    good news?

We had Jim's consult with the surgeon today and we were told that, in his opinion, the mass does not appear to have malignant characteristics. We were also told that it actually does not appear to be in Jim's lung after all, but is most likely behind the lung and nestled up to his spinal column (hard to tell I guess with the limitations of the CT image?) The recommendation is to remove the mass whether it be malignant or not and we scheduled surgery for next Friday. The mass will be biopsied at that time so my worry and waiting continues, but with renewed hope that we may not be facing cancer (went out for celebratory dinner tonight for that one bit of hopeful news!) I now have new concerns about them cutting open his chest and removing the tumor from a sensitive area, but the surgeon has come highly recommended so I am trying to relax. I can't remember who posted earlier to tell me to remember "nothing bad is happening RIGHT NOW" Thank you so much . . . I use that every day. Chris

  3. Thanks for all the advice and prayers! Next Dr. appt today. I'm feeling pretty strong thanks to all the great support I'm getting here in my world and online with you. Thank you so much. Chris
  4. My husband's consult is tomorrow to schedule the biopsy of the mass in his lung. I have managed to get some control of the racing "disaster fantasies" that plagued me in the first couple of days after discovering the mass, but I do have questions rattling around that I wonder if any of you can help with. Here goes: Is it likely that the CT of the lungs that confirmed the 3 cm mass would have shown us if there were more, smaller spots in the lungs? I'm wondering if, since the radiologist didn't mention anything else in the report if it is safe to assume that there is only the one mass? Does anyone know how long I might expect it to take to get the results of the biopsy? We don't have copies of any of the reports so far. Should we be asking for those for our own records and should the docs willingly give them? Seems like we have been the last ones with information so far . . . frustrates me and I want someone to give us ALL the information, not just an abbreviated view. I'm having trouble with trust because of our experience with my husband's mom. She went to the doctor last July and they failed to diagnose her properly. Her cancer metastasized and she died on March 2nd. This is not a good mental framework with which to enter our current situation. Thanks for your thoughts. Chris
  5. Thanks, everyone, for your encouraging words, your hopes and your prayers. I feel really welcome here and think that I have come to a place of positive thinking and strength. Chris
  6. Thanks, Muriel. I will check out the survivors board . . . that's the kind of postive info I need. Where do you think I would find information about what else this mass might be besides cancer? Chris
  7. Hi everyone. We were told this week that my husband (age 37, never smoker) has a 3 cm mass in his lung, confirmed by CT. We are now in a waiting period until we can get a biopsy done and find out what we are looking at. My husband's mother passed away just one month ago from lung cancer. I am looking for any support and shared knowledge I can find. Right now my life is upside down, but just finding this site is giving me something to do to stop my crying and panic attacks. Thanks and I have taken great comfort already in the many success stories. We have been married for 15 years, have 4 beautiful kids, and I need to know we're going to be OK! Chris
