 at his first follow up ct and pet activity showed in his lymphnodes and the whole picture changed. At that point my sisters and I researched tirelessly for nutritional info. There are so many resources out there for support, nutritionally while going thru treatment or even post /pre treatment. My dad is on about 25 different vitamin therapies. Oct 7 another malignant tumor showed in his trachea and a stint was inserted. We now must face Chemo and I truly beleive the vitamins and juicing is keeping him very strong. He has not declined in health at all since January! Some of the supplements we use include: Nonni juice, green vegetable juicing 2x a day, selenium, coQ10 Risheki mushroom , and an entire vitamin therapy regimine by a Dr. Rath, search the web for his site, they will personalize a recipe for your specific condition. My father is on his second round and the pulmonologist sees no advancement from the nodes since 7/03! Good Luck God be with you and try to use nature in conjunction with conventional treatment.

Does anyone have any information on Radiosurgery (Fractionated Stereotactice Radiosurgery)? Is it the same thing as Radio Frequency? How new is it? Is is considered a clinical trial? My Father can not do radiation because his lungs are in bad shape. His oncologist said Chemo is his only option to possibly shrink cancer cells and then maybe radiation in the future. I was hoping Radiosurgery might be another option for him. Thank you in advance.

In January, my father was going in for a knee replacement. A routine cat scan found a tumor (nodule) on his right lobe. Knee surgery was put on hold. Surgery for the tumor was successful with the surgeon being able to take out the whole lobe. In July, my father went for a follow-up Pet Scan. Hot spots have been discovered on the pet scan in three lymph nodes and lining of the lung. He has progressed from a Stage 1 to a Stage 111B within 6 months! 2 of 6 board of doctors at Sloan are questioning some of the hot spots. They feel it may be scar tissue from his surgery. We were told that scar tissue can sometimes come up as hot spots on the pet scan. They want to review his original cat scan (pre-surgery). We are awaiting their suggestion. Treatment is our concern. We were told that normally treatment would be chemotherapy and radiation. Unfortunately, radiation is not an option because his lungs are in such bad shape. They suggested chemotherapy - combination of Taxol and carboplatin. I am sorry this is so long.
