  1. I just want to let you all know that the interview went great. They didn't say for sure that I have the job. They have a couple more aplicants to interview. I was told that my refernces were fantastic and I could tell that they like me. They said they are always willing to work with their people so time off for the wedding would be no big deal. It is doable. I really feel good about this just hope that I am not setting myself up for a big let down.

    The hotel is really a bed and breakfast and so old and charming. Being a history buff I had to see everything. I can just imagine myself going there everyday. It is so wonderful that I doubt it would feel like work at all.

    Any way I am at least half way there and should know for sure in the next two days. So I ask for your continued prayers and support. By the way anyone of you that is every looking for a neat secluded place to spend a few days and really feel close to God and nature this is the perfect place to do it. You would love the charm and wildness here.

  2. This book really enforces so many of my beliefs, especially those about love being the most important thing in life and that giving of ourselves and time mean the most. These are lessons that are so needed in todays society.

    I have little problem understanding and believing the things written here. My problem comes with accepting. It is hard for me to accept that the pain and adversity in my life have been for my own bennifit. Then there is the major problem that I have. It is forgiveness.

    It is easy in many ways to forgive the people who have hurt me in my life. There were just so many that caused either physical or emotional pain to Johnny some even caused both. I caused him my share of emtional pain even if I did not intend to. I felt and lived with most of his pain. I know that it was those things that not only helped cost him his life but made it so hard the last two months. That not only caused me the most pain that I have ever known but is responisible for the greatest loss I have ever had to endure. I just can't forgive that no matter how hard I try. :x

    My question is does anyone else have these hang ups or others? Just feel sometimes like I am so different than other people. Johnny always found a way to forgive but I guess I am just not as big a person as he was. :(

  3. I have been reading all of the input about the walks that you propose. I am in no position to help start one but I do have an idea.

    How about having three of four different t shirts that the walkers could wear and maybe some extra that the public could buy at the walks. Put things on each one that informs. Just a thought with a couple of ideas:

    One that shows a tombstone but instead of date of birth and death have the words "he heard that only smokers died of lung cancer"

    One that says "lung cancer survivor it can be done"

    One that says "I have lung cancer but it doesn't have me"

    There are just so many ways that you could go with this idea. It would make the walkers feel like they were really getting the message out and any extra money could go to one of the Lung Cancer organizations.

  4. Sending lots of prayers for you Tbone. I will say that you are already very blessed to have such a large caring family who are willing to share each step with you. Too bad it can't be that way for everyone. God Bless and hang in there. You have so many in your corner how could you miss.

  5. Okay Becky you do know what ADDICTED means don't you? I got up to four at a time now if they would just sit still for a second I might get five :x I think I have swatted more than there are in the whole state of California. Come to think of it tho they don't really seem like flys. The grow and multiply just like those little blood suckers that are the state bird of Louisiana. If you don't know what that is ask Tbone I bet he can tell you :P

  6. I hope the scan shows that it is just a fracture(wow welcoming a fracture). Hopefully you will be posting in the good news forum and your husband will have a chance to recover from the treatment. God Bless I will be praying for you. Lillian

  7. You are a very couragous lady Gay. I admire you so much for standing beside Dean in his decision. He is very dear to all of us here and so are you. I do want to say that he is very lucky to have you. May you both still have many days of sunshine and I don't mean just the weather. :)

  8. I just sent this email to the Oprah show. Had to make it fit the space provided. It may not do any good but I figured it is worth a try.

    Facts:

    1. Lung cancer is not just a smokers disease

    2. It is not an automatic death sentence there are many long term survives

    3 It is not contagious

    4. It is the largest cancer killer in the world

    5. Research into causes and treatments is drastically underfunded

    6. People with lung cancer did not ask for it any more than someone asks to have a heart attack or colon or breast cancer. It is something that happens to them.

    7. We desperately need someone to pay attention and speak up for these people

    The number of young women in their thirties and forties who have never smoked or been constantly around cigarette smoke is growing every day. To learn the real story about this terrible monster that is among us please go to the web site of Lung Cancer Survivors for Change http://www.buy2k.net/lungcancersurvivors/forum/phpBB2/ I promise it will be a very enlightening experience.

    Any killer is a threat to all of us. Death doesn't have to come in the form of a bomb or poisonous gas. It can come from many places. Please don't allow it to continue to come from indifference

  9. I am so very sorry that you are getting so much bad news. Like they say when it rains it pours. Just remember most of the time bad news comes in 3s so maybe now it is time for you to get some good news.

    As for all of the cancer I think of the pharse "something is rotten in Denmark" :x

  10. That is great news Dean. I can tell you are feeling better already. Wear those wheels out you have my permission! Hope for blue skies and good feelings ahead for you and Gay. By the way tell Gay we miss seeing her post lately too. Have fun just don't break any speed limits. Wouldn't want to see you arrested and put IN jail. That would mean INSIDE again. No Way! :P:D

  11. Christy I am so sorry for all of the problems in your life right now. Please understand that you are not being selfish. You are doing exactly what you are supposed to be doing right now. Take care of yourself and your man. Everyone here has so much support. We do miss you but would not expect you to trade time with him for this board. Give him all of the love that you have and help keep his spirits up. That is your job right now. Your main job.

