  1. This message board and all of the people who use it are a great source of information. Thank you Sandra, Joe, Linda and Rich! I have forwarded this on to my Mom. It's nice to have good/positive information to give her for a change. Once again... thank you! blueangel
  2. My mom started out with Adenocarcinoma with an unknown primary, stage 4. It took about three years and she found out that she had lung cancer (they are still unsure of where her primary tumor is though). Now almost four years later, the oncologist has further defined the type of lung cancer she has as Bronchoalveolar Lung Cancer. I have done some reading about this type of cancer but I would like to hear from individuals who have this type of cancer or know of someone who has this type of cancer. When she was first diagnosed (almost 4 years ago) with an unknown primary, stage 4, and a pericardial effusion, they gave her 3 months to live. Now they are telling her Bronchoalveolar Lung Cancer is probably the best type of lung cancer to have (if there is a best type to have!!). Mom is doing really well other than when the chemo had her feeling bad for awhile. Otherwise, she is upbeat and working all the time. Once again I would like to hear from individals who have Bronchoalveolar Lung Cancer or know someone who has Bronchoalveolar Lung Cancer. I would like to know how they are doing and what types of treatments they have had. Thanks!! blueangel
  3. Not much else has worked and we are hoping this will help even a little bit. Thank you for your response.
  4. Has anyone tried B12 for chronic fatigue related to chemo? My Mom's dr. gave her a B12 injection yesterday for chonic fatigue as she is receiving Taxotere once every three weeks. I just wondered if anyone else has received B12 for chronic fatigue and how it helped. Thanks!
  5. My mom is receiving Taxotere every three weeks for lung cancer (adenocarcinoma, stage IV). I believe she has had 4 Taxotere treatments since the middle of June. With each treatment she has more side effects. The worst side effect is the fatigue. She is probably sleeping 18-20 hrs. a day. She felt wonderful everyday prior to finding out the cancer was back. She worked every day and was very, very active. Her doctor told her to take zinc. I don't believe it has really helped. Any suggestions?
  6. Thanks RandyW! I have already started looking at the different sites you recommended and there is a lot of information. Thank you!
  7. Thanks Judy for the quick reply. I am going to talk my mom into tryin acupuncture. The only problem will be finding one in Northern Michigan. I am sure there has to be a few around here somewhere. Thanks again!
  8. Does anyone have any experience with acupuncture and Chinese medicine? I am interested to find out if/how it has helped with lung cancer and side effects of chemo. My mom has been having a alot of nausea/vomiting with her chemo and I was wondering if this would help. I would make the appointments, take her to the appointments and pay for it if it will help her. Thanks!
  9. I am sorry.... There is more info that I should have stated. 1. I should have said that she did have a biopsy recently and it came back as cancer. 2. She also had a second opinion when she was originally diagnosed 3 years ago. Sorry. There is so much information that I forget to put all of it down. Thanks again!!!
  10. My mom was originally diagnosed with an unknown primary - stage 4 about 3 1/2 years ago. It all started when she had a pericardial effusion and they found cancerous cells in the fluid around the heart. They told her she has 3 months to live. They could not find the primary tumor but there was a very small spot (too small to measure) in her lung that shrunk after receiving chemo. She went into remission for 3 years. In June 2008 she had a x-ray that showed small nodules (I think all are under 5mm) in both lungs. The SUV (standard uptake unit) is 2.5. They told her at 4 they would consider it cancerous but with her history that she should have chemo (Taxotere). Mom is feeling great and has a great attitude. She is amazing. Thank you everyone for the informative posts!
  11. My mom was told by her oncologist about 1 1/2 months ago that they found nodules in both lungs and they are too small to consider cancerous however she has started again with chemo (Taxotere). They are not officially calling it cancer. They are calling them nodules instead. Has anyone else ever been told this?
  12. This message board is so helpful! I really appreciate everyone's responses to my question. Thank you again!
  13. My mom was diagnosed 3 years ago with adenocarcinoma - unknown primary - stage 4. She took chemo and went into remission approx. 4 months later. It has been 3 years and with a 6 month checkup she found out that she has adenocarcinoma - lung cancer - stage 4. Her oncologist recommended Taxol. If that doesn't work she will try Taxotere. The oncologist does not recommend using the same chemo that worked the first time (Gemzar and Carboplatin). Is this normal to not use the same chemo that worked before? I have also read that when someone receives Taxol they also get Carboplatin and they receive it one time a week for 3 weeks and then they have a week off. My mom will only be receiving the Taxol one time every 3 weeks. Is this normal? I hope someone can explain this to me.