    Please do feel free to come here when you need support. We will be here and ready to give it any time you ask. Hope he continues to feel well and the scan gives him more reason to be optomistic. I will say a prayer that all goes well.

    I know how terrible the fire must have been but your loved ones are safe and alive. Thank God for that. Things can be replaced tho I know the puppies was a terrible loss emotionally.

    God Bless you and all your family. I'll look for your post in the Good News forum on March 11th. Lillian

  12. A Bible Teacher asked her class to write notes "to God".

    Here are some they handed in:

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear God:
    I didn't think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset You made on Tuesday. That was cool.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Dear God:

    Instead of letting people die and having to make new ones, why don't You keep the ones You already have?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear God:
    Maybe Cain and Abel would not have killed each other if they had their own rooms. That's what my Mom did for me and my brother.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Dear God:

    If You watch me in church on Sunday, I'll show You my new shoes.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear God:
    I bet it is very hard to love everyone in the whole world. There are only 4 people in our family and I'm having a hard time loving all of them.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Dear God:

    In school they told us what You do. Who does it when You are on vacation?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear God:
    Are You really invisible or is it just a trick?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Dear God:

    Is it true my father won't get into heaven if he uses his bowling words in the house?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear God:
    Did You mean for the giraffe to look like that or was it an accident?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Dear God:

    Who draws the lines around the countries?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear God:
    I went to this wedding and they kissed right in the church. Is that OK?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Dear God:

    Did You really mean "do unto others as they do unto you"? Because if You did, then I'm going to get my brother good.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear God:
    Thank You for the baby brother, but I think you got confused because what I prayed for was a puppy.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Dear God:

    Please send me a pony. I never asked for anything before. You can look it up.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear God:
    I want to be just like my Daddy when I get big, but not with so much hair all over.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Dear God:

    You don't have to worry about me; I always look both ways.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear God:
    I think about You sometimes, even when I'm not praying.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Dear God:

    Of all the people who worked for You, I like Noah and David the best.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear God:
    My brother told me about being born but it doesn't sound right. They're just kidding, aren't they?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Dear God:

    I would like to live 900 years just like the guy in the Bible.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear God:
    We read Thomas Edison made light. But in Sunday school they said You did it. So, I bet he stole Your idea
  13. And to think people were actually paid to come up with these. Any one know who to contact to get a job with one of them? If I don't qualify maybe my dog will. Of coarse she may be too smart.
    No matter how many times I read these they still make me laugh...lol
    In case you needed further proof that the human race is doomed through
    "stupidity", here are some actual label instructions on consumer goods.
    On a Sears hairdryer -- Do not use while sleeping. (Damn, and that's the only
    time I have to work on my hair.)
    On a bag of Fritos -- You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details
    inside. (the shoplifter special)?
    On a bar of Dial soap -- "Directions: Use like regular soap." (and that would
    be how???....)
    On some Swanson frozen dinners -- "Serving suggestion: Defrost." (but, it's
    "just" a suggestion).
    On Tesco's Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom) -- "Do not turn upside down."
    (well...duh, a bit late, huh)!
    On Marks &Spencer Bread Pudding -- "Product will be hot after heating."
    (...and you thought????...)
    On packaging for a Rowenta iron -- "Do not iron clothes on body." (but
    wouldn't this save me more time)?
    On Boot's Children Cough Medicine -- "Do not drive a car or operate machinery
    after taking this medication." (We could do a lot to reduce the rate of
    construction accidents if we could just get those 5-year-olds with head-colds
    off those forklifts.)
    On Nytol Sleep Aid -- "Warning: May cause drowsiness." (and...I'm taking this
    because???....)
    On most brands of Christmas lights -- "For indoor or outdoor use only." (as
    opposed to...what)?
    On a Japanese food processor -- "Not to be used for the other use." (now,
    somebody out there, help me on this. I'm a bit curious.)
    On Sainsbury's peanuts -- "Warning: contains nuts." (talk about a news flash)
    On an American Airlines packet of nuts -- "Instructions: Open packet, eat
    nuts." (Step 3: maybe, uh...fly Delta?)
    On a child's Superman costume -- "Wearing of this garment does not enable you
    to fly." (I don't blame the company. I blame the parents for this one.)
    On a Swedish chainsaw -- "Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands or
    genitals." (Oh my God...was there a lot of this happening somewhere?)
  14. Boy Tbone you are so right but if you take it just a few years further you will so that there is so much more that the majority of the population don't remember or know about. What about
    Games that were played outside instead of in your hand on a screen. (things like tag, hide and seek and cowboys and Indians)
    the biggest worry about going to school was being accepted on a team or as a cheerleader (Not who might have a gun in class)
    They may not have gone to one but most people born before the 80's at least knew that drive-in-movies existed
    coffee cost 25 cents and was served hot
    you could get a burger for a quarter
    school clothes didn't cost more than home appliances
    no one told you that it was against the law to say God at school or other public places
    you could go to a movie and have snacks for well under $5
    you didn't have to see the name on a car to know who made it
    finding something actually made in America did not take a full scale investigation
    families acturally took their meals together all or most of the time
    we were told to be careful and not let someone slip something in you drink because it might be a drug (very few actually went out looking for illegal drugs)
    if your child misbehaved you could punish or spank them without the threat of jail
    it was almost unheard of for a child to interrupt an adult conversation
    tennis shoes were made of cloth and cost less than $10
    a car cost less than a home not more
    you went to a National Park to get away from the crowds not join them
    I could go on and on but my age is obvious enough without adding other things like skates with keys and 5cent cokes in glass bottles or water that didn't come in a bottle. Need I say more? Anyone else got any thing to add for the pre 80s kids?
  15. Oh yes my granddaughter is 21. I have 2 grandkids that will be 18 this year. I also have 2 13 year olds, 1 that is 12 and one 7 the baby is not quite 3. I just turned 60 a couple of weeks ago.
    When Johnny was alive I was so happy that I didn't look my age. Not so before or sense then.
  16. I just want to thank everyone for your prayers and support. I think I have a pretty good chance at this job. With all of you wonderful loving people behind me how could I miss?
    My one concern is that they work with me for the time I need for my granddaughters wedding. If not well I guess I will just have to wait and see. I know that if it is meant to be it will. Again thanks to all of you. Lillian
  17. I want to thank all of you for your kind responses. I would be very honored to have my letter used anywhere or anytime that it might be of use. Please feel free to do so. I feel that I have to have a purpose to my life that will somehow bring some good from Johnny's death. I can't stand to think of his death leaving nothing but grief and sorrow behind. I feel that not only do I have a purpose but a duty to do anything that I can to help.
  18. Pam all that you can do for your mom is be there for her when she needs you. You can not take the hurt or the lonliness away. Those are part of grief and so natural. When we lose someone who was the major part of our hopes and dreams nothing can take their place. You mom just needs time to adjust to being alone. In time she will find a way to get on with her life the best that she can.
    Again I say just be there for her let her talk about him all that she wants to. There is nothing harder than to have all of the memories and the love inside of you and no one to talk to about it. Let her talk and you talk to her about him. Just because he died does not mean that he is no longer a part of her life. She loved him for a very long time. That love will always be with her. She just has to find a way to live with the love in a far different way. Right now sharing his memory with you is the best way that she can live.
  19. Isn't it strange how we all seem to find the same thing when it is needed? Two weeks ago my landlord gave me this book. It is truly one of the best books I have ever read to get me thinking about life. I highly recomend it to everyone.
    I have no one to read it with but it gives me a good way to start each day. I usually read my chapter while drinking my second cup of coffee. Later when I take my dog for her walk I can look at the mountains that suround me and I see God everywhere. It is such a good time and beautiful place to contemplate the words in that book.
    I still have much of it to read but what I have read so far inforces my belief that how we treat others and the love we show to them is more important than anything we will ever own. When we leave this Earth we take the same thing that we came with. That is love. We are born with the love of God and born into a world where we can experience love. When we die we take our love with us and God's love too.
    When I question why I am here and what my purpose is I know that whatever I do with my life love will be the one thing that I will always take with me. This book is one that everyone should read. It not only gives comfort, it gives hope.
  20. Age
    I bought some of that "Gingkori" that’s supposed to improve your memory, but I forgot where I put it.
    You don’t know real embarrassment until your hip sets off a metal detector.
    You know you’re getting older when you bend over in the morning to tie your shoes and realize you didn’t take them off the night before.
    The biggest disadvantage of old age is that you can't outgrow it.
    The most frustrating thing about getting older is that every time you see an expensive antique, you remember one just like it you once threw away.
    She's getting crows feet around her eyes. And I'll tell you, that crow has big feet!
    Let's face it, traveling just isn't as much fun when all the historical sites are younger than you are.
    You know you're past your prime when every time you suck in your gut, your ankles swell.
    I don't like to do things now that I did 20 years ago–like look in the mirror.
    I'm middle-age, middle-class, and middle-of-the-road. I feel like that white stuff in the middle of an Oreo.
    Heck, I don't feel a day older than I did a hundred years ago.
    Sometimes I feel old enough to be my own father.
    I'm suffering from Mallzheimer's disease. I go to the mall and forget where I parked my car.
    You know you're past your prime when you start getting air-guitar elbow.
    Age always corresponds inversely to the size of your multi-vitamin.
    My neighbors have been married for 60 years. They look like identical twins. One of them wears a dress. I don't know which one.
